  • Descrição

We manage a small hotel in the centre of Turrialba, a three storey building with 10 rooms, a little garden and a rooftop terrace.

Turrialba is not a tourist hotspot but it has become famous for the best white water rafting in Costa Rica (according to National Geographic! :) ). Also there are many other outdoor activities, you can go rappelling down waterfalls, ziplining, it has beautiful waterfalls to swim at, you can visit a cacao farm and do a chocolate workshop or visit a dairy farm and see how they make cheese, there are coffeetours and botanical gardens and much more.

We get to host many local guests too, hence the importance of volunteers to speak and understand Spanish on an intermediate level.
The average age of our guests is around 35yrs.

A little bit about the history of the hotel:
The owner is originally from The Netherlands and arrived to Turrialba in 2008 to do volunteer work and was looking for an authentic place where she could immerse herself in Costa Rican culture and become fluent in Spanish.
She had planned on staying only a few weeks, but fell in love with the town and... 2 years later she bought a small house and rebuilt it into a boutique hostel which opened it doors in 2011. At first it had only 4 rooms. Every year after that, 2 more rooms were added on untill there were 10 rooms in total. Recently it has transitioned into a Hotel and Tourist information Centre

Turrialba and its people have something special that you might not see at first but will find out after a while and will make you want to stay.

We are a small team and share a passion in meeting and socializing with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Also we have one permanent resident which is Pepper, our adorable house cat.
Highly rated on all OTA's we take pride in our reputation of being one of the cleanest hotels and friendliest staff.

Our project: As a Hotel & Tourist Information Center we want to focus on the activities and wonders of Turrialba. The goal is to attract more tourism to Turrialba by promoting it and getting word out that it has lots to offer. It is a special place in a green valley, at the foot of the Turrialba volcano, that more people should know of.

We will invest in you and teach you what we know and make sure you have the best experience. You will get the chance to gain some real experience in managing a small hotel in downtown Turrialba, do out-door activities in the area, get that typical Costa Rican experience that is hard to find in other touristy spots and what will make your workaway worthwile. In all our travels around Costa Rica we haven't found a place to learn more about Costarican culture as in Turrialba. The city is not built on tourism like many other places and is very authentic. Here you will still feel as the only foreigner in town. A great place to pick-up on your Spanish as not many people speak English. If you want to become more fluent, this is the place to be. People are very welcoming and friendly and are easy to talk to. Turrialba will quickly steal a part of your heart. Every Friday and Saturday there is a market where all farmers from the surrounding area sell their produce and you get to taste fruits and veggies you have maybe never seen before. Also Turrialba is famous for the Turrialba cheese which is made on the slopes of the volcano. La 'ruta de queso' (the cheese route) is called because of that and besides is a beautiful area to hike as it has stunning views of the valley and the village. In the Talamanca mountains, a 2 hour busride from Turrialba you can find the indigenous villages of the Cabecar people.

This project is for volunteers, 25+ yrs old, for a minimum of 2 months, that speak English and Spanish.
It is for volunteers that like the idea of living in a typical Costa Rican city for a while, while helping at the hotel, enjoy outdoor activities, the local farmers market and making friends with the ' Turrialbeños´.

We look for individuals to join our team with a certain level of maturity that have work experience and excellent sociable skills. The day to day tasks of the hotel consist of welcoming our new guests, helping with the check-in process, help guests with organizing their tours, but also when needed helping with laundry, the garden, social media, cleaning, maintenance.. we all multitask :) Aside from the daily tasks to make this a welcoming place for tourists, we focus on new ideas and projects to attract more tourists to Turrialba. Your ideas and input are greatly apreciated.

Important is that you have an intermediate level of the Spanish language. Spanish is more important than English.
Previous experience in management/customer service/receptiondesk is a big plus.

Other important qualities to volunteer for us is to be self-motivated, pro-active, sociable and kind, you like to be of service to people, you have positive energy, a commitment to contribute to the friendly atmosphere and wanting to be part of making this hotel a wonderful place.

If interested please add your current location, date of availability, age, intended length of stay and the reason why you think we will be a good match for eachother.

If you have a Whatsapp number please include that in your message.
