    Hi there!
We are a nonprofit summer and outdoor education camp in beautiful Michigan, United States. Our goal is to offer amazing experiences that participants can't find anywhere else, while teaching valuable life lessons that everyone can use everywhere they go. The campus offers a high ropes course, zipline, climbing walls, giant pendulum swing, lakefront activities including an inflatable trampoline and canoeing, and 101 acres of fields, forests and wetlands for explorations, games, camping, etc.
While continuing to emphasize the adventure activities that we can offer here, we are increasingly focusing on the STEM subjects, and practical life skills like gardening, working with renewable resources, and cooking.
We are vegetarian and vegan friendly, and can provide food that is free of dairy, gluten, and other allergens. Don't worry, there will be plenty of meat and bread for those who want it!

We host helpers from all over the United States and abroad, all in the small Michigan town of Reading, Michigan, with its own local culture. Travelers will have the opportunity to work, play, and talk with people from many different backgrounds, as well as learn about and enjoy the unique culture of rural Michigan, with lots of campfires, boating, burgers and BBQ, and picturesque landscapes. We will provide free training and certification to good candidates in things like lifeguarding, CPR, high ropes safety, and more, as well as free housing, meals, and access to all of the amazing activities and facilities we have here!
If you're working on the English language, there will be lots of time to practice with native speakers from all over the country who come here to live and work. The program director here (that's me!) loves learning new languages and will take time to practice with you as a language exchange.

Because we are a large camp offering many different types of programs, there are many ways you can help!
Some of the greatest needs include spending time with kids and making sure they have a safe, fun experience at camp, teaching classes about nature and life skills (we will train you how to teach these classes!), and cooking delicious, healthy meals for participants and staff.
We request a minimum stay of one month and prefer a stay of approximately 2 1/2 months. We have an outdoor education program that runs from March 14 (training) until June 3, and preference will be given to volunteers who can stay through that entire period of time. Our summer program runs from May 30 - August 18, and preference will be given to volunteers who can stay for that entire time frame.
We welcome special talents and interests including art, music, gardening, and building. Tell us what you are good at and we will try to find a way to let your strengths shine while supporting the camp program as a whole!

We offer paid staff positions for those who can legally work and be paid in the US.

There are no costs associated with volunteering here. Housing and meals are free, and someone will pick you up at the nearest Amtrak train station (Albion, Michigan or Waterloo, Indiana) for free. There will be limited free pickups in Detroit (one day before the start of each season).

Before being fully accepted as a volunteer, you will need to provide a background check or official government-issued statement of good legal standing from your usual place of residence (most European countries provide this for free or extremely inexpensively to their citizens upon request, and we will help you look into your country's procedure if you need help. For US citizens, the background check is issued by each state and all we need is a completed permission form to run the check and a photocopy of your government-issued photo ID). This does not mean we will turn you away for a traffic violation or other minor issues. We need to confirm that each of our staff and volunteers can safely work around children.

We also need three positive references before you work or volunteer here, for similar reasons. References can be anyone who knows you but is not a family member.

  • Algo mais...

    Algo mais...

Our campus is full of fun activities and great facilities, including a high ropes course, climbing wall, giant swing, waterfront, inflatable iceberg and trampoline, canoes, forests, camping and cabins, field games, etc... There is lots to enjoy without ever leaving campus!
Surrounding southern Michigan is home to forests, fields, lakes, rivers, farmland, etc, and is perfect for people who love nature. Just a couple of hours away is Lake Michigan, a freshwater lake so large is looks like an ocean, but as we say here in Michigan, is unsalted and shark-free! On weekends, trips to local attractions may be possible using transportation provided by us. Whitewater rafting in West Virginia as part of a special trip may be possible.
