Despite my short stay, I had an amazing experience at Laverne's. She opened up her home to me and we dined and talked about life and living off grid. The pictures do not do the view/landscape justice. Often, I could not help but to just sit for a while with tea, looking at the horizon. The chickens running around are fun to watch and the dogs and

Living off-grid was an eye-opening adventure, and I learned so much about off-grid solar power and water systems. I had the opportunity to learn about gardening, weeding, and even food preservation techniques. Laverne

Laverne is one of these people that has the old knowledge for homesteading (a lot of Mother Earth magazines!). On top of that she has extensive knowledge and/or experience in almost any topic one can think of - cooking, motorcycles/repair, IT... You name it. Alef helped me quite a bit on the homestead. He learned quickly and was always eager to assist with the wide variety of chores. He is quiet but very smart and funny once he opens up. Always respectful and flexible. I am going to miss him and highly recommend him. Good luck Alef on your journeys.

dug water well by hands ( 12 ft, 17 ft deep each), put the solar, built the cabin with daughter with reclaimed woods for

… read more drank and made yogurt. Chickens give fresh eggs daily which we made omletts, Frittatas. While I was there she changed brake pads for her truck, fixed her ATV, lawn mower, fixed sprinkler. You can learn a lot of lost ways.
Due to high elevation (3900 ft) and hill behind the cabin, Sun will not wam you up until 8:30AM.
Need to bring warm clothing.
