  Description

  We are a country family home in Tappen which is near the Shuswap Lake. I am a retired 69 yr old health care provider that now looks after my 89 yr old mom, her home, yard and gardens. I have 5 siblings in the area so there is often someone dropping by or who we are off to visit.
  
  My mom is a Catholic so I usually take her to church on Sunday and I am Spiritual but not Religious. I'm passionate about alternative health practices, energy work, dowsing, essential oils and alternative truth news. I like to play pickleball when I can.
  
  I belong to a local rock and gem club and have been collecting rocks and crystals for many years, both for their beauty and healing properties. I love attending music events of which there are many over the summer. Towards the end of July we have a big Roots and Blues music festival in Salmon Arm that always has fabulous musicians and is lots of fun.
  
  We are close to the big and beautiful Shuswap Lake and we are happy to take workawayers along when doing outings to the beach, music nights, farm markets, shopping, touring etc.
  We are a 12 minute drive from Salmon Arm where there are movie theaters, shops, cafes, art gallery, museum and musical presentations.
  The closest airports are Kelowna or Kamloops and there are buses (E-Bus or Ryder) to Salmon Arm from the airports. Some people have flown into Vancouver and taken bus from there.
  We have one spare bedroom available with a queen bed so would just suit a single or maybe a couple.
  
  We are in the country and it's peaceful and quiet here. If you are happy away from noise and hustle and bustle you would love it here. I do sometimes like to play music when working in the garden.
  I have a bicycle that can be utilized.
  .
  Because of my allergies and for the environment we only use natural cleaning and hygiene products. There are very few chemical products that I can tolerate so no strong scented soaps, shampoos or deodorants please. We provide a hair and body wash if people want to use it.
  
  The hummingbirds are busy dashing back and forth and the chickadees are building their nests in the birdhouses. The sun is shining, the bees are buzzing and it is a glorious day here in Tappen! It is now time to get planting!
  
  Sept 9th: It has been a lovely summer and we are busy drying herbs and canning tomatoes and salsa. There is much clean up to do before winter. Lately we are doing some painting and tree and shrub trimming as well.

  We love learning about other cultures and have enjoyed having people here from France, Japan and Mexico as well as Canadians. We are happy to share all family events together.

  Aide

  As I was waiting for a knee replacement many jobs were put on hold and I've had a difficult time catching up. So if you like variety you might enjoy here.
  Besides the large organic vegetable garden there are several flower gardens to tend. I've started a lot of bedding plants so soon they will need planting along with the seeds. Then comes the watering and weeding.
  There is a bit of painting to do outdoors, some yard cleanup, there is always power-washing, a few repairs and always something to upkeep the house and yard.
  
  Not being an early morning person myself, I don't expect anyone to be at it too early. Sometimes we could work longer or shorter days depending on what needs to be done but I would never expect anyone to work more than 4 hours. Some days it will be less if we need to go to town for supplies or off to music event. The vegetable garden has sprinklers on timers which will go early mornings but there will be plenty of other watering to be done.
  
  There will soon be strawberries, raspberries and black currents to pick and preserve. Later there will be veggies and tomatoes to pick and preserve. There will be lots of fresh organic food to harvest and eat.
  
  Depending on your interests we can work together or you can paint while I garden or vice versa.
  If you would rather clean windows and wash walls that can be done too. Or maybe you like to cook some meals or play crib with mom.
  I am pretty flexible at assigning chores but sometimes something needs doing more urgently than others.
  
  If you are mechanically inclined or can help with small diy that would be a bonus for us. My little rototiller can be temperamental and I would like to build some good trellis. The roto is getting a new carburetor this weekend though so that may improve it's personality.
  
  Update: It's been a very busy summer and have had some wonderful Workawayer helpers. We are now busy making salsa and drying herbs and will soon clean up the gardens for winter. There are still the potatoes to dig and garlic to plant.
  After having the windows open all summer we have begun a fall cleaning in the house. We are trying to clear some clutter and hold a yard sale this fall.
  If and when the snow comes there will be a bit of snow clearing.
  Projects for the winter include cleaning out the freezers, photo album labeling, sorting record collection, making jam with frozen berries and preparing warm, hearty soups and meals.
  There are always puzzles and card games with mom and discussing her books and photo albums.

  I'm always interested in improving the little French that I know. We have cousins in France and would like to communicate better when we meet in person.

  Hébergement

  We have one bedroom with a queen bed, a dresser and some closet space. Our Internet is hardwired in the house and is in the bedroom. Wi-Fi can be turned on when essential but not overnight. Besides tv in the living-room there is a sitting area with a tv upstairs near the bedroom. The tv has full cable, netflix and prime.
  We provide good meals and some extras but if you are a snack junkie or like wine with your dinner you would need to purchase some of those.
  Depending on abilities we usually get our own breakfasts and some lunches. I always cook dinner unless you enjoy cooking some meals too.

  Internet is hardwired into bedrooms but wifi can be turned on when necessary. Wifi must be turned off during sleep hours though.
