Hi,

I'm Jack. I'm a 26 year old from New Zealand. I'm currently working here in Wellington as a software developer. I'm looking to take a year or so to work and travel. I'm using Workaway to find opportunities for work overseas.

I am particularly looking at Workaway in Japan. I've spent a while studying Japanese and would like to take the time to put my language skills to the test and immerse myself in the language and culture. I particularly like Japan because I really like living in well planned cities with great options for people who don't have a car which Japan has a lot of and New Zealand sadly lacks in :(

I consider myself a fairly adventurous person. I'm always down to try new experiences. In the past I have extensively traveled through Asia on my own. This was my first time leaving New Zealand and I still was excited to get out of my shell and make a lot of new friends. On top of this I have also done trips through New Zealand, Australia and USA.

In my free time I like to exercise a lot (weights, running, boxing), go hiking/camping, play video games, watch TV, spend time with my friends, eat yummy foods and learn new languages (Japanese, Spanish).

I have an intermediate level understanding of Japanese. I would like to use my time in Japan to use and improve my Japanese language skills by being immersed. Growing up in New Zealand, I am also a native fluent English speaker. I would be interested in either teaching English or doing language exchange with people who want to learn English.

I have a bachelor's degree majoring in computer science and information science.
I have 3 years of professional experience as a software engineer.
Prior to this role, I have experience working in numerous roles such as hospitality, customer service, retail and childcare.
I am a native English speaker and have an intermediate level understanding of Japanese.
