Hello! we are a couple from Scotland about to travel to Malaysia and Japan. We are both from the west coast of Scotland and we have lived in Manchester for the last three years. Malcolm works as an Archivist in heritage and libraries and Sorcha works with vulnerable young people experiencing homelessness. We have lots of skills and experiences to offer and can't wait to meet you and learn about your culture!!!

We both have experience of travelling and visiting new places, making us adaptable and excited to embrace new cultures. On this trip, we have decided to do work away as we love the idea of staying in one place for an extended period of time so we can really fully experience an area and it's culture. We believe that the best way to understand a place is through its people (and food!) and we would love to have a meaningful travel experience. We are dipping our toes into the workaway world and we can't wait to start!

We are both currently trying to learn Japanese. Both of us are working towards JLPT N5. We are still quite new to the language though so you'll need to be patient with us :)

We have a wide range of skills and interests to offer you. We both love cooking and we have experience working in hospitality. Sorcha is vegetarian and we both love cooking and eating this type of food. We both work in people focused fields and are good listeners. We both have an interest in environmental projects and we are excited to learn more about what different countries and cultures do to help protect our natural world. We care about where our food and produce comes from and would be keen to contribute towards a small farm.

We enjoy being outdoors, hiking and exploring new places so are not afraid of living in a more rural setting. However, we also enjoy the buzz of a city and the culture and diversity cities can bring.

Sorcha is a qualified yoga teacher and feels comfortable leading classes. Malcolm enjoys history and is always keen to understand why and how cultures have developed. We are also happy to contribute to cleaning and tidying.

During our travels over the last 7 months we have volunteered with several different projects. Firstly, we have volunteered on two organic farms and helped with harvesting, planting, irrigation systems, permaculture, building a mandala garden, weeding and other tasks. We were new to farm work before starting volunteering and are able to pick up new skills and implement these quickly.

Secondly, we have volunteered in several hostels and guests houses. We have supported with house keeping and cleaning to a high level, checking guests in, spending time with guests to make them feel comfortable, helping with cooking and cleaning in the kitchen etc. Sorcha has also led yoga classes and Malcolm has helped with their website.

We have a number of skills that we can offer to you:

We both enjoy cooking and we are keen and enthusiastic cooks. Sorcha is vegetarian. We both love learning about different cultures food and drink and we love to cook for our friends and family.

We have both worked in hospitality and we both feel comfortable making coffees, making drinks and providing a welcoming experience for all.

We have both worked in cleaning jobs too and we are both very tidy. We both know how to, and we are happy to, do the more difficult (and smelly) jobs.

We are both friendly and like to share our experiences with others and meet new people.

Sorcha is a qualified yoga instructor and is comfortable leading classes.

Sorcha has a driving license and is happy to put that to use.

Malcolm has worked as a volunteer coordinator and in outreach in a heritage organisation. He can organise classes and learning events.

Malcolm has interest in history and would want to learn more about different cultures and do events to showcase our culture.

Malcolm has experience looking after ducks and we have both had pets throughout our life.

We have completed workaways on farms and have a wide range of experience including gardening, weeding, planting, harvesting and looking after animals.

We're both keen to learn new skills and we'll throw ourselves into all new challenges. We are hard working and more than willing to do physical jobs. We enjoy being outdoors and work involving being outside would be good.

We both really enjoy travelling and eating our way around a new place, walking trips and hikes and going to music events and gigs.
Malcolm enjoys playing football, playing board games like Settlers of Catan, reading and listening to new music.
Sorcha enjoys morning yoga and meditation, doing outdoor activities and running.
