Descrição
We’re an English couple who recently moved to a farmhouse on the border of the Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne. It’s a lovely, peaceful place with plenty of charm—and also plenty of overgrowth! The property includes meadows, an orchard, a small woodland, an old pond, and a somewhat unruly formal garden.
We’re slowly working on restoring the house and land, and we’d love to share the experience with others. While there’s always something to do here, we also really value the exchange side —sharing meals, ideas, skills, stories, and time together.
This is a very quiet rural area. The nearest village is 2 km away and has a café and post office, but no shop. If you’re after nature, tranquillity, and a slower pace, you’ll enjoy it here. You’ll have your own double room with a simple open-plan ensuite in the main house. We provide all meals (including on your days off), and we usually eat together—though you’re welcome to cook for yourself if you prefer.
There’s a pool and BBQ to enjoy when the weather’s good, and we’re developing a veg patch, so if you like gardening or growing food, you’ll be in good company.
We’ve both travelled quite a lot and enjoy good food, local wine, and being outdoors. We share the house with our bouncy, affectionate dog, who’s always keen for a cuddle or a game of fetch. We've hosted Workawayers before and had a brilliant experience—they’ve become friends and even returned several times. It reminded us that this kind of exchange is as much about connection and conversation as it is about getting things done.
There’s a wide mix of things going on—from light gardening or pruning trees, to helping out with general upkeep or simple DIY. No specific skills are required—just a willingness to lend a hand and get stuck in.
We ask for around 5 hours a day of help, with two days off a week, but we’re flexible about how that’s structured. What matters most is a good attitude and a sense of humour!
If you're looking for a calm place to spend some time, meet people, and be part of a hands-on project, we’d be happy to hear from you.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

If you’re curious about rural life in France, this is a lovely place to get a feel for it. Life moves at a slower pace here, and there’s lots to explore and learn—whether it’s gardening, growing veg, preserving fruit, or getting creative with bits and bobs around the house.
You might pick up things like how to prune fruit trees, compost properly, or cook with whatever’s in season. We’re always happy to share what we’ve learned—and just as keen to learn from others.
The area itself is steeped in history—this part of France has old bastide towns, medieval villages, Roman ruins, and traces of the Hundred Years’ War. If you like history or just enjoy poking around old buildings and markets, there’s a lot to take in.
We speak English and Dutch at home but are both learning French, so if language exchange is your thing, that’s definitely possible too.Ajuda
We always have a mix of projects on the go, and we try to match them to people’s interests and skills—whether that’s hands-on outdoor help, gardening, or creative bits and pieces.
The land here is full of potential but takes a fair bit of care. We’re gradually taming the overgrowth, maintaining paths, pruning fruit trees, and making space for wildlife to thrive again. We’ve also got a small tractor for mowing, which is more fun than it sounds!
We’re in the early stages of setting up a new vegetable patch, which means experimenting with composting, installing water butts, and making use of a second-hand greenhouse we’ve rescued. If you enjoy gardening or are curious to learn, it’s a great place to get stuck in and share ideas.
Around the house, there’s always something to do—whether it’s weeding, planting, or helping to bring the old garden back to life. If you’ve got green fingers or just like being outdoors, we’d love your input.
We also have a few creative projects in the mix, like resizing old curtains or reupholstering furniture. If you sew, sketch, design, or make things, there’s always a way to contribute.
Day-to-day life is very relaxed, and everyone pitches in to keep things ticking over. If you like cooking, helping in the kitchen, or keeping shared spaces tidy, your help will be appreciated—and we love swapping recipes and learning from each other along the way.
In short, if you’ve got a skill—or simply a good attitude and some curiosity—there’s likely a place for it here.Idiomas
