Hi, I’m Lea! I’m new to Workaway and excited to begin my first adventure!

I’m a naturally curious and open-minded person who loves learning, discovering, and contributing in meaningful ways. Whether I’m getting to know people, trying something new, or working on a community project, I enjoy being part of something that creates positive energy and connection.

I value kindness, creativity, respect, and open communication—and I try to bring those things with me wherever I go. I’ve lived in a few different places (currently Portugal!) and I’m passionate about exploring cultures, nature, languages, and ideas.

Spanish – Just starting! I can understand a bit and I’d love to learn more. 
I find languages fascinating—and a bit intimidating—so I have a lot of empathy for other learners!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

*Gardening & Permaculture*
- I’ve composted and amended soil, planted trees, saved seeds, propagated plants, cleared land, removed invasive species, farmed mason bees, set up wildlife habitat, and grown my own organic vegetables, herbs, and pollinator plants!
- During COVID, I completed a Master Gardener course and a Lazy Gardening Academy. I’m part of a permaculture group in Madeira, and I’ve volunteered in several gardens and permaculture farms.
- I’ve learned A LOT, but there is ALWAYS more to learn and room to improve! For example, I want to learn more about landscape design, fruit trees, how to create more automated systems for growing food, and how to design and install drip irrigation systems.

*DIY & Woodworking*
- I’m creative, hands-on, and love a good DIY project! Happy to help with anything from daily tasks to small repairs and crafts.
- I’ve worked on things like: building bookshelves, making raised garden beds, making a fire pit, repainting/reupholstering/restoring furniture, up-cycling, repurposing, renovating rental houses, painting, and sewing. I’ve even renovated a camper van and helped install a solar panel on the roof!
- I’m very detail-oriented, I like fixing things, I can use basic hand tools and power tools like a drill. I’ve done some minor woodworking and used power saws before, too.

*Organizing & Decorating*
- I actually really enjoying clearing clutter, getting organized, creating systems, improving processes, and making spaces work smoothly and efficiently! And I love making a space beautiful, warm, welcoming, and inviting.

*Cooking & Cleaning*
- I love food - especially fresh, healthy food! I love learning about food and learning to cook new things. I’m very clean and tidy, too.

*Tutoring, Teaching & Training*
- I love to teach and share knowledge and information in ways that are meaningful, relevant, and easier to understand. I’ve done this formally (as a Corporate Trainer) and informally.
- As a lifelong learner myself, I love being around people who love to learn.

*House Sitting and Pet Sitting*
- I am a regular house and pet sitter, and I’m happy to take great care of your pets, plants, and home while you’re away!

*Childcare*
- I been a kids’ camp counselor, and I have informal experience tutoring, mentoring, and leading kids’ activities. I love children, and I love being an aunt!

*Hospitality*
- I’ve worked as a server in restaurants and even on a cruise ship in Hawaii! For me, how much I enjoy this work all depends on the working environment.

*Writing & Communication*
- I’m a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing. I’ve done everything from marketing and content writing, to professional documentation, to creative writing.

*Business Analysis & Project Management*
- I’ve worked as a project manager, and I’m a certified Business Analyst. I’ve worked in many types of environments, bringing structure, clarity, and strategic thinking to complex projects.

*Safety-Minded*
- I”m also certified in STCW safety training for working at sea, including fire safety, first aid, crowd management, survival techniques, and general onboard safety/responsibility.

*And More!*
- I have a positive attitude and a good sense of humor. I like learning. I like variety. I like to be strategic, but most importantly, I want to *contribute meaningfully.*
- And beyond any particular skillset—I’m thoughtful, adaptable, respectful, and happy to help however I can!

I’m a fast learner with a positive mindset. I’m trustworthy, organized, conscientious, and detail-oriented. I’m communicative, self-reliant, and proactive.

I’m also a very curious person. I studied psychology and family science at university, and I really value personal growth, self-awareness, empathy, emotional intelligence, and relationship skills.

I LOVE having interesting, philosophical, mind-expanding conversations.

I love nature, outdoors, yoga (and acroyoga!!), creativity, plants and nature, children, books, music, travel and exploration, food and cooking, psychology and relationships.

I’m flexible and understanding, but a few things are very important to me:

* Mutual respect

I care about how people treat each other. I need environments where everyone feels safe, seen, valued, and respected. And better yet, where everyone is there to learn, grow, help each other, and have fun!
