I am a woman of great articulation and I struggle to put into words what this family brought to my life when they accepted me into their home...
Firstly the work away profile is quite outdated, but Eliana should be fixing that very soon!
Amanda and Jade are 8 and 10 now and they are honestly the two most amazing little humans you'll ever meet.
… read more Amanda (10) has an amazing mind, she is so very smart and is so connected and intuitive, she absolutely loves to dance and create and is almost always up for having a conversation. She just loves to learn, she's hungry for information, knowledge and wisdom, you can chat with her about just about anything honestly!
Jade (8) is an absolute ball of energy, she has the most beautiful singing voice and loves to be up and about, walking their dog, dancing, exploring. She is sure to show you her love with random hugs and “i love you’s” She's highly sensitive to emotions so there is no fooling her, open communication, honesty and love work best with the girls, they're very understanding and when asked they listen very well! both the girls have a heart of gold and also love music. Sharing songs with them is always fun, I would usually play some music in the kitchen when cooking.
The kitchen is definitely the most used room in the house, the family love to cook and share meals, the girls can cook almost better then I can haha. I found it a pleasure to help around the house and with the girls, never did i feel as though it was a burden. I liked to made sure the kitchen was orderly after each sitting as it gets pretty chaotic in there really quick, and It helps Eliana a lot. Just loading and unloading the dishwasher as well as wiping over the countertops makes the world of difference. Eliana and Jose make it clear from the start “Mi casa es tu casa”. you are part of the family from the moment you walk in that door, anything you want, need or desire you must simply just ask. They allow you the freedom to explore the town and the mountains as they know the magic that lies there, on the weekends they even love to do things with you.
some other tasks I would find helpful was the folding of the washing, sweeping the floors and tidying up some of the girls items. I aided the girls in schoolwork and projects which honestly was really fun! It’s important to remember the girls don’t need another mother, they need someone like a big sister and a best friend, they’re sisters and they bicker honestly they quite often they work it our very quickly and on their own, a gentle outside perspective helps also
On a deeper note this family has all the love in the world to give. One thing you hear often in this home is "con amor" which pretty much sums up the mantra in which this family lives by. I really did feel like another daughter to Eliana and Jose and i think both the girls and I felt the relationship was that of sisterhood, leaving them all broke my heart, but i know it was not a goodbye and simply a “see you later”. Eliana's parents, her brother and a friend of hers I had the pleasure of meeting also showered me with unconditional love . We shared food, opinions, stories, beliefs, fears and honestly everything in between. The biggest lesson I took from this home was that I am enough just as I am, I am worthy of love as are we all, love is not something that has to be earned, or worked for. My stay here was an absolute gift of a lifetime, I learnt, expanded and grew with each day there and will forever be in contact with these beautiful humans. My heart was cracked wide open and ill forever be grateful.
Although I speak a very VERY basic amount of Spanish and Eliana and Jose speak just a little more English then that, communication was never a challenge. in the three weeks I was there Eliana got to know me on a deeper level then most. Amanda and Jade can help with translation too as their English is really good (sometimes they get a bit tired of it though and so I didn't rely on them to translate) if we needed to we would use translate on our mobiles.

… read more they are passionate about. They are also very open-minded to all the things you want to share with them – be it a new dance, your favorite songs, a recipe, learning German in fun ways or DIYs like making bracelets.
My four weeks have passed with the blink of an eye. With Granada you can explore a city that is one of the most beautiful I have been to. You have the vibrant and charming city center on the one hand and the incredible nature on the other hand that welcomes you with tranquility in the moment you step out of the front door. Nothing important was missing during my stay but much after. To all the workawayers who are wondering if they should join that family: Yes, Yes and YES! With this family you find one who opens their arms extra wide for you, who sees you and values your being in the family as a person not only as a workawayer and who you can talk to about everything that weighs upon your heart. Eliana and Jose are great role models for parenting and living life. Living with them meant for me to get inspired and touched by their way of communicating and interacting with each other – full of love, empathy, appreciation & respect. What counts for them also counts for Elianas parents who I spent some days with at their home in Antequera which was such a great experience.
What I found extraordinary remarkable is that the family is genuinely interested how you experience living with them, what you like and maybe don’t like driven by the intention to constantly reflect themselves and learn about you. Living with them also meant learning about me as a person especially because of many pure deep talks with Eliana. I’m pretty sure the world would be a better one if everyone had a Eliana in her life. She’s just wonderful. I leave this family with a filled heart and couldn’t be happier about my choice for that family.

