We had a good experience. We where there during winter, and Simona was not there. So we where alone, but we had daily contact with Simona via phone. Incontrare Nicol è stata una bella amicizia una bella condivisione sembrava come se ci conoscevamo da sempre nonostante non era ovviamente cosi' e la lingua differente non è stato quasi mai un ostacolo sicuramente se uno vuole trovare il modo di relazionare lo fa grazie spero tornerai e ci ritroveremo :)

Simona is such an interesting, lovely artist who opened up her home and family to me. She was excellent at communicating and always helped me with transport etc - she has a great network of funny friends who were so kind to me, proper italian ladies...! … read more people, try delicious food and sleep in strange places!! She was so good at teaching me about Palermo's history and culture and always inviting me to music/art/cultural events that were happening around town, but also giving me time to relax alone when i was tired.
The artists residence is remote (plan ahead for limited food nearby) and in winter it is cold at night, and quiet - with no internet some people might prefer summer when there are more projects on. But i liked having time to chill in the gorgeous garden, hang with the goat, reading or sketching. The beach and nature reserves aren't super close, be prepared to walk or hitchhike! But they are so cool! All Simona asks is a few hours of your time to do some random tasks, gardening or cleaning or painting etc, there is not really a set routine and there may be other people in the house. It was different everyday - if you go with the flow, open your mind and be prepared to do anything at any time, you will have a fab, unique experience! Definitely for travelers who enjoy co-housing, art and exploration.
Thank you Simona, I had such a unique experience, lots of fun memories and wish i had more time as it was a whirlwind. I will come back!

Simona has a beautiful soul. She cares about you, and she genuienly has the spirit of an artist.

Super important detail: she does not speak English. If you don't speak Italian, buckle up, because you're in for quite the adventure. However, even if you don't speak a common language, that does not mean your stay there is a waste of time; she'll be kinda able to show you how to get things done. But just be aware that language problems are gonna be present if you don't speak Italian. Also, I think it's good to be prepared that she might not give you clear instructions on how and when to work, so maybe having a good set of organisational skills is something essential to come with. Or just being able to let go of being organised. :D

There was an event where we all sit in a circle and talk about life experience and other importing/interesting stories, shared our feelings and made a screening of my film. Really grateful for that experience.
Also there could be misunderstandings if you don't speak Italian, but for our case it was fine since there would be always some people who could translate.

My experience there was overall bad. No communication: Simona does not speak one word of English. When other Italian and English speakers were around I could understand thanks to them. It was a struggle to first just arrive at her place and reach her. Lack of organisation.

Other than that Simona and Alessandra are very nice and welcoming people and try to help out as much as they can. Ci siamo visti poco in realtà ha avuto contatti con altri componenti della mia famiglia e dell'associazione ma so che ha aiutato e ha contribuito al benessere della residenza d'artista di Fraginesi visto che li le cose sono sempre tante da fare io ero assente per quelle giornate di soggiorno da me ma mi sembra sia andato tutto bene.

Simona is a perfect example of Sicilian hospitality. She was extremely kind and generous with her space. She and her aunt show you the places off the beaten track and meet you with the neighbours, artists, activists from all the community around.

I’m happy to meet many wonderful people through Simona. With her friends we spent time at the beach, went to the thermal spring, the historic site in Segesta, and had many nice gatherings with food and music.
Food is not provided here, we helped everything a bit in exchange of accommodation. The work can be various for example, helping with the art project, preparing food and organizing the place when there were events, picking the branches, tidying the fence in the garden, cleaning or painting and etc. Simona was quite busy and not very organized as she describes herself, so just be flexible and communicable when things changed.
Thank you for everything Simona, especially letting me stay longer than expected due to the pandemic. I stayed in the village for a long time and people welcomed me as part of the big family.
