… read more various activities such as caring for lambs and sheep, vaccinating them, gathering them from the fields, assisting Rosie and Tanner with the pony and chickens, and exploring the surroundings: playing games and observing bowls on Tuesday evenings. Additionally, I enjoyed delicious meals prepared by Lisa, experienced the local school environment as I am a teacher, went swimming at friends' pools, and much more. They are also great at jokes and playing cards, so if you have any, that would be a bonus!

Celine, or CC as we fondly referred to her, came to stay with us and from the time she arrived we knew we had met a goodie! CC stayed with us for 3 weeks and then also came back to visit after some travelling around.
The minute she arrived she was thrown in the deep end with lambing! Lambs coming out of our ears, yet CC took it all in stride. She
… read more was a fast learner, eager to get into it and could be trusted to get on with the job but we could also trust that she would ask if she had questions.
Her role on farm included: feeding lambs, lambing the ewes, tailing (and lots of it!), shifting break fences, helping in the sheep yards and also in the wool shed. She jumped into every opportunity, giving it everything she had.
She was an asset to have at home too, helping out where she could and always offered to help with what was going on.
Our two children just loved her and we miss her terribly.
She was respectful both in the house and on the farm, and of anything we asked of her.
We just wish that Switzerland wasn't so far away!

i loved staying at the limehurst farm and being part of the family for three weeks during lambing season. it is such a lovely family and bart and lisa are just wonderful. they made me feel at home all the time. i loved to work on the farm with bart and lisa. also rosie and tanner always looked after me and included me as a part of the family and
… read more showed me the area and took me on adventures. which was a lot of fun.
bart and lisa taught me a lot about sheep farming and i got to do so many different tasks and experience so many different things - like taking care of the lambs, herding sheep, help during shearing, tailing, vaccinating, lambing a ewes, fencing, checking the lambs and ewes on the paddocks... i was always well introduced to the tasks and if i had a question they were always there to support. and always stayed calm and were understanding, if i made a mistake - like sheep running on the wrong paddock because i wasn t fast enough... so i always felt confortable to take over new tasks.

Gen came to stay with us after some of our previous Workawayers recommended him to us. He came to us after a previous stay on another farm. Gen usually works indoors in his 'normal' life, so was eager everyday to get outdoors! He never complained, no matter how cold it was! Gen assisted with many jobs on the farm and was an asset during his stay!
… read more He helped with fencing, feeding out to the calves on the quad, helping with yard work when we were scanning the ewes, helped with picking up branches from hedge trimming and also some wood splitting. He was a pleasure to have in the house, respectful of our rules and engaged well with our children. We would recommend him to others looking for some help.

Bart, Lisa, and the kids were very welcoming and friendly. Their farm/home is located in a beautiful location and you get to wake up to a view of the mountains and hills everyday! Bart is patient and a great teacher and Lisa makes sure you're well-fed and comfy. I had a great two weeks with them!

… read more happily attempted and completed every task we ask of them. We loved playing cards/games with them at night time to wind down after a day on the farm. They even cooked for us one evening too, which we paired with a nice German beer! Whilst here on the farm, they worked in the shearing shed, shed handing and rousing, gardened, learned some fencing techniques, shifted some sheep on the ATV, worked in the sheep yard, helped with propagating some plants, washed windows - anything we asked of them! We had a wonderful time staying with Lisa, Bart, Tanner and Rosie for 3 weeks. They took care to make our first Workaway experience very special. Right from the start they integrated us in their family life and made us feel at home.
During our stay we helped with different tasks on the farm, in the garden and in the house. For a couple of days we
… read more worked in the shearing shed and Bart showed us how to shift, draft and trench sheep. Other jobs were weeding the vegetable garden, cleaning the windows, and making firewood. It's been really interesting to learn about the everyday farm life.
Lisa is a fantastic cook! She provided various and delicious meals all the time. We loved the homemade sourdough bread!
We very much enjoyed the evenings playing games and having a beer or two. The kids are very sweet and we loved spending time with them.
Overall it was an amazing experience and we recommend everybody to stay with Lisa and Bart.

If you are looking for a hands-on, authentic farm experience working with sheep and lambs on a beautiful property with a great family, this is it! Lisa and Bart are a very generous and down to earth couple who welcomed us into their home like we were long time friends. Their property is beautiful, overlooking the farm and mountains. … read more for two weeks in February which turned out to be great timing to see a lot of the sheep farming process and our tasks varied everyday. It’s a big farm with over 2,000 sheep and lambs, run essentially by Bart alone (with help from his family). We loved working with Bart; he was very patient with all our questions and got us involved in many tasks working with the lambs and sheep. We got to help with shearing, drenching, drafting and weighing the lambs. He trusted us to take care of feeding out the bails to the sheep in the fields with the truck and ATV. We also did independent tasks such as gardening, weeding, pruning trees and cleaning windows one rainy morning. We lived with the family in their home and always felt part of the family. Evenings were filled with laughs with Lisa and Bart playing cards and relaxing with a few drinks. We also liked playing with the kids and our family Finska games at sunset! Lisa is a great cook and prepared delicious meals. They also encouraged us to explore the area and invited us to tag along to a local horse races festival on the weekend which was great. This was our second Work Away experience and it was a definite highlight of our travels so far. Thank you Lisa and Bart! Mel and Robyn came to volunteer on our sheep and beef farm for 2 weeks. From the moment they arrived, it felt comfortable and they were incredibly easy people to have around! They settled in quickly, were ready to turn their hand to any task both on the farm and also around the house! One of their goals was to be on farm and get as much experience
… read more as possible doing so.Well that was easy: they helped in the shearing shed, they fed out to the sheep, helped daily with the chickens, learnt fencing and fence maintainence, helped in the sheep yards and anything else we could throw at them. Socially we love spending time with them, playing cards and other games, enjoying a glass or 2 of wine and they happily spent time with our children.

… read more lambs and some work around the house. Both Bart and Lisa are great to work with. They take excellent care of their animals and are always willing to explain the how & why of the jobs we were asked to do. We appreciated them giving us responsibility to complete tasks on our own.
Also, they were flexible with the workhours, for example: they'd let us accumulate hours throughout the week, so we could take an extra day off.
As a bonus their two kids Tanner and Rosie are absolutely lovely, funny and bright, we very much enjoyed being around them.
In short: thank you very very much for a great month at your place and for all future Workawayers: we highly recommend staying here!
