We spent the month of February at Emma’s place. She had planned a long list of outdoor tasks for us, but unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side. Nevertheless, we managed to clean a large part of the garden, the flower beds, and the courtyard, as well as remove dead leaves. We weeded, cut back dead vegetation, turned the soil, and added

Emma had to be away for several days, so we were in charge of taking care of Ruff and Truffle for a week. Ruff is an old dog with a strong personality but very sweet, and Truffle is an adorable little dog who loves human contact.
On rainy days, we cleaned the greenhouse, prepared the planters for spring, and also repainted some wooden beams. We also completely reorganized both workshops and sorted all the tools. Emma entrusted us with the mission of repainting the entrance hall, which required some preparation beforehand. We put our skills to good use by filling cracks and plastering the walls. After sanding, we painted the ceiling and walls in the entrance, living room, and kitchen.
We are very happy to have met Emma; she is a wonderful, caring person who loves to show her guests around. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home—exchange, sharing, and conviviality were all part of the experience. Thanks to Emma, we saw real progress in our English skills. With her as a host, you can be sure of an unforgettable stay.
We truly loved Dungarvan—whether for the hikes, the landscapes, the sea, or the mountains... Thank you for everything, and thank you for this beautiful encounter!

They have come to Ireland determined to improve their English so that they might travel with it in the future across the world. All credit goes to them as they improved dramatically over the course of the month and I have no doubts that by the time they leave Ireland in a few months time they will have a very good conversational grasp of the language. Swein studies daily, Shaan understands nearly everything but just needs to grow in confidence. However both managed to have in depth conversations and beat me at Scrabble (!), so they underestimate their ability and improvement.
They were a pleasure to host. They are funny, kind and extremely good company. They treated my house and animals with the utmost respect. Their work is outstanding and they go above and beyond ! I firmly believe that Workaway is a 2 way process about giving and taking, respecting one another and ensuring the very best for both sides - host and Workawayer. Normally, I feel like I have given everything to ensure that my Workawayers have the best experience they can staying here. This time I slightly felt like the balance was not quite equal as Swein and Shaan gave far more than they received! For that I feel guilty. I cannot thank them enough for the amazing work they did and the difference they made in the space of a month. I am forever grateful to them both. I utilised their talents and the results are outstanding....from DIY , decorating, to gardening! In addition Shaan is an excellent cook, and Swein sorted and rearranged the workshop and tools into an extremely well organised domain!
Thank you for being simply superb! Enjoy all that lies ahead in your travels. And finally a message to any future hosts ... They are the best of the best Workawayers!!!

Robyn and I were just about to book travel home to the UK when we were contacted by Emma. Such a stroke of fortune.

Ruff and Truffle, the two furry friends, were great companions for our little Christmas break. The house is beautiful. The walks in the Comeragh and the along the coast were stunning. So many superlatives.

It was an absolute pleasure and complete peace of mind having Robyn and Joe in our home over Christmas. Although I didn't spend much time in their company due to being away, the little I did was so positive. They are a warm, intelligent, and resourceful couple with plenty to offer and a complete delight.
It was a pleasure to host Lilli and Leoni for just over a month. They met and became good friends whilst training to be Dieticians. Both girls are gentle, kind and extremely polite in nature. We had no hard work. We did some paintings, gardening work, baked a lot of cakes and did some household. We were very flexible on our work time and could decide when we’re doing our tasks.

Kathi and Milos are nothing short of SUPERB and were a delight to host. My expectations before arrival were high following advance stay correspondence and a short video call. It was clear that they were considerate, organised, and conscientious. This turned out to be just the “tip of the iceberg” as their multiple qualities, work ethos and
… read more personalities were quite simply OUTSTANDING. They were always positive, cheery and a delight to have about. Nothing was too much trouble even in bad weather, from the pruning of numerous Apple and Pear trees as well as blackcurrant bushes in a large orchard, to spreading gravel, weeding flower beds, stripping ivy from trees around the land, bringing in logs and preparing the greenhouse following the winter. Their hard work was highly evident, and was neat, tidy and they always checked if unsure of something. On departure the difference they’d made was incredible! In addition to this they cooked many delicious meals and kept the house and my dogs very well and happy when I wasn’t there. When I was, they were extremely good company and we had a lot of fun doing things and visiting places together.
Their departure has left a huge void, but our loss is a very positive gain for other hosts who might be lucky enough to have them to stay on their travels around Ireland over the coming months. We miss them greatly but will always hold them in a special place in our hearts and with the highest esteem. We hope that one day they might return to stay as friends for a holiday.
Truffle (my dog) in particular, adored them and is very upset that they’ve gone.
Have fun, Milos and Kathi, and enjoy your travels. Wishing you the very best of luck for the future.

There is so much to do in the garden that we never got bored of one type of work and when it was raining, we were in the green house - our working hours were flexible, adjusted to the weather and Emma’s job, but weekends were always free. Even though Emma’s life is incredibly busy at the moment, she would always drive us places near by - either to drop us there or to have a trip together. We really enjoyed our dinners with her, she is a fantastic cook and always had lots of good food at home. Emma introduced us to some of her friends too, who were all kind and really welcoming. If it would be possible, we would love to give her more than 5 stars, we couldn’t think about a better host.
We loved spending our time with you, Emma, seeing the amazing landscapes around your home, having talks, creating lovely memories or watching huge worms in the cinema together. Thank you so much for that amazing month at your place and everything you did for us!
Last but not least: Emma is accompanied by the most adorable two dogs.
Ruff, thank you for accepting us and sharing the backseat, it was an honour. We wish you good health and many more beach walks with Emma.
Truffle, you are the sweetest praline in the world. We miss so much cuddling with you on the sofa and running around. You gave us so much joy, even in your moodiest Brenda moments.
We’re hoping to see you all again!
