    Descrição

We are Emanuel and Narla (along with our furry friends—Sylvan, Otto, and Leto). We’re a couple dedicated to restoring native forest, living consciously, and creating a space where people can reconnect with nature and themselves through transformational experiences.

Our way of life is deeply rooted in self-sufficiency, homemaking, and a hands-on connection with the land. We are committed to doing as much as we can ourselves, whether it's growing food, caring for animals, or maintaining the land, embracing a lifestyle that honours both sustainability and presence.

Our home is on 71 acres of stunning land with 750m of river frontage, close to national parks and about 40 minutes from Byron Bay. The property is rich in natural beauty, featuring deep swimming holes, diverse wildlife (including platypuses and koalas), and a variety of animals, including dogs, a cat, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, turkeys, and even a very cuddly snake!

Our long-term goal is to develop the property into a retreat centre that hosts groups focused on personal and spiritual growth. While we previously supported a full-time community during lockdowns, we are currently in a phase of improving the site so that it can comfortably accommodate more visitors in the future. Emanuel and Narla the only long-term residents on the property.
We operate as a registered not-for-profit and regularly host nature-based, spiritual, and personal development retreats, as well as charity and community events throughout the year.

We welcome Workawayers who are interested in immersing themselves in nature, learning about land stewardship, and sharing skills in a collaborative way. We see this as a cultural exchange where we can all learn from each other—whether it’s about sustainable living, permaculture, animal care, or personal growth. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and projects such as gardening, general land maintenance, animal care, and our creative adventures.

We place a strong emphasis on clear communication, emotional well-being, and creating a space where people can explore new ways of thinking and living. Our lifestyle is deeply connected to the land, and we love exchanging knowledge with those who are drawn to a similar path. Whether it’s sharing meals, swimming in the river, or having deep conversations under the stars, we hope to create an experience that is as enriching for our visitors as it is for us.

We are part of a vibrant, interconnected community dedicated to transformation through diverse pathways, shamanism, tantra, permaculture, esoteric studies, the arts, conscious relating, and a wide range of therapeutic modalities.

In addition to forestry projects we occasionally host community events on the property and at times are involved in creating installation art.
The project is heavily based in permaculture and we look forward to teaching you about this as part of supporting what we do here.

Living more consciously, making food, milks, yogurts, skin care and natural remedies from home and from scratch, learning about how to live in harmony with the land, the animals and the spirit world.

Esoteric studies are a central theme of our lives and we enjoy many discussion around this topic and can guide those with a more serious interest in the process of initiation.

Our tasks are varied and based on working alongside us to care for the land, gardens, and animals. We see this as a shared learning experience and love matching Workawayers with tasks they enjoy and can excel at.

    Tasks may include:
Assisting with land management, such as tending to gardens, weeding, planting, and helping with reforestation efforts.
Working alongside us on larger tasks like clearing weeds, feeding branches into the wood chipper, and planting/pruning trees.
Helping to maintain and harvest from our large permaculture food garden.
Contributing to creative projects, at times, we have art projects in the works.
Supporting the daily rhythm of our home, such as keeping the Workaway house tidy, cooking, walking dogs, feeding animals, and watering plants.

Note - Any work involving machinery is supervised, and we primarily handle it ourselves.

CURRENT BIG PROJECT - BUILDING NARLA'S TINY HOUSE

    The Work Flow:
8am start time - 4/5 hours a day (depending on weather and heaviness of work)
Monday - Friday, open to discussion and figuring out the best suit.
Some workaways have done 2/3 more full on days and used the other days to go travel the region.
Also, to acknowledge that the work we do is very weather dependant.

We appreciate open communication, letting us know what’s working (or not) helps us make the experience enjoyable for everyone. We have an abundance of tasks, so finding the right fit for you is *chef’s kiss* for us!

Abundant permaculture food garden provides much of the vegetables and some eggs with added dry goods provided as well.

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

We are in a rural area, about 15 minutes by car from the nearest town. It’s preferable that you have your own vehicle, but if not, that’s fine too—just be aware that we only leave the house every few days, so transport options will be limited.

There are buses from Clunes, the closest town, which travel to Byron Bay, Lismore, Mullumbimby, and Nimbin.
If you are arriving by public transport, we recommend heading to Byron Bay if coming from the Gold Coast or Lismore if coming from the Casino train station (for those travelling from Sydney).

Please note that this is NOT a live-in community. While creating community culture is a core purpose of the land, it is not a full-time communal living space.

The atmosphere here varies, sometimes there are multiple Workawayers around, and at other times, it’s very quiet. Most of the time, it’s a peaceful and nature-immersed experience, perfect for those who enjoy solitude, reflection, and nourishment in a tranquil environment.

Occasionally, we host community gatherings and events, and you are more than welcome to join!

    We do NOT host smokers.