Eliana, Jose, and their two beautiful daughters made me feel right at home nestled in the mountains. The sheer location of their home brought me an immediate sense of peace and serenity, surrounded by the mountains,
… read more a beautiful view of the city, and the sun shining on my face every day. As previous workawayers have described, this experience is a true exchange – in addition to showing me the beauty of the Andalusian landscape and culture, introducing me to their amazing family and friends, and helping me greatly improve my Spanish, these people also really wanted to learn about me – my culture, my passions and joys. Amanda and Jade are two creative, caring, and kind. whom I adore. They are raised by two wonderful parents whose parenting style opened my heart in ways I didn’t expect. I learned so much from simply observing them and their values of love, respect, and compassion.
During my five weeks, I got to meet Eliana’s parents, accompanied the family to birthday parties and other excursions, was brought along to a Biodanza retreat, went to the beach, visited the grand mall of Granada, tasted Eliana and her mother’s delicious arepas, taught the girls music, among many other things. I was also able to take several days for myself to explore Granada and Cordoba.
Many, many, thanks to Eliana, Jose, Amanda, Jade, and all of the people in your community for an unforgettable five weeks. Big hugs!!

Esta familia... no hay palabras para describir esta experiencia y el amor, el cariño, y generosidad de estas personas. Eliana, Jose y sus hijas, quienes son tan lindas, me hicieron parte de la familia rápidamente. La ubicación de su casa me dio una sensación inmediata de paz y tranquilidad, una vista tan bella de la ciudad, y el sol que brilla en mi cara todos los días. Como los workawayers de antes habían descrito, esta experiencia es un intercambio verdadero. Además de mostrarme la belleza de la paisaje y la cultura Andaluz, me presentaron a sus familia y sus amigos, me ayudaron a mejorar muchísimo el español estas personas también querían aprender de mí – mi cultura, mis pasiones y mis alegrías. Amanda y Jade son dos niñas muy creativas, cariñosas y amables, y las amo mucho. Al observer el estilo tan generoso y cariñoso a criar a sus hijas, los padres me han abierto el corazón de una manera que no nunca esperaba. Yo aprendí mucho al observar a ellos y sus valores de amor, respecto y compasión.
Durante mis cinco semanas, yo conocí a los padres de Eliana. yo accompañé la familia a fiestas de cumpleños y otras excursiones, fui al un retiro de Biodanza en las montañas de Málaga, fui a la playa, visité el centro comercial grandísimo de Granada, probé las arepas tan ricas de Eliana y su madre, enseñé música a las niñas y muchas otras cosas. También tomaba varios días personales para explorar Granada y Córdoba.

Our Dear Emily! She came to our home like a breath of fresh air, her fun and sweet energy made her connect quickly with Amanda and Jade, her passion to learn and discover led us to long deep and beautiful conversations.
In a very short time, she became part of us, coming to occupy a very special place in our hearts.

There is a true exchange on both sides. While they let you be a part of their family and their everyday life, they are also eager to learn as much about you and your culture as they can. I am incredibly grateful for all the trips we made, the dancing and singing sessions I had with the girls, the late night talks with Eliana, the Biodanza classes I was welcomed to join as well as the hours we spent baking banana bread.
While we had lots of fun together I also got the chance to explore beautiful Granada and enjoy time alone. They really care about how your are feeling and always make sure to respect your space.
Overall I couldn’t have imagined a better workaway experience and will definitely come back as soon as possible.

This family is the most generous, fun, adventurous, kind-hearted and amazing group of people I have met. It was such a privilege to get to know them for a month. They really make an effort to bring you around to different parts of the city for you to enjoy it and explore as much as you can. They are also very respectful of your needs and space while living with them.
