Description
We started off as a self sufficient farm and then started building Belize's first Earthship.......and we're taking it from there! My kids have moved away but visit as often as possible. The kids now are my 4 dogs, lots of cats, chickens, ducks etc!! I have just started a new project, building temples out of trash! I do accept families, but due to construction dangers and glass everywhere ( I mainly build from bottles) , would not feel comfortable hosting toddlers and very young children.

We have become the premier recyclers in the country, so if you really want to learn how you can make a difference i a comuntiy by using up trash / rubbish and turning it into beauty then come and learn with us!

Aide
We are always trying to find new ways to improve our off grid home! We are bound to have a new project on the go building with both plastic and glass bottles and that needs help! However we also need other things doing so let us know if there is anything you are particularly good at, carpentry, gardening, art... whatever, just let us know! We just want people who are dynamic and interested in helping the wonderful jungle environment we are living in.

We have cabanas of different sizes, and a bathroom block. All meals are provided, we eat everything but are more than happy to host vegans and vegetarians.

We live close to the beautiful Village of San Pedro Columbia, famous for its cacao farms and amazing river. We are surrounded by nature and Mayan ruins...there are daily buses to and from PG, but many local places to see and visit! We are off grid so have a farmers lifestyle of early awake early to bed… if you do want to experience nightlife then you will have to stay away for the night as buses are in the daytime only!

During the week I was at Chaos Oasis I helped prepare for the imminent arrival of important visitors. With Alisa, two other WorkAwayers, and a group re-roofing a bungalow, we became a team. My stay here was amazing! It was my first workaday experience and I highly recommend staying with the family on their amazing farm. Im very interested in sustainability and their eco project is like no other, I learnt a lot throughout my week there and hope to go back again!

Kathy is fab! She is frightened of spiders etc but she handled life in the jungle wonderfully and was always willing to help with anything and is the ONLY volunteer we have had who constantly made sure my kitchen was immaculate...which was like having a washing up angel around!!!!!

Usually with a couple you get one dud (!) and a good worker, however, Sara and Stephen were a great exception! They work really well together and their skills complement each other. Great to have them around as they are interested in their environment and what they can do to help and improve where they are staying. Thoroughly recommend them!

Seriously she went out of her way to help with things that needed doing and fitted straight in. The kids loved her, she was great with everyone and could not have managed doing what we were doing at the time with out her ( organizing 1 Christmas fair at a school and a kids's play at another...)

I stayed with this family for just over a week. They welcomed me into their beautiful home and taught me a lot about their amazing Earthship. The lessons I learnt, I will definitely be able to take on and use on my own land some day!

I spent almost two weeks with the family in May and loved it! The family are friendly and welcoming and the work is varied and interesting. Though located in a remote little village, there is plenty to do and keep busy with. The accommodation and food were great, and I would definitely return. We have had dozens of volunteers through our Earthship project and Tommy is , without doubt , one of the best and most gifted . Do not hesitate to grab him if you can as he is a jack of all trades and fun to have around . He was great with my kids and willing to get stuck into anything . We miss him already !!!!!!!!!!!!
