This is an alternative educational space for ages 5-13 that promotes experiential education, self-directed learning, global citizenship and travel to put its learners on the path to become the proactive and innovative change makers of tomorrow. We are looking for proactive and flexible volunteers to work as assistant teachers during our school year (15.09-15.06) or to lead activities for our english immersion summer camp (16.06-29.08).

Our volunteers will have the opportunity to experience alternative education first hand. They will have the chance to meet a group of amazing educators and children, who are greatly enriched by the various cultures and personalities of our volunteers. In regards to learning about Bulgarian culture, we provide a home base and recommendations for "after hours" exploration of the Sofia and the freedom on weekends to explore the rest of Bulgaria. Our volunteers should realize that as a school it is up to our volunteers to make their own program for evenings and weekends. We have teachers on staff who welcome the chance to have "after hours" cultural exchange, but those relationships must be formed between the volunteers and the teachers.

Ajuda
Our volunteers will be required to spend 3-5 hours per day working with our students and helping to maintain the school environment. Volunteers will be asked to help keep watch or play with the children during the school's free time. Volunteers can help tend to the school's garden or cook with the children in the kitchen. Volunteers can help give the children the extra personal attention they need to reach academic and personal success. Ultimately we hope that our volunteers will share their personal expertise and experiences as a means of enriching our young learners' worlds. We welcome and encourage our volunteers to propose small group activities with the children, but as a learning center that gives learners the right to choose their activities, we can not make promises as to whether volunteers will lead their own activities or support the general learning environment by being a very needed set of watchful eyes. Please note that due to our severe financial restrictions as of the 2024-2025 school year we will ask that 1-2 of the volunteer hours per day are spent cleaning the school in the evening after the children leave. The specifics of the cleaning can be determined during the initial discussions between us and the volunteer.

Our school is located in a beautiful 4 story house in the center of Sofia. Our volunteers will sleep in a private room in the basement with a bathroom. However we are very flexible for volunteers to spend time and sleep in other rooms when the school is not operating which is weekday evenings and weekends. There is a suitable kitchen and washer on the premises for the volunteers to use. There is also a lovely balcony which volunteers can use when it is not being used by the teachers for meetings.

It was my first workaway experience. It was very pleasant staying here for about three weeks. The school was very spacious and adequate in every respect. The children are amazing and very intelligent. The work hours and tasks are not burdensome, but pleasant. The school staff are helpful and kind. I recommend this experience to everyone

Livia & Orkun were wonderful volunteers and we look forward to their return in the Spring. We are a VERY dynamic and constantly changing environment and they were both able to "go with the flow." Both the teachers and the students greatly enjoyed interacting with them. I would highly recommend them to any workaway host :)

While being on the road with our bicycles from Switzerland to China we decided to do our first workaway of the trip in Bulgaria.

It was my first Workaway experience and it was overall great. The school amazed me, the education is really good and you can see that the children profit from this. Most of them speak English so the language barrier is not a broblem. Rachel was always available if you needed (also her house!).

Karen stayed in our school for 10 days and all of us (children and adults) were very sad when she left. Karen is amazing with children! In her quiet way she manages to engage a multiage group of children in interesting activities.
