I stayed with this lovely, friendly and inspiring family in the spring and had such an eye-opening experience about running a small organic farm. I worked here for 1 week with two friends of mine during the school holidays and so we got to know Sam and little Aster too, such adventurous, energetic and sweet children!
During our stay here at the
… read more farm we helped feed the goats and the pigs (there were so many adorable piglets!), watered the plants, weeded the broccoli, helped construct a new chicken coop and goat pen, painted the house... There's so much to do and so much going on here that there will always be something to help with! We started work around 8-9am each day, so we got a good night's sleep too. Every evening the goats needed milking and it was really fun learning how to milk the goats with the machine and also by hand, not to mention learning so much about the fine details of keeping the goats healthy and happy.
Jens and Naïke taught us a great deal about Belgian culture and typical Belgian food. On our last day we ate the typical Belgian stoofvlees with the Belgian twice-planted witloof vegetable, along with delicious home-made frites! All of the food we ate was organic, and lots of it came straight from their farm.
On our days off we visited the beautiful historic Brugge and the beach at the seaside town Ostend, and there is a bus stop right outside the farm which makes travelling around much easier. It costs 3 euros for a 1 hour pass, which got us everywhere we wanted to go to.
It was really inspiring to be around such a busy family with so many ideas which they were putting into action- they are building a shop at their farm to sell all sorts of organic produce, and Jens is renovating a vintage horse-drawn cart to take all the way to Brugge every week to sell food!
We all really enjoyed the experience at the farm, and we wish Jens, Naïki, Sam and Aster all the best for the future.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.
