    Hi!

I am Massimo, a mix of Italian, Irish, and British heritage. I have recently moved back to the countryside hills of the Monferrato area to begin a permaculture project with my family. Our focus is on sustainability and creating a positive impact on the local ecosystem. We are currently breathing life back into an acre of land that has been neglected for over fifteen years. The project is non profit, focused on preparing the land functionally and aesthetically for a food forest and vegetable garden. This involves a great deal of cleaning, tidying, and reorganizing. This is all part of a larger vision to create a community space featuring a workshop for local artists and even a mini bouldering hall.

While the days will be active, there are great opportunities to enjoy the property in the evenings, once we are done for the day. We have a swimming pool to cool off in and a barbecue area where it is possible to hang out and share meals. You will have a comfortable place to stay, in a lovely, separate building. Its current capacity is 6 beds (two singles, four doubles) split across three bedrooms. There is also plenty of camping space (with access to toilets) for larger group bookings or for the more outdoorsy types!

Meals will be primarily self-catered, with ingredients and groceries for 3 meals a day provided- just let me know of any dietary requirements. The option for shared meals is also available, upon prior discussion.

This is a great possibility for anyone who wants to help build a project from the ground up, in a beautiful setting. It is primarily known for its red wine production, prized truffles, and delicious traditional dishes. The local council also puts up flyers of all sorts of events nearby. The house is located under two hours away from both the mountains to the west and north as well as the coast to the south, meaning days trips to either are easy to organise. It is also a straightforward trip (45min drive) into Torino: a beautiful city with art galleries, museums, nightlife and more.

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado

I can offer a space for many outdoor activities such as slacklining, bocce, badminton, volleyball or climbing on my homewall. I like card games, boardgames and learning new things. There are also many books to grab and read by the pool or in the hammock.

Personally, I spend as much time as possible rock climbing; this entire region is incredible for it, whether you prefer bouldering or ropes. You’d be more than welcome to join me at the crag or for a homewall training session. Previously, I worked in a climbing gym in England for more than three years as an instructor, coach and routesetter. I'd be chuffed to take you to some of the local crags, no matter your skill level and previous climbing experience!

As I have stated, I am very new to permaculture, so if you are willing to share and teach, I'd love to learn about and apply what you might bring to the table.

What to expect in terms of help:
    - Roughly 4 hours a day of help (up to 5x a week), with the opportunity of flexible schedules.
    - Primarily manual tasks of varying intensities. Specific tasks may include plant trimming & chopping, path making, litter picking and lots of digging as well as lifting.
    - Some creative opportunities, such as light painting, making mosaics, signs and other small woodworking projects.

No prior experience is needed. There is so much to do, that I am happy to adapt your tasks to your skillset, experience and physical ability. Bonus points if you have 1) a driving license and 2) arrive by car, although neither are necessary.

I am also learning as I go, so each and every task will be a skillsharing opportunity and a fully democratic process. If you have knowledge and experience in other permacultural projects I would love to hear about them!

Artists are encouraged to bring or request materials they may want to use in the space. This is a space free from bigotry and intolerance. People of any ethnicity, culture, identity & orientation are welcome here.

    Acomodação

While there is plenty of space available for camping, the main accommodation space is a separate, private, fully functional large house. It has gas, electricity and potable running water. It is a clean, secure, warm and beautiful old house, but there might be occasional maintenance needed- never without prior notice.

There are three bathrooms and three bedrooms, with bedding provided. The total capacity of the house is four double beds and two single beds.
    - One bedroom has a double bed and futon (ideal for individuals or small family/group bookings).
    - The largest bedroom has two double beds and a single bed (ideal for larger families/groups) and ensuite toilet, with two reading corners and a balcony.
    - The third bedroom has a single bed. It is only usable in the warmer months.

The house has a living room, a dining room with a functional fireplace and additional lounge area. You'd even have a terrace to hang out in as well as a portico and courtyard that are directly part of the property. You're encouraged to explore the surrounding woods for walks. You would also be more than welcome to use the swimming pool & deck/dance floor, barbeque area with a large table and climbing wall in my family’s garden, upon request.

Most of your meals will be self-catered (I will provide the ingredients/ a stipend for groceries). I would be happy to arrange the occasional shared meal or restaurant outing to celebrate your arrival and departure for example, or any other special occasion! There are plenty of local shops for groceries and toiletries, some even within walking distance. There are many weekly markets with all sorts of groceries, clothing and other items to purchase in several nearby towns. There are also more conventional supermarkets a short (10 minute drive, 25 minute cycle) journey away. There are two bars that are walking distance, and the local town has most amenities that you might need (such as a post office, ATM, etc.)

I will provide the ingredients for 3 meals a day, or a stipend. Occasionally I will be able to arrange shared meals upon discussion with the guests.

There are many other activities nearby. I could not list them all, but if you share some of your interests with me I can find out more for you.

If you do not drive, transport is rather limited. There is a bus every hour that will take you either to Asti, or to Torino. You can also do a combination of cycling and train journeys, which is how I mainly get around. I have several bicycles you could borrow while you stay here. You may also wish to not travel at all, in which case I could happily arrange a taxi from the nearest train station to pick you up and drop you off.

I like to leave flexible schedules for my daily productivity, so that I can tackle priorities or allow for inspiration to ferment with less stress. I will start and end the workdays with a small brief to address the plans and any questions and/or concerns.

We love and welcome pets here as there are no longer any domesticated animals on the property for now (apart from a few stray cats that pass by occasionally). Please bear in mind that most of the land is not fenced at all and that there is lots of local wildlife such as birds and hares.
