I'm a solo traveller currently volunteering in Thailand. I can contribute skills in lots of areas including painting, cooking, cleaning, helping people to practice English and caring for people and I love working with animals, especially cats. Others would describe me as kind, caring, creative and easy going.

I will never forget my time with Nishant he is so much fun to be with he has so much energy he never stops.. always improving things at the school or organising for upcoming festivals etc he's always doing something. A love for cats and a need for a new adventure lead to me joining the team here for a month in January. I couldn’t have picked a better place to start my journey as a solo traveller and workaway volunteer. I have a list as long as my arm of things that are great about the Café but I have whittled it down to just 5 things that I think made my trip… read more the amazing experience that it was.

1. Rach and Vin – right from the initial exchange of messages Rach and Vin made me feel welcome. They are so dedicated and did such a brilliant job of managing the café during my visit. The get stuck in and make everyone feel part of a team.

2. Working with Thao – everyone will know how hard I found it to say goodbye to Thao! We worked together in the kitchen and hit it off straight away. Thao is the sweetest, kind soul. Thao made my time there, not only in the café where we shared many a laugh over how long to boil eggs for, or the correct pronunciation of sponge but outside of the café when we became great friends. Thao is an amazing person – and a fantastic yoga teacher.

3. Cats, Cats, Cats and more Cats. Wow, there are a lot of cats at the Café. All with their own unique quirks and personalities, it was a great pleasure for me to spend any down time watching and relaxing with all the cats at the café. Not to mention going back to look after Chilli and Big Foot the two kittens that were staying at the house while I was there.

4. Everyone that I met through working here was friendly and open. I met some wonderful, interesting people. Hoi An is not short of restaurants and its a lovely, relaxing environment for sharing food and socialising in the evening.

5. ME time – having left behind hectic London life, the pace and culture in Hoi An was just what I needed. Everything was easily accessible on foot or bike and I loved wandering around markets and temples or sight seeing on my rented bike.

Finally, THANK YOU so much to Emma and Phong for founding such a wonderful place. It was truly inspiring to see what a difference you have made to the lives of the cats that the Café take in. It was just brilliant to see cats go from looking very unwell on arrival to becoming happier and healthier as each day went by. For this I am truly inspired by what you do and grateful that I could be part of it. So, thank you again and I hope to visit sometime in the future.
