Hello workawayers! My name is Tono. I am a highly motivated and an open minded person. I live in a small village called Tombula in Muna, Southeast Sulawesi. I am an English teacher. I run a free English immersion school teaching environmental awareness, social studies, health education, arts education, science, etc... to kids, teens, and adults in Tombula and the surrounding villages. This school is non-profit and is based on the principles of learning, sharing, and empowering.
We offer a caring and friendly environment for you to live and work, and are excited to share our culture with you. We have hosted many workawayers in the last two years and had wonderful experiences with each of them. They have each helped to develop the school with their ideas and hard work. We are looking for more people that want to continue to help our school grow.
We have created the first English library on Muna. The library now has over 1,000 books and counting! Our English reading center helps our students and the community around the villages learn English and encourages reading. It is very hard (almost impossible) for us to get English books here on Muna, so we would greatly appreciate if you could bring books that range from easy to intermediate level.
Furthermore, we are hoping to make a website to empower more people, so we would love to work with people who have website design experience.
When you are here you will primarily be teaching English in the ways that interest you and that match your ability, basically anything that involves your imagination and creativities. You will also have lots of time to explore the island of Muna. We can take you to many beautiful lagoons, caves, and beaches where you can swim and we also can show you around the island via motorbike. You will see and experience things tourists rarely see.

Muna is full of history and culture with many places to visit. You will have the opportunity to see a lot about our island, culture, and traditions. You will also be living with our family and will get to learn about daily life and how to cook traditonal food. You may also have the opportunity to see flying kite competition, learning traditional dance, music, how to make cashew nut, and how to make coconut oil.

When teaching the local children, teens, and adults, please feel free to incorporate your own ideas. We have a curriculun that we use as a guideline, but we feel that teaching seems to work best when the teacher has ownership of the creative input. Please remember that the students will often come to class straight from school so keeping the sessions fun and interactive is the way to go!

we will provide you three delicious healthy meals each day, prepared by my family (vegans and vegetarians are easy accommodated and most of the food come from our garden). We have 2 rooms and 1 toilet. We provide a mattress, a mosquito net, blanket, and pillows. The bathroom is a local style (cold shower and squat toilet). You can reach us by taking a flight from Makassar to Muna/Raha (from Hassanudin airport to Sugimanuru airport). We will pick you up at the airport and take you to our house. You can also take a boat (PELNI COMPANY) from Makassar to Baubau then we will pick you up at the port and take you to our house.
Muna is a hidden tourist destination on Southeast Sulawesi. Less than 10 km from our house you can do a cultural visit, sport ( swimming, motorbike, running, playing football, etc) and visit some interesting places, such as lakes, lagoons, rivers, caves, and beaches. From Muna you can reach other destinations by motorcycle, car, ship or plane.
Please note there is no Wifi, you will need to buy a sim card (TELKOMSEL works best) for your mobile phone, which you can buy locally. I can be contacted on WhatsApp and Facebook. I will give you my details when booking has been confirmed.
