Laia was a delightful guest in my cottage. A new member of the family she was immediately adopted by Alan the dog and Kitty the cat. So helpful around the yard and the house, Laia made a huge impact in all the areas I had neglected, this was a great load off of my back and lifted the energy of my home. We had great meals and walks and talks to complement all the work getting done. Thank you Laia for your time and energy. It was very refreshing and delightful. Best wishes on the rest of your journey. I do hope we meet again, maybe in Catalonia.

It was fun to host Alice. She is open minded, open hearted, helpfull in many ways and a good listener. She is also probably a good sewer , but at the time I didn’t give her my sewingmachine to use… sorry for that, too many precious machines died on me lately by abuse of other helpers. so she was handsewing some stuff that needed a fix, She helped also with weeding, cleaning, covering fruits from birds and more. Overall it was great to host Alice, I hope ou will enjoy your time in the Netherlands. Till next time!

I spent 5 days at the farm with Peter and another volunteer. It owns an amazing location and offers a great variety of projects to be done. I joined for creative and stock tasks, however, more manual work was requested on site — clearing and organising common spaces, stables deep clean, gathering and cutting grass and tree branches. Even though the farm has equipment available for cutting grass, we were asked to perform it manually; no technician was on site and the host hadn’t prepared it for the work. The sanitary conditions were a serious concern. There was no reliable access to clean drinking water — the only option available were bottles with visible mould, which we were expected to use. Access to showers was also limited. Food provided was minimal, so you might like to get more ingredients in the town supermarket. About the stock task, unfortunately, four goats and their young died shortly before my stay due to illness caused by the barn not having been cleaned properly for months — the animals had been living in unsanitary conditions. Even though three of us tried to clean it, the scale of the situation required outside help from two village workers to address the worst of it. It also became clear that the place lacks a manager to support volunteers with structured instructions. We had to redo tasks and were denied proper equipment. The host showed little interest in our suggestions on organising the work, though creative ideas were met with enthusiasm. On the creative side, I really enjoyed making decorations for the campfire — it was one of the highlights of my stay. I also enjoyed the African night the host arranged for us; there is a beautiful collection of spiritual masks and sculptures in the main house and theatre, as well as a lot of thoughtfully produced media on the topic. I also want to note one incident I witnessed directly. After a five-hour work shift on a very hot day, the host insisted on having an immediate conversation with the other volunteer. When she said she was unwell and needed a moment, his response was dismissive — he talked over her and asked her to be quiet. I was present and observed this exchange. After noticing this dynamic, I made a personal decision to focus on content creation and the animal and creative sides of the work — and within that scope, my experience was good. This place would greatly benefit from volunteers who are ready for physical, hands-on work — and from a host approach that supports open communication. With the right conditions, there is real potential to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere this unique location has to offer! I’m very grateful for this experience and wish all the best! 🙌💖

Lisa and Anton stayed with us for a week. During that short time they were a fantastic help. They harvested rhubarb and weeded very many square meters of hardy weeds in our garden. They were also so very kind to come with Mark on a trip to transport some heavy furniture one evening. Lisa and Anton were always cheerful and positive and it was a joy to have them around. They were also very patient with my bad German when playing board games. We hope they come back!

Gesa was a pleasure, she welcomed us into her home did everything to make us feel comfortable. Making sure we had enough blankets, choosing a room we preferred and making room for a computer work space. We were free to all items in the fridge and could cook freely. We enjoyed preparing her garden for the season, painting the windows frames and an exterior bench. Maya is the cutest and great off leash on a walk. However she doesn't like being in the back seat of the car. She was great company in the garden. Gesa helped us mail item back home and our conversations were lovely each evening when she returned from work. We were glad to learn some cooking tricks, and finally get to try German Doner. Dresden is a great city and 10 was not enough. We left Dresden for China, so our feedback is a bit delayed. But we will keep in contact with Gesa, her generosity and kindness made our workaway even more memorable. We will have to get time for hiking the next time.

