    Description

My Name is Amit, and this is the second year I am caring for this beautiful property.
The land is surrounded by mystical forests full of sparkling clean rivers and ancient plane trees.

Samothraki is plagued by erosion and deforestation from overgrazing of tens of thousands of goats and it’s wild old-growth forest is slowly dying.
I love this island and want to steward the land in ways to have a net-positive impact and use the natural abundance of life on the island to regenerate itself. So that the land will be more wild and more alive when one day I’ll leave it to the next generation.
I've been traveling most my adult life and love an active exchange of ideas, of life, of perspectives, meeting and getting to know people from all walks of life. I encourage you to bring your gifts and experiences in ways that align with this project, so that we may learn and grow from each other.

We’re delighted to include you in the magic of this beautiful land of flowing waters, whispering leaves, and ancient myths.

I am the full-time resident of the land, but there are a group of collaborators and friends that come regularly to stay and support projects on the land. The eventual vision is to expand into a residential community with neighboring properties.

I had many adventures through Woofing and Workaway around the world, everything from birthing goats, to making fine wines, to building a church and I am delighted to now be on the side of hosting volunteers, meeting new people, and hearing about their journeys. I'm curious about all varieties of forms of life and has experience with biodynamic and regenerative agriculture, natural winemaking (by profession), natural building, and permaculture.

This spring and summer we have many projects happening and we'll love your help.
We install a biogas system that uses human waste to create cooking gas and compost.
We’d love to have your support to build healthy soil, bringing soil microorganisms from undisturbed parts of the island.
We’re creating nesting boxes, for wild birds and chickens, to support bird life and to manage pests. The chicken coop will be automated based on daylight to ensure they staff safely snuggled in at night away from predators.
We’re building dry-stone retaining walls, an outdoor kitchen, and outdoor toilets using natural building techniques with the guidance and support of an expert who is coming around June to support these projects. Building a yurt to house future volunteers.
Gardening projects include building raised beds, and planting a vegetable garden. Planning and planting a food forest system.
We’re creating a mushroom log farm and outdoor beds full of lion’s mane, reishi, shiitake, and many more.
Reforestation efforts include a tree nursery, and also a larger project on the public lands of the island with systems to protect young trees from the goats.
Making wine, olive oil, jams, tinctures, and other potions from the abundance of our land.

    Hébergement

Depending on availability we have a private small wooden cabin with a queen bed, next to the river, or a big bell tent with a double bed and other mattresses. You can pitch a tent (your own or one we provide) on the land or in the forest nearby.
We’re building an outside shower and toilet that should be completed soon. In the meantime there is a shower and toilet in the main house that can be used. There’s waterfalls for dips, and an outdoor stone hot tub.

There is much to explore on Samothraki and you’ll have time to scout the hiking trails, beaches, swim in the natural pools of the waterfalls, hot springs, and explore the many acres of forests.
Just outside the property there are many beautiful spaces including waterfalls, rivers, forests, scenic views of the mountain, the sea and the vast openness of the land.
Hitchhiking is common on the island, the main road is a 15 min walk from the property, or scooters are easy to rent. We can pick you up when you arrive on the ferry.
We share the supply for two males a day which we prepare together.
