Also the work was good; working in the garden, doing some organizing and tidying up. I can’t wait to have my own herb and vegetable garden now.

Hello Djura, thank you for this wonderful opportunity to experience an off-grid lifestyle in the beautiful Takaka hills. As I mentioned I definitely think one week is too short, but thank you for the possibility on such short notice!

I had an amazing time staying with Djura. My stay was fairly short at just under two weeks, but I still found it to be a very valuable and healing stay regardless of its brevity. I stayed in a caravan in a beautiful area of native bush. I spent my days watering the gardens, doing some weeding and trail cleaning, cooking in the outdoor kitchen, and

The off grid life was challenging for me at first, as I was used to staying in contact with family and friends at home, but the time spent completely disconnected from home is what finally allowed me to feel really connected to NZ. There were several other travelers staying as well who I got to know and spent time with. Overall is was a great mix of time spent towards personal growth and solitude, and time spent exploring Takaka and golden bay with new friends. My time at Djura's was above and beyond my expectations...
I planned to stay for one or two weeks, but ended up staying for two months! Do I need to say more?
Djura's place is a very basic, but wonderful off grid bush property. So no superficial luxury and martialism from everyday life, but there is so much more to gain here!

… read more in wonderful harmony with the nature surrounding her. Ernest, the local weka, included. When you come to help for Djura she will invite you to do the same. Of course there is work to be done, but to Djura it's clearly more important that you enjoy what you're doing rather than how many hours a day you make and when you do it exactly. Besides, Djura absolutely supports own initiatives. I personally really got into making sauerkraut and baking sourdough bread.
This surely is the kind of Workaway opportunity most Workawayers only hope for. It's Workawaying how it's meant to be and actually much more than that...
For me this was a chance to escape for a while from the "rat race" most of us are caught up in. Instead, take your time to settle down, slow down, connect to nature and the people around you and figure out for yourself what really matters to you in this life... My time with Djura defenitely shaped me further as a person.

I really value the experience I had with Djura. The location is beautiful and extremely remote. It really gave me the opportunity to slow down which I think is very important when travelling as I realise I was bouncing from location to location without stopping to truly look around.

If you get the chance to come here prepare to slow down your mind and stop to properly look around. It actually took me a few days to start enjoying my time there but now I'm back home I find myself talking about my time with Djura more than most of the other stuff I did in New Zealand.

For anyone loving nature and wanting an escape from the busy everyday life this is the perfect experience. Djura is a very lovely person and made me feel very welcome. The work is easy to do, as well. The area is perfect to go on hikes or walks and also the town of Takaka is great :). All in all, it was an amazing experience for me. Thank you!
