  No experience needed! Calling all animal lovers! We are an animal rescue and farm sanctuary located in south central Pennsylvania. We usually have 50+ rescue animals living in sanctuary care. Inside the main home we have dogs and cats. We are non smokers and need you to be as well.
  
  We seek those who have who have a “can do” kind of attitude, self motivated and willingness to help. We are maintaining, constantly growing and improving the property for the welfare of the animals. We need helpful volunteers with any skill you feel may be valuable to the sanctuary. Your most important task will be helping with animal care. Once you know how, the animals must be let out, fed and watered by 8am at the latest; earlier is okay but no later than 8am. This only takes about 30 minutes.
  
  Our home is our sanctuary. Not only is it our personal sanctuary for peace but also a literal sanctuary to many rescued animals. We maintain a relaxed and respectful vibe. This means not only to each other but also to the animals of this sanctuary. There will be no tolerance for being unkind or disrespectful to the animals. You may not be rough with them, call them names or yell at them. It will not be tolerated. At this property, the animals are more important than the humans. They depend on us for love, care and support.
  
  We will provide (or we will cook together) at least one meal a day and self-serve breakfast foods are available. Mostly plant based eating as one of us is vegan/vegetarian. There will be limited eggs, cheese, meat or other dairy products. Those that don’t cook help with cleanup and dishes.
  
  Absolutely no smoking indoors or outdoors. This is a 100% completely smoke free property. Since this is a sanctuary open to the public, it is against Pennsylvania law to smoke anywhere on the property or within 20 feet of the entrance. Additionally, one of us has asthma and we both find the scent of smoke on your person or clothing is intolerable. No partying or drugs. Limited drinking is okay. One of us does not drink at all and the other has a drink occasionally. In the United States it is the cultural norm to bathe daily, wear deodorant and maintain good hygiene. If your culture teaches you that your natural odor is pleasant or acceptable, please understand that this is not the standard in the United States; you must bathe regularly, wear deodorant and keep yourself and your space clean.
  
  Please do not come here with the intentions of partying or being glued to your phone all day. There is a strict quiet time of 10pm (22:00) where we all go to our separate rooms for the night to relax, watch tv or go to sleep. You cannot come in or out after this time and if you want to go out on your own we need to coordinate it to fit the needs of the sanctuary.
  
  We are not far from: Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, and only a few hours from New York City. We are willing to take you to some areas as time and animal needs allow.
  
  Depending on what type of weather you prefer; it is warmer with no snow from about 20 March to 15 November and it is cooler with the possibility of snow from about 16 November to 19 March. Help is needed year round.
  
  Availability: Negotiable
  Duration of stay: Very open
  Maximum number of helpers: Prefer 1 at a time but 2 may be possible.
  Last minute requests: Yes
  Location: Fairview Township, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Private bedroom. Possibility for other sleep areas if needed.
  Hours per day: Very flexible.
  Work requirements: Daily animal care except days off. Good weather days and all weekends are the most important for helping with projects around the sanctuary.
  
  *Important!
  House rules:
  1. Non smokers only. No smoking of any kind, inside or outside.
  2. Always clean up after yourself, the house should always be clean with no messes. Keep your bedroom and bathroom clean and fresh.
  3. Keep yourself clean and fresh; wear effective deodorant.
  4. No food or drink outside of kitchen and dining areas. We do not eat in living rooms or bedrooms.
  5. Respect 10pm quiet time. Everyone in their rooms and quiet by this time. No in or out, it disturbs people and dogs.
  6. Never, ever be unkind to an animal. Always treat them with love and respect and make sure they are well cared for.
  7. If you support or share any of the same beliefs or values as Donald Trump, this is not the place for you. We will just not be compatible with each other. In this house we believe in equal rights for all, we believe in women’s rights, we believe in equality, we believe in documented history, we trust doctors and we believe in science, medicine and vaccines.

  We have lived all over the US and in multiple European countries. We have a lot of stories and love hearing yours. This animal rescue and farm sanctuary offers great personal fulfillment knowing you’re helping an animal that would have otherwise died.
