Description
Just a weirdo here, currently travelling the world☀️
•
Heyo! 🌿
My name is Martina, I'm an incurably curious Italian girl, born and raised in a small countryside village in northeastern Italy, called Cormòns.
In love with adventures and stories, my distinctive traits are an overly firm handshake and an outstanding talent for stumbling into oddly entertaining situations!
So…here’s the not-so-short story of how I ended up here.
I lived on my own in Venice for five years, but when I turned 23, I finished my bachelor’s degree, quit my job, gave up my apartment, packed a backpack, and never looked back.
I left with one goal in mind: not to return until the word “Life” actually meant something to me.
Before this journey, I had no idea what Workaway even was. A friend introduced me to it, and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful he did.
To me, travelling was never meant to be just endless taking and receiving, but a genuine exchange with a world that has so much to teach. I may not yet have a lifetime of knowledge or experience to offer in return, but I’m willing to give everything I do have. Time, energy, curiosity, passion (and a quite useful stubborness when it comes to learn new things).
These past months have taught me how beautiful this planet can be, despite all the tragedy and ugliness it holds.
There’s real strength in community, and I still feel like I’m only at the beginning of understanding that. I hope Workaway will keep giving me new ways to grow into this belief, connect, and contribute meaningfully wherever I go.
I’ve always been drawn to stories. Through writing, reading, meeting people, RPGs, music, and so much more, I’ve always tried to see things from different perspectives, because I think that’s what makes the human experience feel rich, vibrant, and alive.
I left home searching for something I couldn’t quite name back then. I’m still searching, but somewhere between strangers becoming friends, shared meals, deep conversations, and absurd adventures, the word “Life” has started meaning something I never could have imagined.
So here I am...still wandering, still learning, and continuing this journey, hoping that, if you read this far, our paths will cross soon!☀️

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I'm a curious and flexible person who enjoys getting involved, especially when there's something new to learn or try. Over time, I've had the chance to do a bit of everything: I’ve helped with the grape harvest, worked in a traditional Venetian mask shop (sales), taught fresh pasta workshops, worked in a craft beer pub, and done some catering. I’ve also done plenty of cleaning (honestly, in pretty much every job I’ve had), and after living alone for the past years, cooking has become a regular part of my life, and something I actually enjoy now.
I’m also into small DIY projects and handmade work: I know how to bind books, work with leather, and for years I made jewelry like earrings and bracelets using beads and threads. I like fixing or building little things around the house and getting creative.
I’ve also volunteered in schools reading to kids (from preschool to middle school). Storytelling and inventing stories is, in fact, something I’ve always loved, and while I’ve never been a babysitter, I truly enjoy being around children.
As for languages, I’m a native Italian speaker, fluent in English and French, and I know the basics of German, Arabic and Hebrew. I like learning a few words of the local language in every place I visit, it’s part of how I connect with people. I genuinely enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and I feel comfortable adjusting to new environments, whether urban or remote.
That being said, there are many things I’m still excited to learn. I’m completely in love with plants and gardening, even though I’m not very skilled at it (yet!). I’d love to learn more about organic farming and sustainable agriculture.
I absolutely adore animals; I’ve had a dog and a hamster, but I’d be thrilled to care for all kinds of animals and gain real hands-on experience.
I also want to deepen my DIY skills: carpentry, natural building, eco-projects...anything creative and hands-on sparks my curiosity!
In general, I’m very sociable and enthusiastic. My mind tends to work in a slightly chaotic way, but I’m quite the perfectionist when it comes to the outcome of what I do. I'm always happy to help where I can, and even happier when I get to learn something new along the way, so give me the space to understand a task, and I’ll give it my full attention and energy!

Feedback
I don’t know why it took me so long to write this review. I guess I still needed time to let everything sink in. And most importantly, I felt that Amit had already understood everything I experienced in Samothraki, not only through the tears I shed when I left, but throughout the ten incredible days I spent there at the end of October.… read more
