We are a Chilean/ Canadian, married couple currently staying in the Atacama Desert. Susana and I have been nomads from when we met in New Zealand in 2011. Having many volunteering experiences in countless places around the world working from eco-villages in Portugal, teaching Kindergarten in India, organizing our own after-earthquake relief in Nepal, and most recently teaching English in Vietnam.
We use our own experiences from the past 6 years traveling and living out of our backpack, bringing the “world” to the small town of Pozo Almonte in the Atacama Desert. As we both are very “cultural aware” we want to invite Volunteers from around the world to our home to share your time with our family. (Cultural Exchange) We all respect each other and work as a family, at the end of the day we are all here to enjoy, learn, explore, make friendships, and have an adventure!
We are looking for a couple or single helper to help in some new ideas for our families home, including painting walls, designing and building a new BBQ and oven, organizing, taking care of pets, cooking, some daily chores..

Take the dogs for a walk around and watch the sunset and the sky is very clear in the evenings, so we can take a drive out of the city to see the stars.
We are just 1 hour from the touristic Oasis de Pica and Mamina. 15 mins from Humberstone... etc.. (These are places that over priced tours will take you from Iquique). we will plan trips with you! We know the area very well as we love to make trips. We have some camping gear as well..
We love to help out with your future travel plans in Chile, Peru, Bolivia. We are just 3 hours from Peru and 4 hours from Bolivia borders. Susana and I have traveled through all 3 countries and Susana's parents are form the borders of Bolivia and Chile and speak Aymara.
Iquique, The beach! We do go to Iquique on a regular basis, and can invite you to join us. We are also involved with the community in Iquique and we can take you to some of the events or other events happening in the city.
Este projeto pode envolver crianças. Para mais informações, veja aqui nossas diretrizes e dicas.
The Schedule:
It gets very hot in the mid day and then cold as soon as the sun goes down. So we do most of our work early morning and then in the evenings. When it gets hot we come inside and prepare the big lunch. We will cook for Susana's family, 5 adults and 2 children + our volunteers. After lunch we will do a few more hours work until tea time, which is tea and bread, and something sweet. Again this is all the Chilean style way of eating. After tea we can take the dogs for a walk around and watch the sunset. The sky is very clear in the evenings, so we can also take a drive out of the city to see the stars.
Basic Types of work:
painting
dirt removal
simple tasks
taking dogs for walks
cooking
housekeeping
cleaning
organizing
helping building BBQ and pizza oven
daily chores
It is all very general things, some days will be different then others, we have many different tasks that we want to be able complete in the next few months and we would love to share with you! The work is not hard and can be rewarding, we can work together and would love to hear your input on some of our ideas! Just be aware, this is Chile and things can seem to go a bit slow, if not backwards.. In the end, it is only our experience together that matters. Susana and I have been traveling for many years and we know exactly what we expect and more important what you expect. We all respect each other and work as a family.
Length of time:
Honestly, we have no start time and no end time, you can come when you want and you can leave when you want, and then you can come back when you want. There is no time period. We only expect that you communicate with us and give us an appropriate departure time. basically so we don't buy extra food, and its just being respectful :)
At the end of the day we are all here to enjoy, learn, explore, make friendships, and have an adventure! Soo.. what are you waiting for! We welcome you to our home.

You will have your own room with a comfortable bed, hot water, and wifi. We include breakfast, the big Chilean lunch, and then tea time (dinner).
You will live in the small town of Pozo Almonte (40 mins from the city of Iquique, 3 hours from Arica). Pozo is not the most touristic town, its quiet rustic and by no means a big city but it will have all the services you require. Pozo is very close to all the touristic places, 1 hour to Oasis de Pica, Mamnina, 15 mins to Humberstone, and just 3 hours from Peru or Bolivia boarders. Pozo has a very large amount of dogs, so if your a dog lover there are many dogs to give carinos :)
