Hello workaways,
Would you like to join our Non Profit Community?
Our intention is to continue growing as a sustainable, eco conscious plant-based community. Who run a community ashram style yoga retreat all summers to sustain ourselves.
We want to make a positive contribution to the local economy and help to create work and income to a friendly mountain village.
After a busy and amazing first season where more than 30 volunteers spent time with us we have learnt and achieved so much and developed new propects and ideas.
To reflect this we have just updated our profile in preperation for next season so please do read through everything before getting in touch and pop READ IT in your email subtitle to let us know.
Normally we are looking for individuals or couples that commit to a minimum of two months. Even better if you are in it for the whole season. This means you get to experience becoming part of the community and you will have the freedom to get creative and help shape the project.
We appreciatte thats a commitment, but don't think that a long term stay will stop you exploring. We often go on community trips and work our schedules to enable each other to take time off in blocks that allow you to explore other areas.
If you really want to come but don't have so much time, then you are still welcome to get in touch. We do get a lot of messages so make yours stand out by telling us what skills and energy you would love to bring to the project and we will accommodate you if we can these shorter stays tend to work best April and October for practical projects and as extra hands in the busy spells.
Please note we are not offering paid work as we are operating as a non profit community. However, if you are a carpenter or have a set of skills that could help us with a project that we are appling for funding for me can look at this or for working on gurst coach retreats.
BACKGROUND
Our project began in 2020, when Row was inspired after finding herself living in a community in Catalonia and being stranded in Morocco during the first lockdown of the pandemic where she lived with many Digital Nomads and travellers. She has owned the house with some land in Bulgaria for 18 years and decided during COVID to convert the space to become a community & yoga retreat. Her intention was to bring people together to share practices, experiences, stories and to create a safe space to host guests who wanted to join the community for yoga and spiritual retreats.
In October of 2020, with the help of nine Workaway volunteers, work began. We renovated the barn to be used as a yoga and meditation space, an outdoor kitchen for community meals, and the guest house rooms. 2022 has been our first full retreat season, and we continue with projects, having opened a community tea house, co-working space, volunteers’ house, and we are preparing a new forest glamping area for next year.
2022 has been exciting for us. We have welcomed beautiful volunteers and guests, and are already keenly preparing for 2023. The workaway season runs from April to November, from May - Sep we open to guests and run a variety of retreats. We will have four residents next year - Row (founder yoga teacher and community leader), Maria & Thomas (yoga teacher, fire workshop and activities organiser and Ahmad (projects and maintenance lead). We met through the community and are all passionate about what we do here, and are excited to grow our team.
We are all travellers and heading off for the winter - Row is working remotely in Ecuador, Columbia & Peru and learning more about natural medicines and sacred ceremonial practices; Ahmad a spent the winter in Colombia to do some volunteer teaching and to learn about permaculture projects.
We are a vibrant and social bunch who enjoy eating together, playing music around the fire, playing games and dancing.
We are not, however, a party place, and there is a quiet time zone between 10.00pm and 8.00am. We are primarily here to develop our self and spiritual practices so early mornings, meditation and yoga are an important part of our daily life, and we prefer you don't smoke. If it's something you're working on then lets us know maybe we can help.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

Community living is new to a lot of people and can be a great way to learn about how you connect with others, what positive things you can bring to a group, and sometimes to look inward to assess any triggers you may experience. Every single person brings something positive to the community dynamic, and seeing that in other people, as well as seeing it in yourself, is a magical experience.
Row has an Ayurvedic Massage qualification as well as a yoga teacher training qualification, and Alina is a qualified yoga and personal wellness coach, as well as a reiki practitioner. All our volunteers are welcome to join classes when they are available (we hold about four yoga/tai chi/meditation sessions a day).
If you are interested in learning more about producing and preparing healthy vegetarian and vegan meals, there is also a lot of opportunity for that here, as everybody helps out in the kitchen at least a couple of times a week. If you want to learn about things that are going on outside of your main role, we can organise the schedule to give you more time in another area.
This area of Bulgaria is rich in history and culture. We are near to the historic towns of Tryavna and Veliko Tarnovo, Dryanovo monastery, and lots of other interesting monuments and landmarks. We are also surrounded by beautiful nature, with great spots for hiking, mountain biking, and swimming under waterfalls. We have a car and organise weekly trips for the guests, which you are welcome to join when you are available. We can also schedule around you taking a block of time off to go exploring on your own.
Shipka Pass is close to us, and the old capital that defended from the Ottoman Invasion Veliko Tarnovo is close. Also, a famous mineral spa just 3k away, Voneshda Voda is famous for its healing water. Forests, mountains, monasteries 11th-century buildings of Tryavna, it's a significant area. We also have Dryavano Monastery and famous UFO style communist monument near by.Anfitriões que oferecem uma remuneração de acordo com o salário mínimo do país.

