Hey there, we are JonJon and Hanna :)
JonJon is a Filipino, born and raised, but a traveller at heart. He has lived in many places all over the Philippines but about 10 years ago, he made the beautiful island of Malapascua his base. Since then, he’s created many projects and ideas here to help build community like Medical Missions, Feeding Programs for children, eco projects etc. and he found his calling 🤗.
In July 2023, I (Hanna) came to Malapascua for a few days of scuba diving, but when I met JonJon on my first day, everything changed 😅.
Within my first week we started a Clean-up project called “GreenUp Malapascua” focusing on education, awareness and of course, direct action and Clean-ups. It is a combination of picking up the already existing trash on the island and building systems to reduce waste in the future 🌱.
To create a space for like-minded people and our volunteers for the project, we started building bamboo huts behind JonJons Vegan/vegetarian restaurant, which then turned into a full-grown eco accommodation. 🛖.
Fortunately enough, we’ve had a wonderful start and first season and met so many wonderful travelers who loved and contributed to our space. But we still have so many ideas how to increase the experience of our guests and volunteers and, let’s be honest, a lot of projects that were ambitiously started but not properly finished 😂
Now, as the high season on Malapascua is slowly coming to an end, we want to focus on finishing, repairing and upgrading our beautiful community accommodation and also get back on track with our clean-up project.
That's why we’re looking for motivated, skilled people who want to help us with art, crafts, painting and also help with cleaning our beautiful island 🏝️.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

Filipino culture (tribal culture) is something very close to our hearts, which is why we make education and awareness around it part of our accommodations’ concept. All our huts are named after tribes in the Philippines and have some decorations from them. We are working on a photo and art project that you might be able to help us with, when you’re here ☺️.
Aside from that, Malapascua is a very multi-cultural island with travellers coming from all over the world 🌏. All the resorts and restaurants are within the village of locals, so you are automatically part of the day-to-day local culture. And all of our staff are Filipino and speak the local language Visayas (and some also speak Tagalog, the official language of the Philippines) 🇵🇭.
Every Saturday at 1pm we have a Feeding Programm for the children of the island, where we teach them music, art, singing, Yoga, Mediation and sustainability. At the end we have some food and juice for them too ☺️. You are more than welcome to join us for that while you’re here.
I should also mention that JonJon is an Artist, Musician, DJ and Fire-Dancer and has many like-minded artistic friends around. At his restaurant there is live-music or performance almost every day and we are more than happy to teach you different instruments, arts and crafts like drums, making dreamcatchers, jewellery or even Poi, Ecstatic Dance and Firedancing 💃🏻🔥🎭🪘. And you are also more than welcome to play, sing and perform with us - if you already have some skills in that.Projetos que envolvem crianças

> for this last one you’d be working with me, Hanna, in particular. JonJon is more the hands-on-guy in this project and everything online is my part. But I seem to always be drowning in tasks so I’d really appreciate having some help with that 🙈
When applying for our project, please tell us which of these skills in particular you have, so we can match people up well for our current projects 😉Idiomas

Part of our accommodation: 2 'tent”-huts, good for 1 person each and we also have a 2-person dorm. These would be places for you to stay. All of them have electricity, outlets, a fan and a mosquito net.
We have 2 outdoor showers and toilets, just next to your huts. And since all our other huts have their own private bathroom, they will be used almost exclusively by you 😉.
For 3hrs of work a day you get free accommodation and for 4hrs we also include free lunch and free rice.
If you stay a whole week, work is only 5 days a week, so you get Saturday and one other day of your choice off.
Our accommodation also has a big kitchen that you can cook in and we provide you with some storage to store your ingredients. We also offer free water & homemade tribal ginger tea and sometimes we also have dinners together (with our guests) and fun evening hangouts. We are like family at our accommodation so we hope you feel right at home with us 🤗.
Just outside the accommodation right by the beach, is JonJon’s Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant with amazing and affordable food. There is live music every day until 10pm - from either local artists or our tribal jam sessions with lots of drums and native instruments 🪘.Algo mais...
Malapascua is a beautiful island with a super chill and cozy vibe. There are plenty of bars to have a drink, hang out with like-minded people but also spent some quiet time by the beach.
It’s especially popular amongst divers because it’s one of the best (and few) places in the world, where you can dive with Thresher Sharks. But there are many beautiful dive sites around too - so if you are a diver, you will LOVE this island for sure! And if not, you could either consider getting your license here (it’s truly such a magical place for diving) or just go swimming and snorkelling with plenty baby sharks 5mins walk from the restaurant :) There are also many beaches all over the island - if you prefer a bit of life, stay in the South or go to the North for some quiet time.
Malapsacua might be small, but people have been known to extend their stay for weeks, months or even years because it’s just such a nice place to live 🤗
How to get here?
Malapascua is located in the north of Cebu island about 3-5h from Cebu City, depending on your style of transport. It's super easy to get to Malapascua from Cebu City by car, motorcycle, Minivan or public bus (from North Bus terminal) and then a short boat ride (from Maya port). And if you need any help, just tell us where you're coming from and we can help you get here 😉Mais alguns detalhes

Digital Nomads are always welcome :) In fact, I am one myself and have been working online here for many months. Both the restaurant and our accommodation have good wifi. With that being said, we have had some issues with power-outs (brown outs) on the island recently... we hope it gets resolved soon.

There are many dogs on the island, so most people here are already very used to animals and pets being around. We also have a dog, Galaxy, and there usually at least 2-4 more dogs and cats on our property.

We helped them get set up for a consistent flow of volunteers - signs for the base camp as well as four the recycling bins around the island. And we made a compost area that I'm sure will get plenty of use.
