Hello workaways,
Would you like to join our Non Profit Yoga Community as a Resident or Karma Yogi in 2024?
We are a non-profit eco conscious plant based who run a raw vegan Chai House. We are a spiritual community who are on a journey to become as self-sustaining as possible. We collaborate as residents and host workaway volunteers (Karma yogis) which we are able to sustain by offering non profit yoga retreats.
The community everyone here contributes 4-5 hours a day volunteering hours extra hours are available and paid for at Bulgarian rates by prearranged, so get in touch to have a chat. We also look after each other and our space through Karma Yoga, the act of selfless giving (cleaning up after yourself or small jobs walking dogs, collecting fruit extra).
Our work exchange is for two chef cooked plant based community meals a day, fruit before and after community meals and an amazing raw vegan salad bar lunch, in our Chai House (extra snacks, hot drinks cakes etc must be paid for in the Chai House, volunteers receive a 20% discount).
You are also invited to join all classes and sessions outside of your volunteering commitments and we have an open policy where all Karma Yogis can share their skills by holding workshops on a donation basis. Residents have some additional benefits please see profile.
We are looking for individuals or couples that want to join us in 2024 as Residents or Karma Yogis. Please go to the help section to read about the roles. We accept and give priority to long term volunteers (Residents) This means you get to experience becoming part of the community and you will have the freedom to get creative and help shape the project. We appreciate that it's a commitment, but don't think that a long term stay will stop you exploring. We often go on community trips and work our schedules to enable each other to take time off in blocks that allow you to explore other areas.
If you really want to come but don't have so much time, then you are still welcome to get in touch. We also have some shorter term options (Karma Yogis). We do get a lot of messages so make yours stand out by telling us what skills and energy you would love to bring to the project and we will accommodate you if we can. These shorter stays tend to work best April, May & October for practical projects and as extra hands in the busy spells. Please be aware we gather for meals and sing or bless our food before we eat we practise noble silence in the mornings and have areas where phones are not to be used
BACKGROUND
Our project began in 2020, when Row was inspired after finding herself living in a community in Catalonia and being stranded in Morocco during the first lockdown of the pandemic where she lived with many Digital Nomads and travellers. She has owned the house with some land in Bulgaria for 18 years and decided during COVID to convert the space to become a community & yoga retreat. Her intention was to bring people together to share practices, experiences, stories and to create a safe space to host guests who wanted to join the community for yoga and spiritual retreats.
In October of 2020, with the help of nine Workaway volunteers, work began. We renovated the barn to be used as a yoga and meditation space, an outdoor kitchen for community meals, and the guest house rooms. 2022 has been our first full retreat season, and we continue with projects, having opened a community chai house, co-working space, volunteers’ house, and we are preparing a new forest glamping area for next year.
We are a vibrant and social bunch who enjoy eating together, playing music around the fire, playing games and dancing. We are not, however, a party place, and there is a quiet time zone between 10.00pm and 8.00am. We are primarily here to develop our self and spiritual practices so early mornings, meditation and yoga are an important part of our daily life, and we prefer you don't smoke. If it's something you're working on then let us know maybe we can help.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
Community living is new to a lot of people and can be a great way to learn about how you connect with others, what positive things you can bring to a group, and sometimes to look inward to assess any triggers you may experience. Every single person brings something positive to the community dynamic, and seeing that in other people, as well as seeing it in yourself, is a magical experience. We have weekly games nights and plan to start to hold weekly BBQ at BalkanNomads our brother site in the village.
If you are interested in learning more about producing and preparing healthy vegetarian and vegan meals, there is also a lot of opportunity for that here, as everybody helps out in the kitchen at least a couple of times a week. If you want to learn about things that are going on outside of your main role, we can organise the schedule to give you more time in another area.
This area of Bulgaria is rich in history and culture. We are near to the historic towns of Tryavna and Veliko Tarnovo, Dryanovo monastery, and lots of other interesting monuments and landmarks. We are also surrounded by beautiful nature, with great spots for hiking, mountain biking, and swimming under waterfalls. We have a car and organise weekly trips for the guests, which you are welcome to join when you are available. We can also schedule around you taking a block of time off to go exploring on your own.
Shipka Pass is close to us, and the old capital that defended from the Ottoman Invasion Veliko Tarnovo is close. Also, a famous mineral spa just 3k away, Voneshda Voda is famous for its healing water. Forests, mountains, monasteries 11th-century buildings of Tryavna, it's a significant area. We also have Dryavano Monastery and famous UFO style communist monument near by.Ajuda

As a resident you are at the core of our community and we couldn’t keep things running without you. We need committed, proactive, responsible and hard-working people to make up our core team! We ask for a commitment of 30 hours of work a week including 5h paid overtime at 10lv per hour.
We also all contribute to the daily living, practical and logistics of community life through an hour of Karma Yoga a day. We tend to work 5 hours a day 5.5 days a week in the open season which we have found makes the flow of the schedule easier.

Residents who are interested in becoming part of the community long term can talk to us about our work for a free land lease proposal a project we wish to launch next year to enable our residents to have the security of their own piece of land where they can build a temporary building, bell tent or other sleeping accommodation to call home. The land is a 10 min walk from here.
Whilst we would love you to join us for the full season we can accept half season residents .
