Hi! We live along the beautiful Lindis River near Tarras in Central Otago, NZ. We travel to Wanaka each day via electric car for our work and are happy to take you along in case you are car-less. Our tiny home/house truck is off-grid, with plenty of solar power, we use composting toilets, we grow and eat organically and are keen for help with permaculture and building of all sorts.

There are 2 other tiny homes here, too. We have 2 horses, chickens, a dog, a goat and a cat as well as several tiny homes and a few caravans on the property.

Our land is nearly 20 acres, so there is loads of space. We are a lovely community in a lovely community. We are looking for experienced gardeners and builders only at this time who are happy to camp in our tent or teardrop caravan or who have your own van or camper for accommodation, with open hearts to share good conversation.

At the moment we are LOOKING EXCLUSIVELY FOR EXPERIENCED GARDENERS that have your own van or camper for accommodation, with open hearts to share good conversation. IF YOU KNOW PERMACULTURE, ELECTROCULTURE, AND/OR REGENERATIVE PRACTICES THIS IS A HUGE PLUS. Vegetable garden soil preparation, seed planting, weeding, putting in berms and swales and drip irrigation water lines, electric fencing the horse pasture, new plantings, landscaping around our pond, creating beautiful walking paths, cutting firewood, etc.!

There are many walks, rivers and lakes to explore, a night sky observatory within an hour, Omarama hot tubs same, Queenstown within an hour, Wanaka and Cromwell within 30 minutes, Tekapo within 2 hours, Mount Cook within 90 minutes or so...and more! Both of these delightful young men were very helpful. If you clearly set out the tasks and show an example of what needs to be done they will focus and accomplish it diligently. I suggest discussing upfront any items they plan to schedule for activities so that needed timing is clear for everybody.

The construction of the wooden porch was a nice change from gardening and related to our domain. You are lucky to have a river where you can relax, it was refreshing after a day of work.

Word can not describe the warmth of this place.
In my whole life I have never met people with such a pure heart who treat you with so much unconditional love! This wonderful place has truly become a home away from home for me!
I can highly recommend everyone who comes to New Zealand to visit this wonderful family. You will be able to learn and… read more discover so many things about the world, life and even yourself.
After spending a month here, I didn’t wanted nothing more than to be able to stay longer with these truly inspiring people!
Jen and Steve are absolutely wonderful and generous. The two of them have two great and very grown children who welcome you as warmly as their parents do. There are also a few other people living on the property and each one of them is very warmhearted and inspiring! You will be in the very best company!
Jen also takes you to yoga if you want and maybe you are even lucky enough to be able to experience a crystal ball session. A deeply spiritual experience.
But even apart from that, the surrounding in which you live, in the midst of unspoilt and mountainous nature, is simply breathtaking. Right next to the property there are great hikes and a river where you can swim in. Besides that there is almost every day the opportunity for a lift to Wanaka. I was even able to borrow their car to go to Cromwell serval times. This is amazing because both places are breathtakingly beautiful (the most beautiful places I have seen in New Zealand so far) and there is a lot to do there!

A few words about the work, food and accommodation as well:

While I stayed with the family I did many different kind of jobs. From gardening and cooking to driving a tractor. There is definitely something that will apply to you! Jen and Steve always tried to make my work fun and not too monotonous. Its was never too hard or to too much!
The food was absolutely fantastic and delicious! It was almost always organic, vegetarian or even vegan and always parts from it came out of the own garden. It was a very interesting experience for me to harvest food from the garden, process it myself in the kitchen and then eat this food. It’s amazing! The caravan I stayed in was very cozy and you had a great view of the stars at night. For what more could you wish for:)

So yeah, definitely go volunteer there! It was such a truly wonderful experience which I will never forget! It was definitely the most wonderful and inspiring experience in NZ I had! I got to know people who will have a place in my heart forever! Endless thanks for that! Lots of Love, Amelie
