The borders are open and we keep welcoming volunteers.
Hello, I'm Esther. I run a primary school in Masindi (North West of Kampala).
Having become a widow at an early age and with my children so young, I realized the problems that so many single mothers go through to educate their children and support their families. As a professional teacher, I was inspired by these challenges to start a primary school to support orphans and vulnerable children from rural Uganda to attain a quality and affordable education no matter their economic background.
The school is currently home to 260 children ages 3 to 13 and the number is growing very fast. We currently need volunteers to support the teaching staff and pass on valuable life skills to the learners through career-building sessions. The volunteers will also act as role models and help our learners stay in school longer by changing the community attitude towards education.
Volunteering with us is a unique opportunity to combine adventure and volunteering for a worthwhile cause. It is a rare opportunity to gain insight into the Ugandan lifestyle and experience a completely different culture and way of life. We are looking for volunteers with a wide variety of skills: from assistance at the school, including teaching and gardening, to more technical support, such as fundraising and project management.
We look forward to working with you!

Uganda is the pearl of Africa with a rich and interesting culture. Volunteers will experience first-hand the Ugandan way of life and get the chance to really make a difference. They can also learn the Luganda and other local languages spoken here. You will also learn to peel matooke (bananas), a local delicacy here and learn to cook a wide range of Ugandan dishes.
The school is located in Masindi, home to Murchison falls, National Park. Tourists are charged to get access, but the experience is worth it. You get to see the big five in their natural habitat and experience the beautiful sunrise at the falls.
We mostly work with children ages 3 to 13 years (primary school). We are looking for volunteers to help with things like:
Playing with the children
Project Management/ Administration
We work with all kinds of people with different levels of experience. Professionals are welcome, but you don’t have to be a professional to help us make a difference.
You can create your own classroom with different themes or topics, for example, mentorship and career guidance, cooking, geography, sports, creative arts, simple and fun gardening and the like.
You can come here like a teacher or simply help with with the administrative work and other school projects.
If you would like to bring us some gifts, here is our wish list (the materials could be new or used):
- English books, learning materials
- Pens, pencils, rubbers, world-map, school bags etc
- Electronics (keyboard, old laptops etc
- Board games, toys, games, balls etc
- And anything else you want to bring for the children

We provide shared rooms for individuals and can arrange for a private room for couples. We also provide a mosquito net for each bed. We don't have a modern bathroom but volunteers can shower with a bucket, just as we do :) We use a pit latrine so be ready for a different kind of experience.
We provide local food for volunteers and are happy to cater to vegans and vegetarians so please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
We have hot tea all day long:)
No, we do not plan to charge any fees or payments.
Most of our volunteers use the tourist visa, that should be enough for your stay with us so you do not need a work permit or the like.
Uganda is mostly sunny throughout the year but we do have some rainy seasons and it gets cold sometimes. We advise you to bring suitable clothing accordingly.
WHAT TO BRING
Please bring whatever you feel is necessary but our visitors often have things like:
Malaria tablets (please consult your doctor before departure)
A sun hat
Comfortable shoes you can work in
Buses for Masindi leave Kampala throughout the day. But we will arrange for you to travel with a member of staff upon arrival here.
The bus makes regular food and toilet stops. It's helpful to have small denominations of shillings so you can buy things to eat and drink at stops, or when sellers come to the window with snacks.
