After a particularly busy period balancing work and family duties, we’re excited to be hosting again in our usual calm and friendly atmosphere. We are looking for help until 22nd November 2025 and from 15th February 2026 onwards with: Refreshing painting inside and outside — we welcome a handy “Harry” or “Harriet” Garden work — cleaning up the garden after the summer season and the annual trimming of hedges and boxwood. We’re looking forward to welcoming volunteers with positive energy, a love for nature, and a hands-on spirit.

We are a Belgian family who have been living in France for 20 years. We’re in our late fifties and speak French, Dutch, English, and a bit of Spanish and German. We love meeting people from all over the world, especially those who are motivated, independent, and enjoy both helping and having their own space. We provide your own private living space, so you can manage tasks at your own pace and enjoy your time in peace. Hosting all year round, we truly appreciate self-sufficient volunteers who can take initiative and adapt to daily rhythms.

Our region, Lot-et-Garonne, is a beautiful rural area full of history, nestled between Bordeaux and Toulouse, with influences from Guyenne and Languedoc. In summer, you can enjoy marchés gourmands, medieval festivals, concerts, and more. We’ll share a link with a touristic video when you contact us.

We live in a large, charming traditional house on the edge of a small village, set on an 18-hectare riverside property — perfect for nature lovers.

The help we usually need is varied but not difficult: vacuuming, mopping, dusting, laundry, ironing, light garden work such as weeding or watering plants, and small DIY chores. We also have ongoing winterprojects like artistic hallway painting and general renovation. We especially welcome handy volunteers or couples — the perfect combination of DIY skills and independent daily support!

Although we love pets, we cannot host volunteers with their own animals, as we have pets ourselves. My home office job involves frequent calls, so a calm, independent environment works best.

Experience life in rural South West France in a beautiful, unspoiled area ideal for exploring, hiking, and enjoying nature. You’ll stay with a French-Belgian family who has been living here for 20 years, giving you a unique perspective on rural French life through the eyes of long-term residents with Belgian roots.

Volunteers with some basic French will find plenty of opportunities to improve their skills naturally, through daily interactions, helping with house and garden projects, and participating in local activities, markets, and festivals. It’s a hands-on way to discover the region’s medieval villages, rivers, and beautiful landscapes, while practicing the language in a relaxed, immersive environment.

Along the way, you’ll also enjoy quiet time in nature, riverside walks, and learning about both Belgian and French traditions in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

We love welcoming volunteers into our household, but everyone has their own private camper-living space and a small surrounding garden area for independence. While we enjoy sharing occasional meals or experiences, we don’t fully integrate volunteers into our family or social circles, as this can sometimes create extra, mutual obligations. Over our seven years of hosting, we’ve found that giving volunteers autonomy outside of their scheduled help hours allows them to enjoy personal time, relax, and fully appreciate their stay—especially when multiple volunteers are here at once. Your help is expected during set hours, and outside of that, your camper area and garden space are yours to unwind, explore, or enjoy the surroundings.

We welcome help throughout the year, though we prefer volunteers who can stay for a minimum of two to four weeks. We usually ask for around 5 hours of help per day, five days a week. As I have a demanding home-based work situation, we especially value reliable and autonomous helpers who can manage tasks independently.

We appreciate enthusiasm in your work, but please consult us before starting any tasks, as we live here permanently and want to ensure everything aligns with our home and garden plans.

Our household includes two large dogs and three horses, so you must be comfortable around animals. We cannot host volunteers with their own pets, as your private space is not ideal for pets and coexistence with our animals could interfere with my work calls.

To enjoy your stay with us, you should also appreciate spending time on your own — reading, meditating, hiking, riding, or simply relaxing. Our property is peaceful, and we are looking for responsible people with a love for animals and respect for nature.

Before applying, please carefully review the profile and explain why you think you would be a good fit, including your relevant experiences. This helps us better understand your motivation and suitability.

Before confirming a placement, we always prefer a live chat via Teams or WhatsApp so we can mutually discuss expectations. We’ve found this creates the best win-win situations for both hosts and volunteers.

We offer a “Living Camper”, a fully equipped private space designed for comfort and independence. Pictures are available after an initial interview. It is a well-insulated and heated mobile home, re-equipped for your stay — please keep in mind it is still camping-style and not a conventional house. The camper is located in our garden, close to the main house, with a lovely riverside view.

Your private space includes: A double bed - Satellite TV and free internet - Kitchenette with oven and a fully stocked fridge-private shower and WC - A small, discreet terrace with sunchairs, BBQ and gaz cooker. While we often share meals together, you are expected to prepare your own breakfast and some meals. We provide a basic food package from day one and organize regular shopping based on your personal preferences.

The camper area, located on our large 18-hectare riverside property, provides a private spot where you can relax, read, fish, enjoy a glass of wine, or simply soak up the sun. Outdoor activities such as horse riding, kayaking, and golfing are available nearby, all within about 5 km (3 miles) from the house.

If you don’t have your own transport, a bike is available for your use, with direct access to the regional green path leading to the nearest town. Public transport, shops, restaurants, bars, cinema, and other services are all about 5 km (3 miles) from the house, easily reachable by bike or local connections. From time to time, when possible, we can offer a ride to help you reach nearby places or excursions.

Create your own perfect itinerary — explore medieval castles, kayak along the river, taste award-winning wines, or simply unwind in the peaceful countryside.

-Discovering Lot and Garonne : The Lot and Garonne is a welcoming region of around 300,000 inhabitants, surrounded by the Périgord and Dordogne to the northeast, the Landes to the southwest, the Gers to the south, and conveniently connected to Bordeaux and Toulouse by the A62 motorway passing through Agen. Explore its treasures at your own pace: cycle through scenic countryside, walk along quiet trails, or sail on more than 200 km of rivers and canals. Water sports are particularly popular in the Lot Valley, and rugby fans will love the region’s passion for the sport. This is a land of gentle hills and fertile plains, where the Lot and Garonne Rivers meet at Aiguillon. Known for its rich soil and agricultural heritage, the area produces Agen prunes, Buzet and Duras wines, tomatoes, melons, strawberries, and asparagus — earning its title as the most productive farming region in Aquitaine.

-A Region with a Rich History : Steeped in history, the Lot and Garonne gave birth to Henri IV and Jeanne d’Albret. Positioned between Bordeaux and Toulouse, and between Guyenne and Languedoc, the region has long been influenced by diverse cultures and rulers. Once part of Aquitaine, Agenais became a battleground between the Kings of France and England, with borders that shifted over time — sometimes under Toulouse, sometimes Bordeaux, and often shaped by the powerful Albret family of Nérac. For centuries, the Garonne River served as a natural dividing line between north and south. Under Louis XI, Agenais was officially aligned with Bordeaux and the government of Guyenne. The present borders of Lot and Garonne were established in 1808, when Tarn-et-Garonne was created to the southeast. Even the choice of the capital was debated — Aiguillon boasted its perfect position at the confluence of the Lot and Garonne Rivers, but Agen was ultimately chosen for its historic and cultural importance.

In short, the Lot-et-Garonne and Southwest France offer a unique blend of beauty, authenticity, and tranquility — a true paradise for lovers of nature, history, and good living.

After a few hours of helping out, slow down and savour the real Southwest of France — the fresh flavours of local produce, the warmth of the people, and the peaceful charm of the countryside.

We share our home with three dogs, who are very much part of the family. Our two Great Danes are true gentle giants — affectionate and calm — but they mostly stay outdoors, enjoying the space around the house. Our daughter her little 15-year-old Chihuahua is sweet, quiet, and loves company.