I couldn't be more grateful to Bjarni. He is an incredibly generous person and made this experience unforgettable. His love of books and Icelandic culture is inspiring, his knowledge is remarkable, and above all, he was always kind, helpful, and did everything he could to make us feel at home. Personally, I was deeply touched by this experience, and I haven't been quite the same since. It was a meaningful and transformative time for me. The other Workawayers were wonderful as well, and sharing this journey with them made it even more special. Takk fyrir Bjarni.

Jeanne came from France, the backpack was almost the same size and turned out to contain many qualifications: She is open and curious, a yes person who tackles tasks with positive energy. She paints doors, cleans, makes jam and French omelets. During breaks, at meals and on excursions we have had many interesting conversations, and she also has a good head. After 3 weeks we sent Jeanne on by ferry north from Hirtshals. Give her a warm welcome.

I really enjoyed my 6 days stay with Hiro. He is a very communicative person and always happy to share suggestions on how to explore and appreciate the city. I also had the chance to taste and watch the preparation of his plum wine, which was delicious. We spent some fun time together, and thanks to Hiro I was able to discover different neighborhoods of Tokyo and learn more about Japanese culture. The other roommates were also very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Regarding the work, the schedule is very flexible. Hiro is open to discussing and organizing the tasks that need to be completed during your stay, but after that everyone is free to manage their days independently. There are no fixed working hours. During my stay, I helped with cleaning parts of the bathroom and kitchen and painted a section of the mural. There are still a few empty spots left, so you can find your own space to contribute. I slept in a tent inside the house, located on the landing outside the three housemates' rooms. There was not much space to store personal belongings, and it is true that the house can be a bit dusty, a certain level of adaptability is needed. However, for a short stay, and considering the opportunity to live with local people and spend quality time together, I would still describe the experience as a positive one. Thank you, Hiro, for your hospitality and for sharing a part of your life and culture with me 🤗

Roos and Alwin stayed with me at the ranch for a week, and honestly… they were amazing. From the very first day, they blended in effortlessly and helped wherever they could, always with a calm, positive and respectful attitude. They supported me with a wide range of tasks: painting and building projects, cleaning up after the horses, weeding and general land maintenance, cleaning and organising and jumping in wherever help was needed. What I appreciated most is that they don’t wait to be told what to do — they see what needs to be done and simply do it. They work independently just as well as together, and everything they touch is done with care and attention. Roos brings a very gentle, thoughtful and warm energy, combined with a strong work ethic. Alwin is calm, reliable and practical, and together they form a really balanced, grounded team. Communication was easy, clear and open, and having them around felt light, respectful and harmonious. On top of all that, they are just genuinely lovely people to have around: kind, trustworthy, considerate and easy-going. I felt completely comfortable leaving things in their hands. I truly loved having them here and would welcome them back anytime without hesitation. Any host would be lucky to have Roos and Alwin! I can recommend them 100% from the heart.

Annamaria and Feri are a super kind and well educated couple. I learned a lot from them about horses and overall animal care. They invited me to a couple of local parties. I really appreciated their friendly disposition. I arrived during a nasty heat wave and was in poor condition, so I unfortunately needed to cut the visit short. If you want to learn about horses, animal welfare and Hungarian culture, I would recommend a stay at their farm!

Max is a very confident, talented young man interested in and good at loads of different things. With our Workawayers, it’s not just their willingness and quality of work that matters but also their contribution socially round the supper table. Max delivers on all counts – bright, knowledgeable, likes reading, and as a top-level tennis player, in top notch physical shape. On the work front, he was a dab hand with his phone, looking up all sorts of things including putting a bed together without having the instructions and opening a swimming pool. He patiently used our Kircher, cleaning masses of winter dirt off the stone paving surrounding the pool and the courtyard. He was up ladders hacking back vines from the gutters, He heaped logs on the wood pile, and cut back hedges, brambles and dead branches, contributing to two huge bonfires. He was very appreciative of our cooking – talking a lot about food and drink! He’s very much the kind of guy who will go places. We wish him a great future. He’s very welcome to come back anytime.
