Descrição
We live on a beautiful property on Vancouver Island on the West Coast of Canada, just a short walk to a glacier fed lake and an 8 minute drive to the ocean. The home is located near an old coal mining community that was established in the 1890's. My parents bought the land in 1980 and our family has been living here since.
We are nestled in the trees nearby the community of Cumberland with mountain bike, walking or running trails surrounding us.
I have twin 10 year old daughters and a 5 year old aussie shepherd and a cat. The twins spend half their time with me, and the other half with their other co-parent.
Our lifestyle includes skiing on the local ski hill during the winter, swimming every day in the summer and hiking the trails all year long. We are near Strathcona Park which has endless alpine to roam and explore and we do camping trips in there every year.
We love to eat good food and grow our own veggies in the summer. I'm working to bring back the veggie garden. -

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
We enjoy family meals together and cozy movie nights on the couch. I work in healthcare and am happy to talk about just about anything. I have a passion for maternal/child health, addictions medicine, end of life care and social justice. I love to learn about other peoples passions especially as they relate to the human experience.
The local town(walking distance) has lots of live music, art shows, seasonal festivals and environmental activism.
Our home is very peaceful and the forest here is medicine for the soul. My favourite thing is not seeing another human and just being out there with the trees and ravens.
My children are learning spanish and french and have mexican ancestry, we travel a lot and love to learn about people from around the world. -
Ajuda
I'm looking for help with caring for the pets both while I'm home and when I go away for work 1 week per month. Our dog is high energy and I get her out into the forest for 1-2 hours a day. Our cat is pretty low maintenance but very social and loves pets. Knowledge of wood stoves and firewood is an asset as that is the primary way we heat the big house. The tiny house is heated with electric.
I'm also looking for support with the landscaping and gardening. In the summer, watering is a big daily task.
I always have a few projects going on around the house and am happy to share my knowledge of carpentry, woodworking, cedar shake siding, roofing or whatever else I'm getting up to. -

Acomodação
Next to the big house is a small house with it's own bathroom and simple kitchen. It's a loft bedroom with a low ceiling up top and a queen sized bed. The lower floor has an open layout with a couch and coffee table. There is excellent WiFi and one could work from home there as it is very quiet. There are curtains for privacy on all the windows.
The space is west coast design with wood features and beautiful natural light. There is a small bathtub with hot water on demand. The doors open to the yard and gardens, daily there are deer and other wildlife in the yard. Right now is apple season and the bears visit daily to gorge on the fruits to get ready for winter(only at night, it's very safe).
You can store some food in the tiny house fridge but the main food will be in the big house. We will have family meals together for breakfast and dinner and lunches are DIY with whatever you feel like eating. I eat gluten free as I have celiac disease but the children eat normal bread and it is fine to have wheat in the house as long as the crumbs are cleaned up. -
Algo mais...
The big house is an alcohol free zone, workaways don't need to be sober but a heavy drinker would not be a good fit.
There is no smoking or vaping indoors but if one were a light user, that would be ok as long as they didn't leave butts around. -

While I'm away, the pet care is pretty simple: taking the dog out a few times a day for exercise/bathroom breaks. Keeping the pets company. It would be easy to do while maintaining full time work.

Espaço para estacionar campervans
I have a flat long driveway next to the main driveway that could support a camping rig up to 25 feet or possibly longer. We could run an extension cord out and water if needed.

Pode aceitar animais
A friendly and quiet dog would be fine, or a cat.

Lou (1 ano)
Lou cat really just does his own thing. He loves cuddles but he's often out roaming the neighbourhood eating all the other cats food and getting snuggles. We try and tempt him in with food but we've learned to let him come to us.
