I am a veterinarian and I opened this shelter over 10 years ago. It was my dream and it is a miracle that it still exists; thanks to the support of a French animal welfare association, ASDM, through which come donations from friends and supporters mostly abroad, as well as adoptions. It is difficult to rely on employees here in Tunisia where, in the popular culture, animals are not very much liked!
I live here with my husband, my teenage twin sons having just left to study in France; having been raised living daily with animals, they have had an unusual childhood compared to other Tunisian children: they have learned empathy and love of animals! They have had, like us, their parents, the opportunity to learn about other cultures and people, so you are very welcome here in our home.
Behind our property there are trails and lots of open space lined with vegetable crops, fruit orchards, and you'll probably meet one of the shepherds herding their sheep along the way. It's perfect for going on a relaxing walk or taking in one of our stunning sunsets.
In the evenings we sometimes go to downtown Nabeul for shopping, dinners, meeting with friends, listening to live music, or to enjoy an ice cream!

We love sharing a delicious meal together so you will most definitely experience authentic Tunisian food! You can also learn Tunisian Arabic if you like. We often have visitors to the shelter, so you will get to know the Tunisian people.
You will learn how to care for dogs and cats. If you are a veterinary student, and/or interested, you will take away a multitude of knowledge after spending time with me in the clinic observing surgeries and/or other medical procedures. There are plenty of opportunities to see all different sides of rescuing a street animal.
Home, clinic and shelter are based 5 km from Nabeul, a seaside resort and lively city all the year round. The shelter includes areas for dogs and separate areas for cats. The daily routine for which we need help is feeding the cats and cleaning their areas, feeding the dogs and cleaning their areas, taking the dogs for walks, and playing with them! Rarely, we may need help with the maintenance of doors and fences in the dog areas.
Although we have one employee we are really in need of volunteers. The spirit of volunteering is something we treasure, especially if you are an animal lover and are familiar with them!

You will stay in the apartment upstairs that connects to our house. From there, you get a general view of the countryside around. And you will have all meals downstairs with us.
Nabeul is 5 km from the shelter, a seashore touristic city very lively even in winter and known for its exquisite ceramics and vibrant Souk (an Arabic market place). In your free time you can visit downtown Nabeul, go to the beach, or to Hammamet, a touristic town on the coast about 20 minutes away. There are collective taxis easy to catch and very inexpensive to travel back and forth between the shelter and downtown, as well as to the other cities along the coast.
