Descrição
We are a group of friends that shifted two years ago from our conventional jobs in Switzerland to the rural reality in the mountains of Sicily. We are trying (long process) to live sustainably and with regional self-sufficiency. However, we are still improving it. We aim to participate to the vast range of alternatives and create an opportunity for guests to experiment this fantastic way of life.

Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
We are all from different cultural background so we have different thing to offer. We can speak in English,Spanish, French, German and Italian. We are happy to share our knowledge and experience in farming, construction, solar energy, animals, permaculture design, in self sufficiency, but as well how we changed life.
Obviously, we are also really interested to hear from you, your experience, talents and knowledge . -
Ajuda
We have various daily routines with our animals, the gardens, fruit trees, home duties. We also have many manual tasks for the restoration projects and the land diversification in general. We have 15 goats, 42 chickens and 2 dogs.We need to feed, take them out, clean, cuddle and so on
We have all year round productive gardens, so we always have something to do.
We have around 300 fruit trees, so we need to prune, clean, harvest, and bring soil nutrients. Of course, we are also planting new trees.
Everyday, we need to manage electricity as we only have 3 solar panels, we need to harvest veggies and cook, warm the water for hot showers during cold winter, make a fire to maintain a livable temperature in winter and so on. -

Acomodação
As it is only two years we bought the land, we have a rustic guest room with with four comfy beds plus warm wool blankets. In winter it is a bit cold here, so it can be chilly during night . In summer, the temperature is often perfect. We can offer alternative accommodations upon the season. We only use compost toilets with nice view which is outside of the buildings. We have nice hot shower (heating of the water with a stove) in the goat paddock :) The main common room is the kitchen/living room equipped with a nice stove, comfortable spot for cooking and exchange.
We have our own water source with a small swimming pool (shared with some local frogs) but as we are in a mediterranean climate the source can be low so it can be limited in summer. We only have 3 solar panels so limited when cloudy. As we live close to the natural reserve, we are in a very beautiful remote region, with sea view, sunset on the sea (may to September). Even though, there are a few buses coming and going to town, it takes time to reach facilities. For the outdoor lovers, we have many tents and camping mattress, hammocks and 7 hectare of land. We normally cook together a vegetarian meal, depending on the resources we have, we can offer the food in exchange of your participation. We usually adapt to the energy of volunteers and try to find a fair deal. For specific food or needs, we can help with the transportation to shops in town.
Access:
Buses from Catania or Tortorici pass by our land, the stop is close to Restaurant Rinazzo. The last 600m from the main road to our land is a rocky and muddy off-road trail, hard to come up with a normal car. -
Algo mais...
From our place, you can hike the surroundings, views at mother Etna, sea, Nebrodi forests and climb our 1300 m mountain, monte migliosi. Climbing site close by.
