Hey, my name is Tamás.
I am an enthusiastic outdoor person from Hungary. My main profession is architecture, but I am also a certified snowboard instructor. 🏂

In my free-time I mostly attempt to be in nature, especially mountains, hiking, doing sports, traveling & photographing📷.
And I also enjoy to meet new people, get to know other cultures and cuisines:)
Because of my dedication for snowboarding and ski-touring, I consider sustainability and recycling to tackle climate change seriously important in our life. 🌍

Before Workaway, I was a maintenance and chauffeur at the Finnish embassy for parttime. Now I am over 8 different volunteering, mostly in the Alps, Norway and Japan. 🇦🇹🇨🇭🇳🇴 🇯🇵

I am interested in getting back / improving my german language skills. (not only Hochdeutsch 🇦🇹🇨🇭) 🇬🇧My english is pretty much fluent by now, nevertheless always see possibility in improving.:) Also want to learn the local languages, at least the basics, where ever I travel.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

📐I have experience in many different fields, since as an architect I was always interested in trying different pursuits.
🛠Thanks to my dad, even from my childhood I loved to do DIY stuffs, later also did and helped with renovations to accomplish. (both planning and executing)
👷🏻‍♂️While my internships I also participated in major constructions in Budapest, got practical experience on really different projects in scale and type too.
🪴I grew up in a detached house, (my parents has a huge garden with grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers, apple & pear trees, used to have animals) so I have some gardening knowledge, and I like to care of plants and animals.
🐄Update: Since I've spent many weeks at homesteads & farms, with variable kind of animals, I have considerable knowledge with Livestock (cows, horses, hens, pigs etc.:)

🥘Moreover I also worked for few months in two restaurants, in Austrian Alps, and in Helsinki. In 2023 I spent 2 months at a Mountain Retreat as my first Workaway,
(kitchenhelper and cook positions)

📊🏔Before my graduation I was working as a salesperson in the mountain department in Decathlon.
Therefore and also regarding over a year architectural teamwork, teaching snowboarding I have pretty good communication skills.
My other main abilities are: high work ethic, precision, creativity and great adaptability:)

I have worked in kitchen before, but I also like to cook at home even just myself, and always try something new. When I have time I like to read and listen to music. 📖 🎼
🗺When I think about traveling, mostly I have a certain mindset about the ways to do it, and it differs from the mainstream/popular methods. I prefer to visit more remote places, try to avoid cliches and most importantly choose the least harmful (for the nature) transportation method.
🏞I also had a "Into the Wild" type of adventure, which opened my eyes about fundamental values for life, and gave me a huuuge mental motivation. I'd like to speak more about that, but it's highly emotional and long story, could be better in person through a hosting.;)

From the moment he arrived, it was evident that we had welcomed an exceptional Workawayer into our midst. Tamas's dedication, skills, and positive attitude left an indelible mark on our hearts and our home.

Our beloved feathery friends had been facing a constant threat from wandering canines, and Tamas's innovative solutions have now provided them with a safe haven. His meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful approach made the project a resounding success.

But that was just the beginning of Tamas's talents. He fearlessly immersed himself in several other initiatives, each completed with the same level of enthusiasm and proficiency. Whether it was gardening, renovating, or assisting with household chores, Tamas showed a genuine passion for learning new skills and a determination to make a positive impact.

Beyond his practical abilities, Tamas was a joy to have around. He exuded positivity and warmth, always ready with a friendly smile and a willingness to lend a helping hand wherever needed. His positive energy uplifted the entire community, bringing us closer together and fostering an environment of collaboration and camaraderie.

Moreover, Tamas proved to be an excellent communicator, not only taking the time to understand our needs but also sharing his own experiences and insights. Conversations with him were engaging and enlightening, enriching our cultural exchange and broadening our horizons.

Tamas also demonstrated great respect for our community's values and traditions. His eagerness to embrace our way of life and immerse himself in our local customs was truly heartwarming.

In summary, Tamas's time with us was nothing short of exceptional. He left a lasting impression on our community, and we are immensely grateful for the positive impact he made. If we have the chance to host Tamas as a Workawayer again, we would not hesitate to welcome him with open arms. His skills, passion, and amiable personality will undoubtedly be a significant asset to any project or community fortunate enough to have him.

It was a real pleasure to have tamas. We did lots off work out in the field. He did some big hikes as well. I am sorry that he could not use his splittboard because the snow had all gone, and it was too dangerous to go far up. Maybe we will see you again at some snowier times👀

Well, where can I start... This was my first Workaway experience, I don't know could have been it even a better start:) I spent 8 weeks in total, in the high winter season, despite we didn't have the best snow conditions (sadface, global warming), but still I had the best winter experience ever in my life !! I was always in love with the mountains … read more & nature,
This area is truly marvelous, now wonder why they call Kals (am Grossglockner) a hidden jam, cannot describe it better!

Sophie who contacted me, Xania & Craig (the owners), made possible for me to be literally in the Alps, at high altitude, be active and do winter sports every day, eat super healthy. Last means mainly vegan dishes, gladly turned me away from meat based diet, here I only ate eggs, cheese some times, and didn't really miss those fatty parts... thanks to Alessia, our vegan chef :))

I was doing quite many different tasks during the week, with proper work feeling, but didn't mind, and the schedule was usually pretty clear, in advance! I even enjoyed some chores, like heating up the hot tub or helping out in the kitchen, and had chance to drive the crazy LandRover too! In my freetime, I could join also the really helpful yoga classes, afternoon to the inversion classes (this was big surprise for me!) sometimes hikes or other programs with the guests.

Speaking of guests, we had every week a new groups, always super nice people from around the world, almost without exception ! Everyone was friendly, and interested in other cultures, I can gladly say, had a great time with the guests too:) Nevertheless, most importantly I spent this approx 2 months with 6 wonderful human beings , meaning 3 couples from GermanyItalyBritain, meaning our staff :D
And least but not last, Zora the keeper of the calmness and cuteness for the house ;) Quite many memories, including some what I will never forget, for example that few days with "our" bridge torn down by an avalanche in Febr..:O I improved in stamina, snowboard and hopefully splitboard skills too.. Thank you Craig for knowledge and patience! Also lost some weight, after this trip I felt way more healthier and fresh in my body.

I couldn't write too shortly, sorry, I bet still left out lot of points :D All in all, I was surrounded with open minded people, with great personalities, so I recommend to join, either winter time or summer time ( I kinda looking for the last one, can be wonderful) Specially for people, who don't mind to be in a remote place (its a mountain retreat afterall) and sometimes work with guests, and have little more tight schedule and proper chores. Thank you again Sophie, to findingchoosing me in 2023, January & February.
