The family are very nice people who make sure you have everything you need to help out at home.whenever i had a question or needed help Judi and Cem always willing to assist/provide an answer.

Talya and Mira are very cute and smart.They generally play with together and they sleep early at nights.
Work was not difficult just you need to be make sure understand everything very well what Judi's expectations.
I had too much free time to explore San Francisco,Oakland and Berkeley. Judi always gave me very good advises about exploring the area.
I would definitely recommend this family to all volunteers.

… read more experienced with kids at this age. It felt like a crash course in childcare and I got a good insight into their family’s life. I just mention Talya’s birthday party (a big American birthday party with a fairy, piñata and lots of food), a piano and voice recital where the big sister performed and dinner at a Burmese restaurant, but each day was individual and exciting for me. I loved playing with the kids!
Apart from childcare, keeping the dining room and kitchen clean was one of the major tasks, which wasn’t hard work. Once I prepared a typical Bavarian food for them.
Though the parents were busy, they gave me good advice and wanted me to make the best of my stay. So, I had enough time to explore San Francisco and even Oakland and Berkley. Alameda, the place where the family lives, is simply beautiful.. with many many flowers and a great view of San Francisco skyline. I really enjoyed the walking and bike paths. It was a fantastic mixture of nature and city for me. What’s more, I also got to know other workawayers from different countries. It was great to form new friendships and explore the surroundings not only on my own but also with them.
Thank you very much for everything! Since I’ve left, I always have to think of Talya and Mira when I see kids. I miss them! I only wish I could have stayed longer than these 3 ½ weeks, which felt like a nice warm-up. The family was very busy, so I tried to help as much as possible. Judi is very kind and she told me the nice place to visit. She also told me the other workawayer's contact. There is good relationship with neighbors. Talya and Mira have good relationship, so they always play together. They are adorable and energetic. Now I'm learning English, so Talya helped me with teaching many new words.
We exchanged American culture and Japanese culture. I learned Turkish culture too. I was glad that I showed Japanese culture and they like it. We made sushi, okonomiyaki and so on.

Cem, the hostdad, is always in a good mood and joking. He offered me his bike to explore the area, so I was flexible and could do trips on my own.
I am totally in love with the two girls. They are just lovely and cute and made me smiling every day. It was so fascinating to see what they can do independently even in the age of almost 3 and 4. Every day I was waiting for them to finally come home from preschool. The kids made it difficult to say goodbye. I am definitely missing “my” children.
I had a huge bed, a lightly room and a bathroom just for me. I don’t know what to say more. There is not even one negative thing about my stay within this family coming to my mind. I can recommend this family to every workaway who wants to enjoy time in the bay area and wants to get to know a kind family and the American culture.

This is a long overdue recommendation for Sophia. Sophia came to us at a challenging time. A family emergency had forced us to take a sudden trip out of town, so we weren’t even home to welcome her when she arrived. … read more 3 year old allowing me to put our 1 year old to sleep. It was also just after our nanny went on vacation for 6 weeks, so i was piecing together childcare. (Which meant Sophia worked more hours than most of our workaways helping out.) As a result, our kids were a bit off-kilter without their regular caregiver and routine, and our whole family schedule was a bit irregular and unpredictable during this time. Despite that she managed to gain the love & trust of the kids, figure out what we all needed, and was an immense help to us in every way.
She was a huge help around the house. She is impeccably clean and always helped clean and organize the chaos constantly created by our kids. She was always willing to help and step in whenever we needed childcare (which was much more often than usual) or anything else. She is incredibly hard-working, responsible, reliable, and efficient. She always gave everything her 100% effort and attention. When she was with the kids she always focused on them 100%, she was never on her phone or inattentive in any way. I felt completely safe leaving them with her.
It is clear she has a strong work-ethic and any job she takes on she makes sure to do well. I am certain she will be successful in any task she chooses. She is also a lovely and thoughtful person, who is a pleasure to have in your home. She is intelligent and interesting, as well as a good listener and generally caring person I highly recommend her, and would be delighted to host her again any time.

She is also very responsible and hard-working. She went above and beyond what we asked her to do and was always helpful and willing to do anything she could to help around the house and with the kids. Coming in to our chaotic house with a baby and toddler is not easy, especially with a language barrier, but she didn’t let that deter her, and by the end of her stay here she knew our routines and needs so well, that when we had a new nanny it was actually Ophelie who was training her and teaching her about our children’s needs and routines. I highly recommend her to have in your home or for any job, she is kind, caring, honest, responsible, and hard working. We all grew to care about Ophelie so much and miss her. The children still ask about her and want to skype and facetime with her. We feel like she is a part of our family and hope to stay in touch a long time.

… read more hard for me to share an experience. Mira is really cute, but Talya is a little spoiled, and bossy. I found that Judi was talking to everyone in a rude way, so I was not comfortable in this home, because I felt like I was always annoying her.
The family is very busy, so it's not easy to take some time to speak.
But the area is really nice, you can have a bike to explore the town and SF is close.
It seems like I'm the only one though, so maybe our expectations were too different !

I've stayed with this family for about two months in spring of 2015 and what can I say, I definitely couldn't have had it any better!
First of all, they are all incredibly kind and loving and almost instantly made me feel like part of the family. Both parents are super friendly, helpful and reliable.They took me to Palo Alto, helped me a lot
… read more with making plans, I got a chance to meet their friends and relatives and I even experienced two wonderful and very interesting Passover Seders. They are both well traveled and educated, so I could talk with them about everything, from economy and politics to the everyday life in America. I really learned a lot from those discussions. And since the dad is from Turkey I’ve learned not only about the American culture, but also about the Turkish culture as well. I’ve even picked up a few turkish words from the children!
Speaking of, I have only positive things to say about them. The 3 year old is a sunshine who is interested in everything, very energetic and loves talking, which is amazing for practicing English. The 1 1/2 year old is super lovely, always smiling and very independent. And even though I wasn’t around the 11 year old that much, I can definitely say, she’s very nice, adored by her sisters and she plays soccer amazingly well!
I also want to mention that although I didn't have much experience with caring for children that young, I never felt overwhelmed. The parents explained everything very well, and if I had questions I could always ask them or the amazing and very experienced nanny, who was there almost every day.
The area they are living in is incredibly beautiful and the Bay Area and San Francisco itself are pretty awesome in general. There is always something to do, or people to meet there.
I made some wonderful memories in the time I stayed with them and hope to come back one day!

My mission, as said above, was to be the "mother's helper". I was in charge of childcare, light cooking sometimes and cleaning from time to time when the parents were working and the most often in the weekends and in the evenings. I had a lot of free time to visit and enjoy the city (the view on the bay is incredible if you walk around the house) and San Francisco ! I made some friends in the neighborhood because there are often others Workaways as me with who I did a lot of different activities (walking, go shopping, visit the area...)
The area is really nice and I will never forget this experience because I couldn't come in a best family as them. During my stay I made very beautiful meetings which I shall never forget !
