Hi, I'm Kathryn I really love spending time in nature, meeting new people and learning about new places and different cultures. I'm genuinely curious about different ways of living and different places that I haven't yet been to. I'm excited to be part of projects that are meaningful and productive, contributing towards something. I think the biggest thing for me though is meeting and spending time with new people who I wouldn't ordinarily have the chance to meet. Also learning about them, how they live and enjoy life and sharing my own experiences too.

I live in the UK where I work as a researcher in the government - I have a natural curiosity for how things work! I own my own home which I take a lot of pride in keeping well maintained. I love animals, by far and away my favourites are cats :)

I'm learning French (it's a long slow road for me) and would really love to immerse myself in French life and practise speaking and understanding the language as much as possible.

I’m fluent in English (my native language) and am really happy to teach my language to anyone interested to practise it. I’ve been trying to learn French for what seems like ages! I’d love to spend time with people who are happy to help me advance my grasp of the language, as well as teach me more about French life and culture.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I’m really passionate about learning through hands-on experiences. I’ve been lucky enough to own my house with a garden for several years and so I have practical experience of home and garden maintenance and improvements. I like to garden (laying turf, planting, weeding, laying paving, looking after plants). I also enjoy old furniture and restoring small pieces, sanding, staining etc.

I love to be outdoors in nature and find it peaceful and generally good for the soul.

I’m also super experienced with children. I have 2 of my own, aged 18 and 7 (they don’t travel with me for workaway) so am used to entertaining them, feeding fussy eaters, finding fun things to do. Children are awesome! I also have experience of looking after children with special education, and emotional needs.

I love to maintain a house; things such as cleaning, painting, small repair jobs and am generally a clean and tidy person. I’m not afraid of hard work.

I have a lot of experience in looking after a swimming pool and am skilled at cleaning a pool and its filters.

I can drive a car (automatic and manual) and have had a full UK licence for absolutely ages (30+ years) .

I would be really happy to contribute, learn even more, and support hosts wherever I can. I’m reliable, curious, and always willing to give things a try.

Things I’m interested in (not so much hobbies just more about how I prefer to spend my time) include sharing meals, having interesting chats, laughing, being generally relaxed and happy.

I like board games, I'm well educated but totally rubbish at general knowledge quizzes; they make me tense! I drink (wine or sometimes a beer) but hardly ever, and mostly only with meals if others are drinking too.

I'm not religious but do respect others' religious beliefs and am interested in knowing about different religions, as well as philosophy. I also like art and architecture.

To relax alone, I like to spend time sitting/walking in nature, or at night watching a film on my laptop, listening to podcasts. I’m also a fan of a good nights sleep and like to wake up early :)
