  We are a family of four with two young sons aged 10 and almost 7. We are looking for someone to join our household for a cultural exchange and to help with some childcare. We live in a beautiful mountain town called Revelstoke in British Columbia, Canada. We are an active family that values spending time outdoors as much as possible. We chose to live where we do to be close to the natural world. Regardless of weather, we spend time outside as often as possible. Biking, hiking, skiing, climbing, exploring - just put on the clothes & boots and go!
  
  Chris is a mountain guide who works for Parks Canada. He drives every day 45-60min to work in the mountains. His primary role is to help with rescues and safety issues in the park. Jen is a family doctor. She works part time some weeks and full time other weeks. She does clinic work, delivers babies, and sometimes sees patients in the hospital. One or two times a month she travels 2.5hrs to work in a nearby town.
  
  Finn and Rowan are social, active kids who wake up happy and eager to start the day. Finn loves reading books and playing with Lego. He enjoys skiing, biking, running and playing basketball (he thinks he's going to be in the NBA!). Being an only child for his first 3.5years, Finn loves talking to adults. Rowan is a cheerful almost 7 year old who is always trying to keep up to his older brother. He loves his stuffed animals and sleeps every night with them curled up in his arms. He really loves all board/card games and sports. He also likes to ski, bike, play with Lego and listen to stories. Being a second child, he is very independent and is often content playing games by himself. We also have a friendly pet cat named Beeker.
  
  Revelstoke is a mountain town of 8000 people with plenty of snow (over a metre in town) and temperatures that are mainly below freezing in the winter. The large amount of snow we get means roads can be closed due to avalanche danger, so Revelstoke can be isolated for a few days at a time. The nearest large city (Kelowna, 120 000 people) is a 2.5 hour drive away, which is also the nearest airport. It is a 6 hour drive to Vancouver, BC and a 4.5 hour drive to Calgary, Alberta.
  
  There are many fun activities to do in the summer and winter. Summer activities include road and mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and spending time at the lake. There are also some organized sports teams. Winter activities include skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding. This area is famous for skiing for a reason and we get LOTS of snow in the winter. There is a great indoor pool, library, and recreation centre a few blocks from our house. There is a movie theatre as well as a live theatre with occasional plays and small concerts that come through town. There are other creative opportunities in town.
  
  We are non-smokers and do not want smokers living in our home. Sorry about that.

  We would love to welcome you into our family, help you explore Canadian culture, and especially have adventures with us in the natural world. We have had au pairs living with our family previously and we have loved the exchange of culture and ideas!

  Ajuda

  We are looking for some help with childcare as both myself and my husband are on call at times with our jobs. We don't need full time help. In fact, we'd prefer to trade childcare for rent. At the moment, Finn is in grade 5 and can come home and go to some activities independently. Rowan is in grade 1 and attends after school care until 4-5pm Monday to Thursday. Sometimes we need help getting him to swimming or nordic ski lessons. Chris often leaves for work at 6am and isn't home until 5pm. Jen is on call for obstetrics 1-1.5 weeks a month. She also travels out of town 3 days a month. We are looking for someone who could be a back up when Jen is on call from 6am-8:45am, help with child drop off/pick up a few times a week, and be back up while Jen's on call approximately 1-2 Sundays a month. Sometimes if you are short on hours we might ask that you babysit one evening. You would be welcome to seek out other employment or just enjoy exploring our beautiful town.
  
  If you want more regular childcare work, there are many other families looking for childcare support in the community. It would easily work to help our family in the morning, and then go to another job.

  Acomodação

  Private room in a shared house. You would have space in the fridge/freezer and the freedom to cook anything you want. The house comes with all amenities including bedding. You just need to bring yourself :). We are also open to having you eat with the family.

  We sometimes go away on holiday. If you are home we just ask that you look after the house, feed our cat Beeker, and give him some love. Otherwise we can figure out alternate arrangements.

  We have a good wifi connection. However if we were constantly using extra data we would need to negotiate a fee to help cover this.

  Maximum 3hrs a day/3-4 days a week. One sunday a month would be longer but you would not have the children the entire time -you would simply be on call to help during the day if needed.
