Dear Workawayers,
my name is Lucas, I am 35 y/o and just about to finish a PhD in Philosophy/Psychology. The final papers can be written wherever there is a computer, so I have decided to spend some time in the corbières mountains, splitting the day between academic and manual work.
The house was once a watermill and has been the vacation home of my family for over 40 years. Sadly my father couldn't get there for over a decade and I could only get there to keep things running once or twice a year for about a week.
That's why there's been piling up some work to get this wonderful house back in shape. We'll be out in nature all day, far away from civilisation, next to a babbling brook and surrounded by beautiful hills. We'll have to do some gardening, easy diy tasks, cleaning and decomposing of some old stuff. Ideally you'll be able to work remotely for half a day as well. Otherwise there are mountainbikes, swimming spots, nice hikes, slack-lining and options for rock-climbing nearby (including the necessary equipment). I am also a Yoga teacher, so we'll have a Yoga session every other day.
We'll be cooking and eating out on the patio and in the evenings there will be a fire in the fireplace and a collection of boardgames to choose from. If that sounds good, I am happy to hear from you.
Kind regards

I studied humanities until PhD-level and I'm happy to share my academic insights. I travelled to many places and like sharing stories and cool locations. I lived in an ashram for a month to become a certified yoga teacher. I am a rock-climber and a trustful belayer in case you are one too.
But if you want to learn hard-skills, let's get to work together: The place is remote and we'll have to tackle practical problems with simple solutions. There is all kinds of tools for all kinds of tasks. The work on the house has taught me a lot of useful skills over the years and I'm sure we'll learn some more.Ajuda
French contractors will be working in the guest house, while we'll be taking care of the main house and the garden.
We'll find suitable tasks depending on your abilities. If you know how to handle wood, there is always the business of woodchopping and preparing the fireplace to keep the evenings warm and cozy (with proper precautions of course). In general nature is growing all around so the need for gardening is high. Getting groceries and preparing food is also a longer task since any city is about a 30min drive away.
For more experienced helpers there is a basement workshop in the house allowing for wood tasks and other handicrafts. I can do this, but you are always invited to help and learn. For example the shutters are in need of sanding and repainting, the ceiling in the common room needs to be painted and likewise the balustrades on the patio. Apart from that there are plenty of small things to be done, like fixing a dripping water tap, moving or disposing old furniture, etc.
In conclusion: Every day we'll work for a bit and for the rest of the day we'll enjoy the tranquility of nature and share some stories about travelling and culture.Idiomas

On two floors here is a total of four bedrooms to accommodate 1-2 Persons per room. The main house has a small kitchen and two bathrooms, as well as a big living room with a fireplace. The house is big enough to offer privacy to everyone. A big patio in front of the living room invites to spend warm evenings together. We can also cook outside under the open sky.
I am a vegetarian and wouldn't cook dishes with meat, except if it's a priority for you. I will serve fish once or twice a week depending on preference. If you do eat meat I am no hardliner.
Before you decide on contacting me, please be aware of the fact that this house is located in a sparsely populated mountainous region. Whatever you need (cigarettes, grocery, medication, gas) requires at least a 25min drive. You will be reaping the benefits of being "far away from everything" but there is also the annoyance that "everything is far away".Algo mais...
I can provide you with loads of information concerning the surrounding landmarks, cities, restaurants and natural sites. I also have some guidebooks for you and maps for hiking. To cool down, there is a nice swimming place within a ten minute foot-walk and an even nicer swimming place within a ten minute drive. The Corbières mountains are the region of the Cathars, so there are ancient castle-ruins everywhere. Several hiking trails start directly at the door.
Transport is a little difficult though: There is a school-bus going early in the morning and it returns in the late afternoon. The closest train stations can be found in the cities of Limoux, Lézignan-Corbières, Narbonne or Carcassonne each being roughly 30-45min away. If you are planning to stay for about a week, I can fetch you at a train station in combination with a shopping tour. If you want to pass by for only a couple of days, hitchhiking or arriving by car really are the only options.Mais alguns detalhes
