    Description

We are Ditte and Sebastien. We are living on the Spanish Mediterranean coast since November 2016 with our daughters.

Our house sits on 1 hectare of land about 10 km away from the big sea resort Benidorm but enjoys a lot of tranquility and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. It is easily accessible from Alicante airport. The area has got some great hiking and rock climbing routes.

The land is terraced and is a former lemon plantation which hasn't been much cared for in the past. Since we moved here I (Sebastien) have been trying to make it as diverse and wild as possible in terms of plants and trees and to promote wildlife by applying Permaculture principles and keeping away from machines and chemicals. We are also trying to reduce our environmental impact and energy consumption.

The house is rustique but spacious and has all the modern facilities (minus TV and dishwasher). It is also a work in progress and we have a lot of projects to improve it.

TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT: For people wanting to learn/practice Spanish, be aware that we don't speak much Spanish at home. English and French are our usual day-to-day preferred languages.

We are a French Danish couple. We speak English, Danish, French, Spanish and the local Valencian dialect but mostly French and English at home. I (Sebastien) did a permaculture design course in Portugal in 2016 that has been instrumental in that life change from urban to rural life we are currently undertaking. I hope I can teach you a few things and I am hoping to get some good ideas from you. It's your chance to leave your mark on this piece of land!

This part of the Valencian community is called the Marina Baixa. It is very touristic but combines some beautiful mountains areas, scenic rural villages, great beaches and easy accessibility from Alicante airport.

We are looking for driven and creative people to come and help us.

Someone with practical grafting knowledge or brick laying skills would be very useful.

We could also use some help with: ..
    - prune trees
    - pick fruits
    - working on the insulation of the house
    - sowing seeds and plant trees
    - maintaining the compost piles
    - adding some art to this place (if you're of the creative type!)
    - cooking (if you are so inclined)

And from our ever growing future projects list:
    - fruit dryer
    - compost toilet
    - masonry planters
    - bird/bat houses
    - Fountain

Workawayers will have their own room and bathroom and will otherwise share the rest of the house. We can accommodate up to two workawayers if they are friends traveling together or a couple that don't mind sharing a small room. Meals will be taken with us. We eat mostly vegetarian food although we do cook fish or seafood sometimes.

In exchange for food and accommodation, we would expect the workawayers to help in the house/garden 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week preferably mornings while the kids are at school.

We'll expect the workaways to help in the kitchen, participate in the maintenance of the house and keep their room and bathroom reasonably clean and tidy.

The nearest village is 2km away and we can lend bikes. Hiking routes are available from the house or close-by. Rock climbing is big here and there are a lot of really good crags around. I climb regularly and have the gear for sports climbing.

To go further (beach, city), there is a regular bus line from the village and we also drive there regularly.

Otherwise, the place is ideal for sitting out in the sun or in the shade of a fig tree to read!

We would strongly prefer nonsmoking workawayers.
