Staying at Romina and Fanis’s place was a truly beautiful experience. Romina is very kind and always attentive to the well-being of the Workawayer. Fanis is also incredibly welcoming, chill and kind. The children - Mara, Leonidas, and Yanis - are full of energy, curiosity, and creativity. I loved getting to know them and sharing moments of play
… read more and learning. Since Yanis goes to school, I saw him a bit less, but he was just as sweet and fun to be around whenever we had the chance.
We did a pirate movie with the other homeschooled kids as part of the Octopus School activities (the homeschooling group they’re part of). It was a joyful, creative project and a great way to connect with the children through storytelling and filmmaking.
One important thing to mention about this experience is the sense of community. Romina, along with several other homeschooling families on the island, has built a beautiful support network where children learn together and volunteers are warmly welcomed. Many of these families also host volunteers, so there’s a natural flow of people, ideas, and cultures enriching the daily life on the island.
Whether it was sharing meals, joining activities, or simply being part of everyday family life, I always felt included and valued. For anyone looking for a meaningful and heartwarming Workaway experience, I couldn’t recommend this family more.

This truly is an idyllic Workaway experience. Imagine staying in a lovely, quiet self-contained suite on the ground floor of a beautiful, private family home, with a gorgeous gated garden, which is a 10-minute walk from the beach/supermarket/busy tourist area, and a 5 minute walk from the bus stop.
Now imagine that the accommodation and location

My 12 year-old daughter and I spent a month with Romina, Fanis and their three sweet kids last summer (2024). While we’d like to visit somewhere new, we loved Skiathos, Romina, her family, and their delightful community of friends SOOOO much, we are returning there for 5 weeks this summer (2025)!
Romina and Fanis are lovely, open, kind, generous people, who genuinely want their volunteers to get the most out of their stay. Fanis is super-busy running the business and Romina is super-busy running the family. With three kids (one at school, one homeschooled, and one toddler) - and a deep commitment to healthy, natural living - Romina really appreciates the support of volunteers. (She will tell daily how much she appreciates you!)
We loved this family. Romina is so easy to chat with and we were very comfortable being in the family house. There is always lots to do, and it was easy to pitch in with whatever was needed. We went to homeschooling activities (the homeschooling community is wonderful), folded laundry, watered the vegetable garden, played with the kids, held the toddler (who was a baby last year!), helped with food prep or clean up, and just did whatever was needed.
In exchange, we had the most wonderful self-contained suite with its own entrance and own laundry facilities. We ate with the family at least once a day, but also really enjoyed trips to the nearby supermarket so that we could make our own Greek salads, etc. Romina and Fanis also took us on hikes, to the beach, to community events, and even to the most fabulous beachfront tavernas.
We cannot wait to return.

Romina and Fanis welcomed me so warmly into their German-Greek family that I felt at home from the very first moment. They went above and beyond to make sure I had an incredible time. From giving me great tips on how to explore Skiathos to introducing me to Greek cuisine – and, of course, the delicious treats from their family-owned bakery Mamma
… read more Mia! Their bakery is a true gem, and the Greek pastries alone are a reason to fall in love with Skiathos.
My tasks were super relaxed: I helped around the house, played with the kids, and was simply there as part of the family. The three kids are absolutely adorable, and we had so much fun crafting, walking the dog, and almost daily trips to the beach.
Romina is so inspiring, warm, and laid-back – I learned so much from her, and we had so many lovely, meaningful conversations.
Fanis, on the other hand, was super funny and always made me feel safe and comfortable. He also had the best sense of humor and taught me lots of quirky and interesting Greek facts. Both of them were incredibly supportive and always there to help if I needed anything.
The food was also a highlight! We cooked fresh and healthy meals every day, and my accommodation was amazing: modern, spotless, and cozy. I even had my own apartment with a private entrance, which gave me the perfect balance of family time and privacy.
And then there’s the island: Skiathos is simply breathtaking! From the charming white streets in Skiathos town to stunning beaches and green mountains, open garden theater and cinema – it truly has it all.
I’ve grown so attached to Romina, Fanis, and their family, and I’d come back in a heartbeat. Thank you for such a beautiful experience!Comentário
