    Discover the wonders of Costa Rica's blue zones and breathtaking beaches by joining our volunteer program. Experience over 230 hectares of tropical forest while participating in various initiatives, including sea turtle conservation, environmental education, and wildlife hike patrols. In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to learn how to surf or perfect your skills at one of our surf schools.

    We encourage our participants to disconnect from the digital world and relish the pure beauty of nature. Take the time to connect with yourself, the planet, and the environment by immersing yourself in our electricity and Wi-Fi-free environment.

    Our volunteer program is ideal for environmentally conscious individuals who want to get involved in hands-on conservation initiatives, such as sea turtle conservation and environmental education with the children of the Nicoya Peninsula. Volunteers are required to stay for a minimum of two months. We invite you to join us in our tropical forest, spanning over 230 hectares, located in one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches and renowned blue zones in the world. Our volunteer programs offer a diverse range of opportunities, including Sea Turtle Conservation, Environmental Education, and Wildlife hike patrols. In addition, you can indulge in surfing or take a surf class with one of the surf schools operating from our beach during your stay.

    To encourage an authentic connection with nature, we offer an environment free of electricity and Wi-Fi, where participants can unplug from their devices and truly experience life without the distractions of social media. This allows you to connect deeper with yourself, nature, and the planet.

    Our volunteer program is ideal for environmental enthusiasts eager to participate in hands-on conservation initiatives, such as sea turtle conservation, biodiversity counts, or Environmental Education with the children of the Nicoya Peninsula.

    To participate in this opportunity, you must stay for a minimum of TWO MONTHS. Please note that our accommodations do not allow couples. If you are a couple and would like to participate, you will need to sleep in separate beds in a shared dormitory. Additionally, romantic expressions are not permitted.

    Volunteering offers fantastic opportunities to improve your Spanish, gain hands-on experience with wildlife conservation and environmental education. You'll be surrounded by stunning flora and fauna and meet amazing individuals from various parts of the world. Additionally, you'll have the chance to enjoy one of Costa Rica's most beautiful secluded beaches and learn to surf. During your spare time, you can explore the town of Montezuma, which is filled with remarkable natural landmarks, excellent restaurants, and an overall Bohemian atmosphere.

    Volunteer in Montezuma, Costa Rica to help protect and care for Ridley, Hawksbill, and Leatherback sea turtles. You'll learn about their behaviors and assist with tasks such as taking measurements, collecting eggs, and recording data. Even outside of sea turtle season, there are meaningful tasks like cleaning up beaches and helping with community outreach. Accommodations and three daily meals are provided. Join us and make a positive impact on the environment!

    Accommodations

    We provide a two-story house with a kitchen, dining area, living room, and bedroom that can accommodate up to 10 volunteers. The house has running water, two showers, and a toilet. Volunteers are required to maintain the house and treat it and each other with respect and consideration. Any volunteer we feel disrespecting our program may be asked to leave without notice. Due to the kind of accommodation we offer, this opportunity is not suitable for couples.

    Food service

    Volunteers are provided with three meals a day, prepared in the typical diet of the Costa Rican family: rice, beans, tortillas, soups, vegetable stews, pasta, etc. Our staff will prepare meals with the assistance of a volunteer. All volunteers are required to assist with clean-up.

    We are located in Montezuma, Costa Rica. You can reach us by public bus from San Jose.

    Once in Montezuma, wait for someone from the refuge to pick you up.

    We recommend you don’t get to Montezuma until 4 p.m., as walking at dusk is not recommended. If this happens, we highly recommend you stay at a hostel in Montezuma or San Jose.

    Climate:

    The weather is characterized as humid, hot and scorching. Annual precipitation is about 3,000 mm, distributed from May to December. Precipitation presents deficit between July and August during the period known as “Veranillo de San Juan,” which lasts up to 70 days. Average annual temperature is between 24 and 27 C (75,2 to 80,6 F) with a potential annual evapotranspiration of over 1710 mm. The aridity index is over 20%, and the hydric is between 40 and 60%.

    Please be aware that we have no electricity no WiFi, the nearest town (Montezuma) is 3 km away walking on the beach, and this is the only access.

    Warning: No roller suitcases!!! Because of the condition of the trails, we recommend to pack light and bring a backpack; regular bags are tough to carry
