Hi! I'm Susannah, a writer and educator living in Philadelphia. I work at an elementary school and enjoy traveling during my summer break. I'm looking for a 1- to 2-month stay between roughly July 7 and August 29.
I love animals, backpacking, and the outdoors. I am curious about working in ecology, wildlife conservation, field research, or science education, and would love to find a WorkAway that would allow me to explore these interests. I'm also interested in gardening, farming, and hospitality work. Mainly, I want to spend a ton of time outside, go for hikes, make connections with other people, learn the local language and culture, write and make art, and pick up new skills.
I'm calm, patient, curious, and reliable, always willing to try something new. I love a challenge and am not afraid to work hard!Centres d’intérêt

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I'm open to many different kinds of work - farming, hospitality, cleaning - even if it doesn't match what I've done in the past, I'm interested in learning it.
While WWOOFing in New York State, I weeded vegetable beds, harvested garlic and onions, fed animals (ducks, chickens, pigs, donkeys, goats), transplanted tomatoes, cleared debris from trails and camping sites, transported hay, and removed nails from a house under construction. I also had a job as a theater technician in college where I moved seating and did some light set construction.
I've spent a total of 3 years working in bookstores, so I can do customer service and inventory management. I regularly lifted and unpacked boxes, processed orders, cleaned the store, and organized shelves. For a year and a half I worked at a lovely little independent bookstore where the owners routinely entrusted me with opening up, closing, and manning the shop alone.
I'm pretty organized and could tidy/sort through paperwork or online files as well as physical spaces. If you need it, I could probably help set up a filing system or storage method to keep things tidy in the future.
I love to bake, and would be delighted to cook vegetarian/pescetarian meals. I eat meat myself, but am not experienced in cooking it.
I love working with kids age 5 and up. At my current job, I work with third grade in an after-school program, substitute teach, run a creative writing club, do language arts programming, and lead an informal theater workshop where the kids get to devise and perform their own plays.
I'm a writer with a degree in English. I've done some freelance proofreading and editing in the past and could write or edit content, website material, etc.
I would LOVE to work with animals and learn more about caring for them (including the icky parts!).
I also love any visually creative work - I'm no expert artist, but I can paint, do calligraphy/lettering, and generally make things like signage look nice.Âge

Autres infos...
I'm a big fan of board games!
I'm fine with being in remote places, as long as I can walk or get rides to a nearby village from time to time, since I don't have a car.
I love camping, backpacking, and thru-hiking, and am comfy with pretty rustic accommodations, so long as I can prepare in advance.
If provided with a kitchen and supplies, I would be delighted to bake cookies, brownies, and other sweet treats to share.Informations complémentaires
