Hoping for help prior to 15th of June for a week or two or??
Salmon Arm sits on the edge of Shuswap Lake, surrounded by mountains, with endless hiking and biking trails. We are in the country yet a 5 min drive from town, or 40 min. walk. We are on the city bus route as well or travel into the area by E-bus from Vancouver or Calgary
There are lovely walking trails all the way into town, next to Little Mountain Park with beautiful forested trails and a viewpoint where you can see all of Salmon Arm and the vastness of Shuswap Lake. We are not far from the gym, Recreation Centre with pool, hot tub and sauna, and golf courses.
Salmon Arm is within a 15 – 25 min drive to approx. 6 other small communities to explore with beaches, rivers, waterfalls, ski and hiking trails. Pretty central here.
Salmon Arm is half way between Vancouver and Calgary and a little more than an hour from Kamloops and Kelowna.
Our ideal helpers will be self-motivated, independent workers.
If you prefer to help 5 days with 2 days off, great. Or, if you prefer work longer hours for 2-3 days and take an additional day off per week.
All to be discussed prior to arrival. Let me know your preference and we shall see if it is a fit!!
We are on the local bus route, you can easily walk to town even though we are quite rural, and .... If you have your own vehicle, there are many surrounding areas for you to explore,
Your room is located on the lower-ground-level of the house, own private entrance, and driveway. (we are upstairs). There is a complete self-contained suite downstair so you will have access to your own full kitchen to prepare your meals also a living room, bathroom, and dining room. If you like quiet time, to be close to nature, this is the spot. There are 2.5 bedrooms downstairs and 2 bathrooms so there may be others staying here at the same time.
Lots of parking space if you are travelling in a van, camper or motorhome.
Just let us know about all the skills you have and enjoy and I am sure we can find somewhere to put you to work.
If you don't mind, answering the questions below will help us to learn a little about you, and to assist us in planning your experience here with preferred activities, and tasks. The more we know about you, the better we can customize your experiences here both work and play.
What are your hobbies?
What work do you LOVE to do and what types of work do you not love as much??
Are you comfortable working and being alone or do you prefer others around?
In what areas do you feel experienced and confident doing independently?
What projects have you accomplished on your own with respect to building and tools you have experience with?
How would you like to spend your days off?
Do you have a car or vehicle?
Do you smoke?
Do you prefer to do early mornings, or later in the afternoon till evening?
What would you like to learn about?
Are you comfortable working in all weather conditions? (no worries, lots of indoor jobs too)
Is this your first Workaway experience?
Are you ok with making your own meals?
We provide enough basic foods but if you prefer to do more of your own personal grocery shopping for less hours, that can be arranged, but before you come please. Nowadays, we are finding many with specialized diets so this can work well.
Some helpers come to learn about gardening and homesteading, some helpers come for a free place to stay while exploring, working online, or doing school, some helpers come to share their skills and expertise, some come to improve their language skills, some come to 'get some alone time' others come to 'socialize' with hosts.
We are curious as to where your interests/desires lie, as we want your stay to be most enjoyable.

We eat primarily from what we grow, so we are always canning, drying, pickling, and fermenting.
If you enjoy quiet time on your own, this will be ideal. Many venture out to meet others at social events, churches, hiking groups, etc. Lots of opportunity to get out and mingle with the locals. Lots of music, coffee houses, etc.

We are not a business- We have a vegetable garden. Approximate size 1,000 sq ft. We do not have farm animals. We have never sold any produce.
We are exchanging a private room, bath, and food for work each day. Helpers are expected to keep their kitchen, room and bathroom clean at all times - cleaning your space, is on your own time - simply being respectful, clean and tidy is very much appreciated. Most helpers are great with this - others need some reminding.
