… read more garden, and helping out wherever needed. Afternoons were free for personal time, and I especially enjoyed reading in their peaceful garden. They’ve just built a swimming pool too, which was an absolute dream in the summer heat!
Meals were a highlight—prepared lovingly by Mariam (with help from everyone), and shared together at the table. Mariam is the best cook I've ever met. Evenings were filled with laughter, conversation, games, and the occasional glass of fantastic wine!
They also took us into town, where we explored the market and did a bit of shopping, adding a lovely local touch to the experience.
This stay far exceeded my expectations—I’m so grateful for the memories and deeply touched by everything I have experienced here. I’ll carry this beautiful summer chapter with me for a long time.

Very capable in all aspects and very keen on helping, Michel would be a great help in anything from computer type requirements to fixing things, solving problems, looking after animals, house restoration etc etc.

We had such an amazing stay with Mariam and Johnno at their chateau. We helped in the orchard, pulling weeds and feeding the chickens. We ate some great food cooked by Mariam, and met neighbours and friends who welcomed us with open arms. We were well looked after, had some great chats, and explored the local area. Conor and Scarlett were fun and a pleasure to have staying with us. They did various gardening jobs, feeding the chickens and help cleaning and organising the holiday cottage amongst other jobs. They were easy going and fitted right in with our lives and routines. A good experience.

My girlfriend Ronja and I stayed with Mariam and Jono for a week. We had a great time! The chateau itself is beautiful, it’s an old building that they’ve renovated completely, so you will have a very comfortable stay. We had our own room which was quite large, along with our own bathroom. On the property there’s a big garden, an orchard, several fields and some forest. Lots of nature around!
The work was very manageable. In general, you work 3 to 4 hours between breakfast and lunch, and anything more than that is completely optional. We got our tasks from either Mariam, Jono or Monty and the tasks were always explained very clearly. We did a variety of tasks, including creating some electric fences for the sheep, cleaning the chicken coop, watering plants/trees, and baling and unloading hay.
On our free days, Mariam took us to Saintes and Rochefort to do some sightseeing. We also went to the beach with Monty. Plenty of things to do in the area, you won’t be bored!
Thanks so much for having us, I’d love to come and work on the farm again sometime :)

I am long overdue for writing this review, but better later than never I suppose.
I spent over a month in spring 2021 at Mariams´and Jonos´place and I passed a beautiful moment there! Mariam and Jono are very welcoming people and so I felt comfortable from the first day. Since they traveled a lot and made all kinds of experiences, they have a lot
… read more to share and dinners were always spent discussing all kinds of topics, which was really fun:)
We had a set routine for work, 3-4 hours in the morning, which was helpful to give the day structure. The tasks were picked according to ones needs and always very well explained and versatile.
On the afternoons - which were free - there was time to cycle in the beautiful rural surroundings or play music in the music room… In our free time Mariam and Jono went out of their way to let us experience everything the region had to offer: Going to art galleries, city trips to Saintes and Rochefort or surfing at the beach of Ile d´Oléron. Evenings were spent cooking and talking together and I often got frei reign of the kitchen and cooked my recipes for everyone. A personal favorite moment was celebrating easter together with their French neighbors and hosting a dinner party with them!
There would be so much more to say about Mariam, Jono and Monty, the chateau, the food, the experiences; but I’ll leave it at that for now. It’s a wonderful place and wonderful people. Thank you for this experience!

We really enjoyed having Ronan to stay for two weeks. He tried his hand at any job we had, even if he had not done it before. He was good company too. All in all, a good experience

… read more allowed me to work flexibly in the morning or afternoon and the work doesn't really feel like work because it's necessary for maintaining your life here.
I learned a tonne of new things like minding chickens, picking fruit and what can be made of it. Also working with my hands and working together to come up with solutions for keeping the ducks safe at night. If you are open to learning, they are more than happy to teach you useful and unique skills.
This was more than just volunteering, I felt part of the family and helping wasn't seen as a chore but as being part of something bigger and wishing for it to succeed.

Pierre is a very easy going person, and we had fun having him here. We dont' normally take pets, but as he came together with two friends, they said the dog was well behaved. I have to say that I have never met such a lovely dog before, and he is the best behaved dog you can imagine. He wandered around free, and never chased our cats or chickens.
… read more If you have any doubts about having Pierre to stay because of his dog, then rest assured that Silas is a gorgeous dog, who is quiet, doesn't bark, is very friendly and extremely well behaved. We will be very sorry to see him go.

We had the great honor of being the first worker in this little wonderful place in France!
We spent almost two months with Mariam, Jono and Monty and it felt like we were part of the family after a short time.
The accommodation in the small "Chatteau" was excellent!
We were allowed to live in a separate part of the Chatteau, with its own

The food ... (hard to put into words) was amazingly good! We were well looked after the whole time and could taste many French or regional dishes and drinks. (Oysters, clams, snails, melons, many cheeses, tartes, daily fresh pastries, rosé / grapefruit, many varieties of wine and much more!)
In addition, every week we went to a local farmer's market to buy fresh fruit and vegetables.
The chateau is a bit out of the way, but with the bike everything is easy to reach. If you need Wi-Fi, you can get it in Rocheford (40 minutes by bike). But Mariam or Jono were always open to take us anywhere we wanted.
Right next to the chateau is a small stream in which we have even successfully fished!
We had plenty of free time for day trips and could explore a lot (La, Rochelle, Saintes, Cognag and the two islands Île de Ré and Île de Olèron), where there is much to see!
We've done a lot of different jobs, from gardening to renovation, metalworking, furniture restoration, cooking and more.
Mariam, Jono and Monty are very open-minded people who tell so many interesting stories! We laughed a lot together, exchanged experiences, lived and enjoyed the beautiful life together.