Full-Time Volunteer Positions
Our full-time volunteers are the core of our community and we couldn’t keep things running without them. We need committed, responsible and hard-working people to make up our core team! We ask for a two month commitment, 25 hours of work a week with a flexible mindset for busy times which works both ways.
Taking on some of the lessons we have learned from our first season, we have divided the full-time volunteer positions into ‘hats’ which we describe below. Please have a read through and if you think there is a hat that would fit on your head, send us a message explaining why!
Social Media and Co-working Space Caretaker
We welcome guests and volunteers who are digital nomads and have taken on a community building on the other side of the road to house our Balkan Nomads project. This co-working space has a shared office as well as a small private room for video calls, as well as our community tea house next door for relaxing & tea coffee & treats.
The co-working space caretaker needs to co-ordinate the digital nomads we are hosting to make sure everybody has access to the space and privacy when needed, so you need to be highly organised. We also ask you to keep the space clean and tidy.
We also ask this person to look after our social media platforms (mainly Instagram) for the The Retreat as well the Balkan Nomads project. If you have experience in managing social media that would be amazing, but the most important thing for this role is to be creative and to love taking photos and videos that do justice to all the beautiful things that happen here, because we love to share this. This role has really suited people who are digital nomads themselves, as they have used and managed the space simultaneously.
Garden Caretaker and Maintenance Assistant
We have a 2,500 square metre plot and are surrounded by forest, which takes a lot of looking after! We have already started to develop forest paths, herb and vegetable gardens, outdoor practice spaces and a community courtyard, but with this role we welcome creativity and new ideas for how to improve our outdoor spaces.
We have a well-equipped tool shed with everything needed to take care of the land and to make further developments. You will be working closely with Ahmad, who loves to share his knowledge around construction and landscaping.
Our land and plants are sacred to us at the project, not only in providing peaceful spaces for us and our guests to use, but also in nourishing and feeding us. Your tasks will include watering, harvesting, collecting firewood and generally maintaining the land, and we are looking for someone who will do this with love and care.
Kitchen Apprentice
If you would like to learn from our resident Ayurvedic trained vegan chefs then this is a fab opportunity to be their apprentice.
You should have some background in cateeing vegetarian or vegan food and you will haveva mixed role maybe looking after the animals & flowers or perhaps the social media.
Community Friend Scholarship
If you would love to join us to focus on your own spiritual development, yoga practice or healing/personal journey or have work commitments then a full-time volunteer opportunities would likely be too much. We have opened up limited spaces for scholarships to enable a very affordable option for those who deserve to have the opportunity but have financial restrictions.
You will need to commit to volunteering duties for 16h a week which will always be scheduled outside of the sessions allowing you to experience the full schedule of practices you will also recieve guest accomodation and meals as above. Contact us with Community Scholar in the subtitle if you would like to find out more.Idiomas

We now have a second house and a community buildingm you will either have a room in the house (normally reserved for our long term chef) or a bed in our dorm.
You can also camp in the forrest if you prefer and we may be able to supply a tent.
Having experienced many workaways, we feel we offer a very good WorkAway volunteering energy exchange you will recieve nice accomodation, healthy, delicious, plant based meals cooked for you (unless your the chef!) made with natural high quality local produce eaten with our guests as a community twice a day plus fruit & tea and treats.
We are a vegetarian/vegan plant based community, we avoid all factory produce dairy products but support small local producers of cheese, home made yogurt and free range eggs. We also ask that you do not bring single use plastic we are developing our sustainabilty practices and move towards a zero plastic policy. We are happy to cater for strict vegans please be aware that not all our guests or volunteers will be vegan or vegetarian. We believe everyone is on his or her own path and it is not our place to convert or judge we only hope to inspire and trigger awareness around sustainable and conscious eating.
You will also be able to join all yoga, meditation and other practices outside of your volunteer role duties, as part of the yoga retreats and share workshops with guests for which you can ask for donations. We also encourage a tips jar for volunteers from guests.
All our heating is from log burners we would love help to develop projects that enable us to increase our eco conscious lifestyle, we have collected two abandoned puppies a stray cat. We are like to socilaise with our neighbours and Bulgarian neighbours which can turn into some great nights of local music and cultural exchange. Please be aware that whilst we do not drink alcohol at the during guest season, the Bulgarian culture has a heavy connection with a local brew they make from fruit Rakia and wine making which they may invite you to share.
We are also pro freedom of choice so everyone is welcome here, and we trust our volunteers and guest to delay or reschedule visits, should they feel they have any significant sickness that could harm others.Algo mais...
For long term lead role volunteers you may be able to use the car if you have a clean licence.
We have two dogs, two bunnies and a cat that live here, who are all very friendly and love welcoming our guests and volunteers (especially those that like going for walks!)
Volunteers are welcome to run workshops for the guests on a donation basis, so if you have a skill that you would like to develop into something that can be taught and shared, it is a great place to give it a go. This year we have had lots of dance, art, and voice workshops which have been a huge success and so much fun.
We use a system called Trello where volunteers each have their own card. This is where you will find your role description, and checklists for all of your daily and weekly tasks. We also use it for shopping lists and brainstorming, so it is really a communication hub between the volunteers which you can have access to before arriviing if you would like to get familiar.Mais alguns detalhes

Espaço para estacionar campervans
In the summer you can drive up our grass track and park on the outside of our community courtyard so you have water and electric right next to you and a outside loo. In wet weather its better to park on the flat car park at the bottom of our track not in the past we have run an extension cable down for the camper vans if needed.
