We spent a marvellous 3 weeks with Paolo and his wonderful family. Paolo truly epitomises Italian hospitality - we were made to feel like a part of his family from the moment we met him, whether it be cooking lunches under the olives, to sampling the most amazing Ligurian focaccia and shopping at the Chiavari markets, to coffee and lunches at
… read more Paolo’s favourite bars and Trattoria. It is nestled into the cliff looking across the sea to Portofino where we watched the sunset most afternoons. The cottage itself is as the name suggests, old fashioned in charm but with all the modern necessities. Chiavari and Rapallo are easy towns to get into for anything you might need. There is a bus stop at the top of the driveway which give easy access.
The work we helped Paolo with was extremely satisfying. He showed us the things he wishes to realise in the future. We went from there to complete things we were most comfortable with including taking down the olive nets, gardening and painting. However we worked along at our own pace - Paolo was adamant that whenever we could, it will be more important to go to Cinque Terra and to walk from Santa Margherita to Portofino and to San Fruttuoso. We are proud to have (hopefully) played a little part in helping Paolo achieve his dreams.
Our time with Paolo and his family was the first Workaway we have ever done - it is hard to imagine we will ever find better hosts. When Paolo realises all his dreams it will be even more of a paradise. Thank you for everything, Grazie Mille, Mercedes and Beau.
It’s difficult to imagine a workaway experience better than the one we had at Paolo's rustico in Chiavari. Paolo is a beautiful person with a great sense of humor who made us feel welcome and at home from the very moment we met. The rustico, where we stayed and where we helped picking olives, is simply a paradise. The small but comfortable house

It has a terrific sea view and easy access to the sea – where we spent many afternoons, watching the sunset. And as the icing on the cake the weather is beautiful year round! But it’s not just this paradise that made our stay so wonderful: way more important is Paolo himself, and his marvellous hospitality. Although we had expected a week of hard work, it was rather like a vacation centred around learning what real Ligurian culture is – with Paolo teaching us how to pick olives as just a minor part of that course. For example Paolo showed us where to buy the best products in Chiavari, prepared us delicious Ligurian dishes, brought us along to the frantoio (oil mill) and even took us to a lovely local trattoria. We had plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings and as the rustico is easily reachable by bus, we took the opportunity to walk from Santa Margherita to Portofino (a magnificent route along the coastline) and spent a lovely day in Chiavari. We enjoyed every minute of our week in the rustico and hope to return there one day - both for the beautiful person that Paolo is and for the little paradise that he's founded.
It was a pleasure to have Jasja and Hugo staying at our rustico! They are such a wonderful couple, very open minded and open hearted... great people to spend time with. They showed a lot of interest in our little project and they provided a great help with all the tasks that we had to do. They are very clean, tidy and left the house in perfect

It was a pleasure to have you here with us Olivia! Olivia is wonderful person to have around and an amazing workawayer. She was a big and kind help around the Rustico, very kind and appreciative. Hope to have you back soon!

I had some of the most memorable and unique 2 weeks of my life while staying in the Rustico. Lovely dinners with friends and neighbors, afternoons spent by the ocean, and sunsets with the most beautiful view. Paolo is the most generous, funny, and welcoming person you’ll ever meet! Keep in mind that you’ll be staying in the rustico on your own (Paolo and some of the family / friends visit around 2-3 times a week), so your time here is very independent and I would highly recommend to come with a friend or travel buddy here. Paolo will show you around the garden and assign some tasks to be completed for the week, and you have the freedom to complete them when you’d like to during the week. The tasks are simple and we had so much free time to explore the area (cinque terre, Portofino, sestri levante, and much more). They also have incredibly friendly neighbors that will help you with anything you may need while Paolo is gone!
Thank you guys so so much for your generosity and kindness (and all of the wine and focaccia ;)) I hope to come back again!!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Thanks so much for staying with us Max! Max is a lovely young man and it has been a pleasure to have him staying with us for these two weeks! He is a very nice and friendly person. He was a great help around our Rustico while being a very clean and warm guest!

I stayed at the Rustico for 2,5 weeks together with another workawayer and had an amazing time! Our host, Paolo, immediately showed us amazing hospitality and Italian generosity. He showed us around to see the stunning area, let us try fantastic food and taught us about the Italian flora and fauna.
The area, as mentioned, is amazing. Chiavari is

The tasks was fair and we were allowed to plan our days as we wished. It was fun helping Paolo transforming the Rustico in the paradise that it is. I have never had more beautiful views while eating, and spent multiple evenings down by the water, just a few minutes from the house.
I truly recommend this experience for others and I know that I will be back!
