Hi,
I'm Ines, a 24yo trying to renovate a house with a small budget
My grandparents used to live here but they passed away so this is not just an old house but a loved home. Now we're turning it into student housing (there's a big housing crisis in Portugal now)
The house is in Santo Ovideo next to the subway station but, until there are conditions for volunteers to sleep there (hopefully sooner than later) you're gonna stay at my place. I live with my parents (they speak english) and uncle. We have a dog, cats and chickens. I'm sure you're gonna have a great time with the animals
So yeah, it's a family project. We hope to diy as much as possible and have friends and family helping us to rebuild this home!

Me and my boyfriend are photographers and I also do sound art (my job is location recording and post-production audio). We're interested in permaculture and would like to talk about the subject and learn more (one day we want to build a cob house for us).

I need all the help hahaha. You can come as long as you are proactive we can find something for you to do. Plumbing knowledge might be needed and would be an awesome plus.
We have professionals switching the electricity panel for a more modern safe one and they are gonna verify the safety of the connections in the house
From sanding walls to fixing furniture there's lots of projects and I'll be mainly around (or try to be) when you're working. I can provide dust masks for safety and some old clothes for dirty work.
No volunteers will be on the roof. The work on heights I need help with is fixing/painting the ceiling.
I'd like to build a water collecting system to use on the vegetable garden - almost done!
Regardless safety is important so if you're european you should have you're EU healthcare card or otherwise travel with insurance

At the moment there is no place to shower a the house we're going to be working on so, until then you stay with me at my place, where you'll have a room for yourself. If there are more volunteers I will set up a tent on my yard
There is food available and hot water and maybe... even a pool. Although my house is closer to the beach I'd rather host you at the house we're working on because it's more central and there is the subway so you can quickly get to downtown Porto.
Once we build the facilities at the house you can stay there on one room while we work on the other ones. Because I'll not be living there you'll have food, tea,... but meals wont be a priority for me so you might have to warn me to go grocery shopping
You are welcome to stay one week with us and then, depending on your adjustment to my family and the project, we can agree on an extension of your stay

So the subway is super close. I have a car to get us from my house to the house we're rebuilding. Possibility of rides somewhere and you can also use my bike if you want

I had wouderful time with Ines and her famliy,also other workaway friends.
They provided us with a comfortable place to stay and traditional Portuguese food!
