Description
This is a regenerative restoration/reforestation project in its early stages situated in Alentejo, Portugal between Alcácer do Sal and Montemor-o-Novo.
We are inspired by, experiment with, and apply multidisciplinary techniques taken from ancient practices around the world, as well as many others, including holistic management, rewilding, permaculture, and others.
We have a diverse background, having lived and worked in different countries, ultimately choosing Portugal as our base.
We both come from the arts/culture field and are newbies at working with the earth. We make up for that by being incessantly curious and avid learners. We consult with local and international experts regularly as we try to bring our vision for this place to life and ultimately create a safe haven for creative types.
As former Workawayers, we look forward to hosting and welcoming kindred spirits who can lend us a hand along the way.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

We are a multicultural couple with an extensive and diverse background, especially in arts and culture. We've been studying permaculture and other regenerative disciplines while living and volunteering in different countries for a few years and now we finally have a chance to try it all in practice.
We hold regular workshops and discussions on different relevant subjects as we design and implement these concepts around the land which volunteers can benefit from while experiencing the Alentejo way of life at its finest.Aide
There are established buildings, trees, vegetation, and a big pond on the property that all need some love in one way or another.
We are also working on new earthworks, implementing water catchments and swales, etc.
General help is needed in all areas, and physical fitness and agility are a must.
Priority is given to volunteers with experience or strong interest in the following fields:
-Regenerative farming activities/tree care & soil management
-Carpentry
-General repairs and maintenance
-Natural building techniques/material prep
- DIY Projects
- Wood working
- Healthy cooking for groups
There are also lots of other tasks around the place for those who cannot contribute to the above, so do not hesitate to get in touch.
Volunteers are expected to work at least 5 hours per day 5 days a week. Working hours vary with the season. Early mornings are a must in the warmer months and are arranged so that the heat can be avoided as much as possible.
Projects and schedules change constantly depending on what we need to focus on at any given time.
Be sure to get in touch with us even if your skills are not listed above!

We have different options available for volunteers. There is a one-bedroom unit with a queen bed and 3 single beds, a shared bathroom with a tub and shower, and a shared kitchen for 3-5 volunteers, as well as an ensuite studio.
There’s also ample space on the land for more volunteers with their own campers/tents.There is a working cold outdoor shower and other shared facilities.
We provide breakfast and dinner and a lighter meal around lunchtime. The food is simple and healthy, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, often featuring international recipes.
Laundry and grocery shopping are done once a week.
The arrival and departure days of volunteers are counted as off days.Autres infos...
This project sits on a beautiful abandoned property in Alentejo, only 75 minutes from Lisbon and 40 minutes from the beautiful Comporta beach. There is a stunning lake about 7 km away from us that they can easily drive/bike to on their days off, and many charming Alentejo villages, towns, trails, and hikes nearby to explore. Evora, the cultural capital of Portugal, is also only 40 minutes away and well worth a visit.
This is an eco-project in its infancy and in a fragile state. We expect volunteers and visitors to respect the intricate water/wildlife system that we are trying to restore.
As such, volunteers are expected to avoid using commercial/chemical/synthethic shampoos/cleansers/sunblocks and other personal care products and to manage their plastic waste responsibly and off premises.
We also expect everyone to handle things with care and be mindful of keeping both the indoor and outdoor spaces clean, tidy, and pleasant for everyone. This is common courtesy, not part of shared chores or the working hours.
We suggest a 5-day trial for those intending to stay longer than 2 weeks.Informations complémentaires
