Description
Hi! I’m Fanny, I grew up in a little village near Paris and I just graduated in sociology and philosophy. When I was studying in Paris, I was working with mentally disabled people as organizer of holidays camps, and I was a volunteer in a day-care center for refugees, where I gave English and French classes.

I moved to Brazil in June 2022 and stayed there for 8 months (4 months travelling and volunteering & 4 months living in a favela in Rio while studying my degrees online and enjoying samba). I fell in love with Brazil and its inhabitants, I miss it everyday.

Then, since I wanted to discover Italy for a long time, I did some Workaways in the country during summer 2023, learnt Italian, and I found a job in Rome for 4 months from September to December 2023, working in an association which takes in migrants.

I now (January 2024) came back to France, and plan to go to Brazil again from the beginning of February until the end of April!

I love the sea (my itineraries are always along the coast as much as possible) and I feel a need to explore places I’ve never been, to see as much as possible (being aware of my carbon imprint while travelling) so that I may always keep my mind open :)

I am always motivated to improve my Portuguese, and I would like to learn Arabic. I can teach French (my mother tongue), as well as English (I've already been teaching both languages for one year at a day-care center for refugee people in Paris) and Italian (which I taught to migrants when I was working in Rome).

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I don’t have any specific skills but I’m very curious and motivated for all types of works. I can adapt to situations.

I’ve already been a Workawayer (not all the feedbacks are appearing on this profile because I had a duo profile with a friend) : in Spain to take care of animals (donkeys, chickens, dogs) as well as working in a youth hostel ; I also travelled with Workaway in Brazil and volunteered in a “pousada”, as well as building houses with traditional and sustainable techniques (“pao a pique”, which is with mud and bamboo), also taking care of a child and giving English lessons ; in France, in a schamanic community ; but also in Italy, as a shepherdess in the mountains, I milked goats, sold the cheese we made on the market, got up early to prepare the fire and bake bread.

I’m particularly interested in discovering new lifestyles in order to protect our planet by reducing waste, reusing, recycling, conserving water and, most of all, by educating. I’d particularly like to learn more about permaculture, agroforestry, alternative medicines, cooking, ceramics, bio construction.

I also love making pictures, especially using analog cameras :)

I spent two unforgettable weeks with Florent and Yuka (his dog) in their little paradise: located on top of the mountains, the landscape is magical from sunrise to sunset. The first week's work consisted of laying a wooden floor, and Florent was always open to suggestions: it was very nice to be able to really invest in his project by thinking and moving forward together rather than having to do pre-defined tasks. There was a perfect balance between good organization and freedom to rearrange the program. The second week, we built an extension to the house (a hallway and a bathroom) using a sustainable, inexpensive and above all environmentally friendly technique called “pao a pique”, which consists of making walls out of bamboo (from the garden!) and filling them with soil (again from the garden). It was very gratifying to see the walls grow up so quickly, I can't wait to see what the house will look like in a few months, with the help of the future volunteers. Florent is extremely caring, always making sure that the work interests me and doesn't tire me too much, he is flexible, understanding and intelligent, all qualities that also ensure great conversations.
In my free time, Florent would sometimes lend me his bike or car to go into town in the afternoon. Sao Luiz do Paraitinga is a small town that I was immediately attached to, with its “brechos” (thrift shops), its handicraft shops and its very welcoming inhabitants.
A few other good memories in a list because I can't condense everything in one comment as I only got positive things out of this experience: swimming in the river right next to the house, caipirinhas (made with lemons from the garden) around the fire, weekend in Ubatuba (Florent took me there by car for free), fruit and vegetable market in Sao Luiz.

J’ai passé deux semaines inoubliables chez Florent et Yuka (son chien), dans leur petit coin de paradis. Situé au sommet des montagnes, le paysage est magique du matin jusqu’au soir. Je ne pouvais pas être mieux accueillie : je dormais dans une tente spacieuse, dans un matelas double avec plusieurs couvertures. Nous préparions ensemble les repas, toujours très copieux, simples mais délicieux.
La première semaine, le travail consistait à poser un plancher, et Florent était toujours ouvert aux propositions : c’était très agréable de pouvoir s’investir réellement dans son projet en réfléchissant et en avançant ensemble plutôt que de devoir effectuer des tâches prédéterminées. Il y avait un parfait équilibre entre une bonne organisation et une liberté de réagencer le programme. La deuxième semaine, nous avons construit une extension de la maison (qui correspond à un couloir et une salle de bain) en utilisant la technique « pao a pique », qui est durable, peu coûteuse et surtout écolo, consistant à faire des murs en bambou (du jardin !) que l’on remplit de terre (toujours du jardin). C’était très gratifiant de voir s’élever les murs si rapidement, j’ai hâte de voir à quoi la maison ressemblera dans quelques mois, avec l’aide des futurs volontaires. Florent est extrêmement bienveillant, toujours attentif à ce que le travail m’intéresse et ne me fatigue pas trop, il est flexible, compréhensif et intelligent, autant de qualités qui assurent également d’avoir de bonnes conversations.
Pendant mon temps libre, Florent m’a parfois prêté son vélo ou sa voiture pour aller en ville l’après-midi. Sao Luiz do Paraitinga est une petite ville à laquelle j’ai tout de suite été attachée, avec ses « brechos » (friperies), ses magasins d’artisanat et ses habitants très accueillants.
Quelques autres bons souvenirs en vrac car je ne pourrais tout condenser en un seul commentaire tant je ne retire que du positif de cette expérience : baignades dans la rivière juste à côté de la maison, caïpirinhas (avec citrons du jardin) autour du feu, week-end à Ubatuba (Florent m’y a emmené en voiture gratuitement), marché de fruits et légumes de Sao Luiz.
