Staying with Johannes, Sabine, and little Raphael through Workaway was an absolutely incredible experience for both me and my 9-year-old son. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed as part of the family, and we are deeply grateful for the warmth and care they showed us throughout our stay.
What was initially planned as a one-month stay
… read more turned into six wonderful months, simply because we felt so loved, comfortable, and at home with them.
Johannes and Sabine, along with their intelligent and independent 3-year-old son Raphael, shared so many beautiful experiences with us. They took us skiing and treated us to an unforgettable weekend in Rosenheim, and we also had the chance to explore Munich together. These moments are memories we will always treasure.
Beyond the amazing personal connection, they supported us tremendously during our first months in Germany. They went above and beyond to help us navigate bureaucratic matters, paperwork, and appointments with city and government offices—something that can be quite overwhelming when you're new to the country.
The work itself was very flexible and always reasonable. It included helping with household tasks, gardening, and assisting with the renovation of their house. We were never alone in the tasks—either Johannes or Sabine were always around, making the work feel collaborative and pleasant.
We are truly grateful for everything: for the support, the laughter, the learning, and especially for being treated like family. Thank you for making our first chapter in Germany so special.

It was a perfect stay.
It was winter and they gave me indoor jobs.
They respected my pace and I was able to balance my online work with no problem.
The house is clean and very cozy.
I had a large room with a private shower and plenty of privacy.
I also had lots of nature (clucking chickens, mountain views, clean air and starry skies).
They drove
… read more me to the main station so I could easily go sightseeing. (if it fit with their work schedule).
They shared their culture and hobbies with me. It brought me into contact with many people and a valuable experience.
We made sweets and sausages together and shared Japanese food.
It is always fun to spend time in the kitchen with them.
Of course I was nervous, but there was no need to worry. Their son is like an angel and very friendly. Playing with him is very fun and healing.
I will always remember the sound of him calling my name. Sometimes a sweet cat also spent time with me.
They were so kind to me when I was sick and always took care of me.

Hitomi is a calm and lovely person, who is very helpful and happily took over each task we gave her to do. In shortest time she made friendship with our son and she was really an angel in caring for him. She was very interested in hearing about and experiencing our culture. Both Johannes and his wife are incredibly decent and respectful people who went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. Their home is situated in a stunning area surrounded by mountains—perfect for anyone who loves nature. The house itself is modern and well-equipped, and I was provided with my own room and private bathroom, which was very convenient. Meals were warm and enjoyable, as we usually had breakfast and dinner together, making me feel like part of the family.
Their toddler is absolutely adorable and full of energy—he loved playing with me, which was such a joy! Although I could only stay for less than a week due to prior commitments, I’m grateful for the kindness and hospitality they showed me.
