… read more had to write a review for this house sit, what better moment to do so than after having shared a bottle of wine with the host. Wine from the Murcia area we are in! Ole! And so, Marco has been so very accommodating and flexible and easy going from the very start and I am very glad that I took a chance to come here, not knowing if I would like it but more because honestly, I didn't know where to go... but I knew I wanted to be alone in a quiet place. And quite it has been! so very quiet that sometimes I had to check that I didn't have still my earplugs inside my ears......I love this place now, the mountain, Lara...the old house.....it's arid, dry, sometimes windy but sunny, always sunny... it's Spain! A part of Spain I didn't know existed before I came here. Now I will leave, but I want to come back again soon. So, dear workawayer, this has been a very transforming house sit for me, and I am sure it would be so for anyone looking for a peaceful and remote place to be. Marco has made this possible and I am very grateful to thim and so glad I came. Gracies!This Workawayer has chosen to keep their profile private.

Ruth has been great up at the farm. She has kept the house immaculate and is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She has a positive attitude towards life and is it rubs off on those around her, whether they be human, animal or whatever else. Highly recommended.

I spent several months at Marco's place and had a great time there.
He was mostly away, so I chose not to rate cultural exchange since it would not be fair.
Marco him self is very laid back and easy going, even while he was not present, he did still provide the information I need and had always an open ear.
The place has a lot to offer, especially

I had also a lot of free time there, and could work on my own terms.
Transportation and food supply worked great too, even thought it is off grid, I had everything I required.
Even the Internet connection was better than expected.
If you like nature and plan to visit Spain, don't hesitate to contact him, I enjoyed every single day of my stay.

This workaway was very special for me, After spending 3 months working in and around Marco's property I can say that I have learned a lot about myself and have expanded my skill set. During my time I did some cementing, painting, filling, carpeting, mosaic, olive processing, cleaning and fixing. I had a wonderful opportunity to improve my spanish
… read more almost everyday with the sweetest caretaker. Marco gave me a lot of space and freedom which I really appreciated, and he also made sure I never went hungry. We had some nice BBQs under the stars, some nice dinners and funny movie nights. Although this place is quite isolated, if you are looking to work on yourself in a nature paradise whilst being in good company, this is the place to be.

I was honoured to have Sam, Ester, Aron and Efraim on our finca because they kept the place moving throughout the most difficult period we/the modern world has ever been through.

… read more bring us up to par in a world where even the most successful hostelries were going under.
That is not to say they are only limited to the hostelry sector - on top of cleaning guest houses, maintaining the areas open to the public and fixing almost anything that the wilderness threw at them - this morally forthright and honest household is able to charm anyone and anything that happens to pass by including olive trees, wells and even complex plumbing.
I think as a whole, considering the circumstances, they have been the most valuable Workawayers that we have had here.
Thank you Sam, Ester, Aron and Efraim for being present when the going got tough

In a beautiful setting, with a variety of jobs and tasks. In our almost 5 months there (we were there just as the corona lockdown started), we pruned olive trees, built a henhouse, outdoor stairs and bench with a table, repaired and painted walls, weeded, cleaned and cleared, boarded up an oval window and more. … read more things we got to do. We liked the autonomy, yet can imagine it not being for all. With most tasks/jobs, it was up to us to find the suitable tools and materials. At the beginning of our stay our food supplies were bought for us, later we got the money to get them ourselves. Marco, Inés and Mati (the three people living there then), were kind to us. We had a few barbeques together and Marco did an Easter egg hunt for us all.

I helped with whatever was needed to be done, mostly cleaning of the chalets. The work was fine and we could spend our free time in the mountains :) Marco was friendly, easy going and I felt really welcome and whenever we wanted to go to the city there was always someone around to give us a ride to town.

Our experience with Marco was great. he lives there with another Spanish family whom are very lovely and they all welcomed us as part of their family. We had our meals together as one big family :) depending on the weather sometimes we had barbecue, and Sundays were Paela day! Yum..

As soon as you finish your daily task rest of your time is for you to chill and explore. The sunrise and sunsets are very beautiful up there. We didn't dare to go in as it was winter though there is a pool that you can enjoy too. :)
As an artist I also got to leave something for the place which I really enjoyed making. If any of you are artists and would like to continue what I started this will be a mural collaborated with various artists. It's a mural piece by the outside bath for one of the guest houses. Marco would explain you what it is that he wants so you will have better idea for what you can do. And Luke did roof carpentery and tiling for him :)

… read more capabilities that even the hardiest recruiter couldn’t dream up. Just ask him to teach you the can game and all will be revealed. He went above and beyond on the work side of things and built us an offering to the football gods in the form of a ship with West Ham colours. On top of that he kept the houses looking fab-u-lous.
Anna is the professor of the team and as such in charge of logistics and coordination. Without her I would have been inundated with angry clients and dirty sheets. She always gets the job done no matter what and keeps track of business like a hawk.
As a family they are great fun to be around and kept the continuity and calm which is a feat in itself as there is so much that can go wrong in our line of work. Looking forward to having them back here and sharing a bottle or two.

It has been such a great experience to have had the opportunity to live in the secluded hills of Lorca. It will always hold a place in our hearts; such breathtaking views & scenery which can be enjoyed on every peaceful walk in the wilds. … read more handling changeovers & queries) & met some charming & interesting characters along the way. As a family we learnt how to live with the back-to-basics approach; amongst the natural water systems & solar power that had the occasional blip, but Marco taught us so much, which will stand us in good stead for the future. Marco also helped us beyond a friend’s duties & never stopped surprising us with his talents.
Everyone has the chance to put their mark on the land or houses with their own creativity. We built a boat that will hopefully inspire many future travellers to add a bit of uniqueness to the surroundings.

I spend just one week here as I had to leave earlier than scheduled due to personal reasons. Marco offers lots of space to develop your ideas and qualities into work, there's loads of work to be done and one can choose the work which fits best.
The area needs
… read more strimming, weeding, tree chopping and pruning, creating a campsite with its logistics, cleaning, painting and many other tasks. If you're creative or just looking for physical active work, here you can find both.
The surrounding is stunning. You are in the middle of wonderful nature, no hassle, no artificial noises arround you, no bars, no city hassle, just pure and lovely nature. If you are into this, than Marco's place is what you're looking for. Be prepared on spanish lifestyle; especially the dinners at later hours are the best proof! All food is prepared by the workawayers, so it is in your own hands what will be served at the table.
I am very sorry to have left earlier than planned, but I am sure more workawayers will find their way to this lovely spot and great host.

Our trip was planned for a month, but it turned out that we spent two here!

We helped in construction and repair in the main house, some landscape work, cooking for 5-10 persons. All this took up to 5 hours a day.
In the last days we decided to make a gift and built a design wood table for new part of house, we hope that it will last a very long time.

They worked tirelessly on a huge stone bench that they designed themselves and in doing so demonstrated superb managerial skill as they led a team of builders, excellent resourcefulness through using mostly spare building supplies that we had lying around, and on top of that they put in more hours than I could count.
